  1. oh, I am very familiar with the Koala Bros.!

I am waiting to see how long it takes your daughter to yell out, "FOR PETE"S SAKE, GIVE HIM SOME MORE CARROTS!" after reading Diary of a Wombat. This has the effect of putting us all on the floor in a fit of giggles.

I hope she likes the pictures here.....

  2. There is actually another video of a Wombie (hey, I just made that up!) getting a trifle irritated, but I didn't post it because the lady in the video uses an "indecorous" word. It was the one called "Digger and Donna" for those of you who want to see a mad wombat, and don't mind some bad. language.

  3. The short answer is no, and it is illegal to own one as a pet in Australia. But there are tons of videos on you tube of cute and cuddly wombats, acting nice around people. However, when they don't act nice, wombats can be destructive and nasty, digging and screeching. They can grow quite large. Just keep a never ending supply of carrots on hand....

A great book... we still laugh over this one. I can't recommend it enough. Our favorite of all time....

  4. This sounds so ridiculous

Not at all, Ro. I feel the same- except when I am feeling old and grey (gray) like lately! I think I would like to have my own theme music- or maybe several different themes depending on my mood. One sophisticated melody that played whenever I entered a room, another for dramatic meaning, and another for romping thorugh the leaves in autumn.....

Your daughter is a riot! My daughter is starting to scream at the TV like me, whenever she sees young Mickey Rooney on TCM (which is quite a lot lately). She yells out "You look like a WEIRDIE to me!" (Night at the Museum)

Rose of Sharon is popping up all over my yard this year, because I didn't yank out the seedlings this spring. It really is almost a weed here....

We have been going out at sunset to watch the bats lately- first we had one or two, now there are four that fly over our deck at the back of the house. It's really cool, especially knowing that they are eating thousands of mosquitoes while they are swooping and diving over our heads.

Bronxie's description of rampant Iguanas begging for fruit reminded me of a really funny kids book we read- my daughter thought it was hysterical- it's called *Diary of a Wombat* . In Australia, instead of an iguana sitting on your chest, you might end up with a wombat....

  5. Well, maybe if you smile back at the coots you could get some free groceries.

The old guys I run into usually look like they are eying my groceries...it's probably not even me they want....

Coopsgirl- I have a lot of those semisweet regrets-I'm still thinking I did the right thing, but boy, oh, boy, I get a lot of joy out of thinking about those foreign boys I turned down...

  6. Sorry! I was so amazed that I actually got one, I forgot to post why! and please if someone wants to, go ahead- my brain is not up to it tonight.

Anita Page played the second lead in Our Dancing Daughters with the main role going to Joan Crawford. She was in Our Modern Maidens and Our Blushing Brides with Crawford as well.

Her final role was in Frankenstein Rising with former child star Margaret O'Brien.

She successfully entered the sound era with The Broadway Melody, but did not really make any headway in her career after that. She worked in movies until 1936, at which point she retired and married. She blamed her inability to get good roles on the fact that she refused to sleep with studio executives. In 1996, her career revived after 60 years, and she was making movies up until her death on September 6, 2008. She was the last living attendee of the first academy awards, and some say she was the last surviving silent film star. She will be missed.

  8. I think that scene you described should be just the thing for those of us braving the cool weather right now! I am warmer already. How about you, Miss G?

I think you should give Sunrise another try. It's funny you mentioned it, because this morning when I saw your pics of Charlie, all I could think of was George O'Brien in Sunrise. He is not as fine looking as Charles Farrell or Gary, but I think in Sunrise, he gives a very moving performance. He usually portrayed good guys as well, so I couldn't help thinking of him. None of the photos I have found of him show him to advantage, but I still think he was good-looking.
