What's a B-side?

Love that idea, BC. They ought to do it quickly, before we lose more of our great movie people. Or take all the interviews that they have done for the promos, and show the full interviews....
-
Good thing I love mashed potatoes! They're my favorite comfort food... Thanks for the pics!

Ford at Fox... and RKO, and MGM, and WB, and Columbia...

My god, you go away for a day and look what happens.... THREE PAGES?!?!! My eyes are sore reading all the hi-jinks going on on this thread.... Bronxgirl- Loved the tribute. and the review of Fathom. I know I shouldn't, but now I want to see it! I haven't yet been able to get through Cheyenne Autumn. I blame it on the color photography, not my total lack of stick-to-it-tive-ness?(is that a word)?? -
Colin Firth - yummmmmmmmmm.........

I have to agree with you, Isabel is a drip.... I second the vote for L.A. Confidential. Great movie. Think about Lone Star- I think it is John Sayles best movie so far. I bet you have a thing for Virginia Mayo too......You have a masochistic streak. -
Oooh, thanks, mickee! I love those Cat songs, too. Pretty much everything he did. and MissG- I am a blubbering mass of tears after that video. I always loved that song. I would love to do a Van Gogh tour some day. I have a thing about Provence (probably from reading too much Colette), and I sometimes feel that the warm air and vivid colors are healing. I would go there like a shot this week, with all this snow and northern greys and browns...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1RO2EI6OuM

I haven't seen Firelight or The Governess, but Nanny Mcphee was a hoot! I loed it and would say it's a future classic.... Mr. Belvedere- funny how you can just love Clifton Webb no matter how prickly he gets...
-
Another huge favorite of mine (early seventies again) is Nick Drake- and he happens to have a moon song too.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hE0ODrmaiFE

Oh, Frank, how can you resist such a beautiful picture? C'mon. Watch it. You can do it. Put aside "The Long Riders" "The Dirty Dozen" and "The Wild Bunch". Come have some tea.... -
I DO remember! That was when SNL was still this little cool show nobody really knew about. I love that clip, thank you thank you I just love both songs, and they were probably the best musical guests ever in the history of that show. Don't you wish you had been there, can you imagine? Awesome! Though I am not particularly religious, I think it's really strange that my two very most favorite musicians were both very spiritual....George and Cat (I mean Yusuf). I am definitely an early seventies girl.

I thought I saw George Reeves the other night! But it was late at night and I just forgot about it till now. Speaking of supremely silly movies, Samson and Delilah is one of my favorites. I just love Victor Mature. He was quite funny in real life and never really took his fame seriously.... "Hollywood is a place where the stars twinkle until they wrinkle." Never one to claim great acting credentials, when turned down for membership in an exclusive country club because "we don't admit actors" he replied, "I'm NOT an actor, and I've got 64 pictures to prove it!". "Actually, I am a golfer. That is my real occupation. I never was an actor. Ask anybody, particularly the critics...."

Don't you love the way she clips out the word "de-CAFF-einated". and her "mmmmmnnnmmm" could not have sounded sexier....

and Eric Blore in Top Hat! Hey, sisters! I wish I were as industrious as Dorothy Parker and could set aside time to read Vanity Fair once a year, like clockwork! It just has everything. I would list every other Jane Austen novel after, Jane Eyre, then maybe Colette's Break of Day (more reminiscence than novel), and then maybe a Virginia Woolf..... Let's see--- Miss Prism in the 1952 version of The importance of Being Earnest is I think my favorite governess. I love the way Margaret Rutherford says" Maturity can always be depended on. Rrrrrripeness can be trusted...." I don't know if it counts, but I just love Now, Voyager and I think Bette Davis' self-sacrificing Charlotte Vale kind of falls into this category, taking care of her married lover's alienated daughter. To me, this fits into that lovely Jane Eyre kind of role. My fave Jane Eyre was Zelah Clarke in the 1983 miniseries, but since it's not old or a movie, I think it is not appropriate here.
-
You must be my long lost twin sister, because you and I have the exact same favorite novels. Incredible! How about the lovely Una O'Connor as Bess, Lady Marian's maid in "The Adventures of Robin Hood"? Or Maisie? She ended up working as a maid in "Maisie was a Lady"- Hey, I would have done anything for a chance at meeting Lew Ayres ....

Dancin in the moonlight - great song! Sorry, I can't resist the segway from moon to sun.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuUhZxkr194

Oooh, a mystery, MissG. Now you have got my attention! What might the other two novels be? Perhaps a Jane Austen and a Charlotte Bronte? Maybe this should be a thread about governess movies?
-
Rawdon Crawley is my favorite character in the book. I've never seen Becky Sharp- I'll add it to my ever growing list...
-
O.K. I was really happy to hear the A-Ha video again yesterday, but now, 24 hours has gone by, and I can't get the song out of my mind! I will be doing something and realize I am singing it AGAIN for the 40 th time. So I am going to try and counteract it with another catchy tune.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BiuttQl0xM&feature=related

I love Alan Mowbray so much, especially as the ham actor in My Darling Clementine. wasn't he a butler in Topper? Almost flirtatiously helpful to Mrs.Topper?

Why, Thanks, Bronxgirl. You guys inspire me to think more deeply and write better! MissG- I am glad you liked the interview! I loved the story of the coins in the hat. -

Bronxgirl- I probably should have posted over there, anyway, instead of hogging the Ford at Fox box set thread! I have the excuse of still being a fairly new member and not knowing any better...... I will definitely check out the Western forum. I have been slowly working my way through the website, and haven't made it to some of the genre forums. -

Listen, I found this on Youtube, thought you might be interested- we discussed almost everything mentioned in this clip! By the way, there are more segments available if you look under Lee Marvin. Message was edited by: JackFavell -
Oh, I forgot Everybody Sing! Oh my gosh, I haven't seen that for years.
