  1. I would love to see people turning on the TV during Jour de Fete, saying "what the heck is this?", unable to look away, and then sitting there for the next 5 and a half hours, mesmerized by Tati....
  2. I finally found a decent thread! Awesome. Frank- *SMACK* I actually like The Sin of Harold Diddlebock, but I haven't seen it for years. They used to show a really bad print of it in Chicago on channel 32 when I was a kid. It certainly isn't up to the level of some of the great PS movies, but I'm noticing that people have very subjective views about his movies anyway. So what I'm saying is, go and watch it. Now, Let's see. I don't like Unfaithfully Yours and Hail the Conquering Hero. (except for Bracken's speech insisting he is no hero, that's brilliant). I love Miracle the best (it makes me cry, it's so good), then Palm Beach Story, then Sullivan (which also makes me cry). I've never seen The BBfromBB or Christmas in July. I always fall asleep duringThe Great McGinty. The Lady Eve is in a class by itself. Meaning I love it. It's interesting, because each of us seems to have favorites, and others that we do not like at all. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to who will like a particular Sturges film, though I suspect that men will like Unfaithfully Yours better than women, and women will like Palm Beach Story better than men. Princess Centimillia: "You will care for me, though. I grow on people. Like moss."
  3. That's exactly what it is! And they did do a good job.... It is just one of those things that I feel ill thinking about how much money we spent on it-and it sits on a bookshelf.
  4. Thanks, Ro! on the *P2K* subject- I talk a lot, don't I? I am shocked, shocked to find that I have written that much.... Ro- that ET incident completely blew my mind, because up until then she had never shown any strong emotions at movies. I think during Winn Dixie she was worried about whether the dog would be OK, but no tears. And before that she only cried when she was tired. I was kind of relieved when she did cry, because I thought maybe she had no empathy, and it's an important trait. I had visions of Patty McCormack floating through my mind again! But when it actually happened, it was heart-wrenching. Especially since I was the instigator: "Oooh. Watch this movie, it's really cool...." My daughter has a Fur Real kitty, and they are ok, but I find she doesn't play with it as much as regular stuffed animals. It is good for about a month or so. I think we bought it as a guilt offering. Alice wants a cat even more than a turtle, but she had settled on a turtle because we couldn't have cats. Of course, I felt guilty this summer because we didn't have a pool, too. or a Barbie jeep....Guilt guilt guilt......
  5. Dorothy Sebastian has an odd face - in downward angles, or viewed from the the left side, her nose is cute and button like. In views from the right side, her nose is long and angular, like in the mystery picture. I still think it is Anita, Joan and Dorothy.
  6. Graham Jarvis from the Mary Hartman show Congressman Henry Waxman
  7. I agree. Alicia got rooked! She is talented and I think she has had a tough time of it since Clueless. I hadn't realized it, but you're right, I haven't seen Bridget Fonda for a while.... I wonder what happened? Well I must go, I have been on here all day, and I should go do dishes or something.... I have to put away the junk that gets strewn all over the house over the weekend... maybe make some pickles. See ya!
  8. I'm a bit lucky in that regard, I generally don't have to read subtitles if a movie is in Spanish, French or Italian. But if it's in German, Swedish, Russian or Japanese, well, that's another story. You worked hard in school, didn't you? I can barely understand French anymore, and I took 5 years of it in high school! I would love to learn more languages. The Ken Loach comment made me laugh out loud! I remember going to a travel agency once, and some people were at the desk - it took me a good five minutes before I realized that they were speaking English- they were from Scotland and had such thick accents that I could barely understand them. And I pride myself on being able to understand people. At the bank where I used to work, they would always send anyone with an accent to me.... because I have a generally good ear for it, and would take time to listen. I have a smattering of knowledge about most countries, and can converse fairly knowledgeably with someone from Europe. I would love to travel more, but I think that is not going to happen anytime soon.
  9. He has a really big..... gun. I still have to watch Breathless. I can't believe I haven't seen it yet. It is high in my queue, maybe I'll bounce it up to number one- I'll have to drop John Ford down a peg.... It's been hard to watch foreign films since my daughter was born. My hubby doesn't like to read subtitles so I kind of got out of the foreign film habit over the years. I need to catch up!
  10. I liked Legally Blonde. and the sequel was good too. There is nothing wrong with a little harmless fun. My favorite of the really silly movies though, is Clueless. It just tickles me beyond anything... I watch it every time it's on.
  11. No, but I will now! Hubba hubba. He looks so french.....
  12. Did you say you took your mom? Did she enjoy it too? I like having an excuse to go to kids movies! My daughter laughs at me because I will see something like Winn-Dixie, or Wall:e and at the end I cry...... although she had a couple where she lost it too. I just showed her ET and she looked up at the end and her eyes were red, and she burst into tears and then I felt bad....
  13. That's for sure. I can't put it off anymore. Oh, well. It's the least I can do. He gave me life, after all. I think it's a fair trade.
  14. That would be awesome! I hear he wears some other very intriguing outfits as well. My daughter says she wants to see Beverly Hills Chihuahua. I will probably be going to it in the next week....
  15. No, I am woefully weak in my French cinema- I have only seen the most famous movies, and even some of those I haven't seen. Le Doulos looks interesting. The description reminds me of something I saw with Alain Delon...... I will have to put it in the queue.... you must stop giving me more to watch, my brain will explode!
  16. OK. I, unfortunately still owe my dad pickles. He has been asking me to make pickles for about 3 months now. He gave me a recipe, and now, he is tired of waiting. I put it off as long as I could......
  17. Ooops. I crossed posts. This one is the one my dad has....
  18. I just caught a glimpse of GS in The Kremlin Letter. He looked quite good, considering his age. He was wearing a heavy coat and one of those hats Russians typically wear in cold weather - what are those called? I don't remember. I don't know, my dad got one though, when he went to Finland, and they are cool! His is black curly lambswool I think. Ahhh. I called him, and he says it's called an Astrakhan. Now I owe him pickles.
  19. Wow! That was fast! You may be the first person to watch the dvd!
  20. Thanks, FF. I am more of a dog than a cat, I think. Definitely like to loll around in a sunny spot. And I enjoy being petted, though it doesn't happen very often.... Now I'm going to have to go and rent The Kremlin Letter. You are making me want to see it....hubby might even watch this one. He loves heist movies, but maybe I can sidetrack him into espionage....
  21. Oh my gosh, that's great! That's going on as my screensaver right now! What a hoot! Thanks, George, oop, I mean Goddess. You got the tone just right! ****!
  22. I would love to have been Benita Hume.... deeply happy, and married to Ronald and George. Of course, who wouldn't be happy in those situations?
  23. I think Nolte can be a very good actor....he just doesn't take a very good mug shot.
  24. +Everyone I know is allergic to them, I've been very, very blessed not to be allergic to almost anything (except maybe some people )+ Isn't that the truth! I sometimes wish the world were populated with more animals than people. At least I understand animals.....
  25. I wonder if the "cad" role was a bit of a charade, really. A cover for the real George? I don't know. I am curious about the Benita Hume info you have. I read up on George a bit, and read his autobiography. But I didn't know much about Benita. I had read that she was happy with both her husbands despite predictions otherwise, and that when she became ill, George took care of her and he was desolate upon her death..
