Ro- sorry I didn't get back to you here, after complaining I had no one to talk to! I stupidly forgot to click the "watch thread" button.....
My daughter hated B+W films and especially silents when she was 5... today I got her to watch Chaplin instead of her cartoons! She probably only watched Chaplin because I let her watch all afternoon today instead of limiting her viewing......She watched the very end of *The Gold Rush* and by *The Circus* she really got into it. She is actually up right now because she got excited and wanted to see Modern Times! You should have heard her belly laughing at Chaplin's eating machine scene! I should probably go and try to get her to bed, but I hate to do it.... I am so happy that she loves Chaplin now.

Ditto on *A Kiss for Cinderella*.... I remember reading about it in the Everson book, too.

I found it accidentally with a google image search of Corinne Griffith. It was your page at Golden Age of Hollywood! Because Light from Heaven is exactly what it said on the description! And then there was a chat about The Big Parade! I had a feeling it was you!
I hope you don't mind me copying it and posting it here- it is just so beautiful. I will take it off if you like...I don't want to cause any problem between us. I just loved it so much......

Frank- Pork dumplings are a very comforting food, I think you should try them. They are quite bland.... just don' t dip them in the (truly wonderful) sauce made of soy sauce, ginger, minced onion and rice wine vinegar.

Dustin Farnum- William's brother and enornously successful screen star in his own right. He worked for Cecil B. DeMille in the teens, starring in "The Sqauw Man" and "The Virginian". His specialty was Westerns, but in 1917 he took on the role of Percy Blakeney in "The Scarlet Pimpernel". He was so popular that women named their sons after him- including Dustin Hoffman's mother.

I can't decide which swimsuit I like the best! I think Phyllis Haver's is pretty, but I really LOVE Marie Prevost's ballet style shoes and socks.....

Gosh! Jeff and Jorge, your pics are just beautiful! My daughter just loves the Renee Adoree pic with the purple dress.....

Jeff, I am going to bed. I am sick of trying to correct my pics over and over. I'll talk to you later. Have a good evening- don't kill yourself trying to fix that grain.......

Well, it certainly looks better than mine!
I am having trouble posting cropped pics on here. When I copy them through Photobucket, even if I cropped them on my own computer, they revert back to uncropped pictures. It is very frustrating. I guess I can't be so picky, but everyone else's pics look so neat and nice......

Then, there's poor Falcon Lair which has been demolished.
It's a shame.... from the pictures I've seen, it was so beautiful.

I have no idea where it was originally published. I scanned it from a favorite old book of mine- Daniel Blum's *A Pictorial History of the Silent Screen*. This and his *Talkies* book were my first ever movie books. I've had them since I was about nine years old. I would pore over them until I had all the pictures memorized. There are more pictures from the book posted over in the popular stars 1900-1919 thread.... I am using my husband's scanner to copy the pics......but he is kind of fussy about his toys, so I can only do a few......

Sorry bout the bad quality- I cropped all these photos in Photobucket, but when I sent them they reverted to the uncropped pictures. Argh....

Vilma- I don't know a lot about Valentino's private life. But the fact that someone cut up his scarf into a thousand little pieces to sell individually (either recently or back in the twenties) is a pretty sad state of affairs. I think if the scarf were intact it wouldn't be quite so creepy. It just makes you think that they would have torn him up into pieces as well......

Jeff,
There is very little known about Marie Doro- I can tell you that at the height of her career she played "Oliver Twist". There is a fan website where I got those photos, but she is another silent star who caught my attention in a picture book. The second picture (where she is holding a mirror) is the one I saw years ago and it really stayed with me. I really know nothing else, unfortunately.

Jeff- I read about unfortunate Marie Prevost online, and I am going to ignore the critics who only watched her weight or other sordid facts about her life and death. I thought she was super, and whenever I think of her I picture a still photo I have in a book somewhere. She looks quite gorgeous, wearing only a striped scarf!! The stripes are strategically covering major parts of her body, but the effect is just beautiful! I will try to scan it if I come across it. I am not so good at scanning, so we'll see. Anyway, I was figuring she would be one of those actresses who got by on good looks, but she certainly had talent as well.

Jeff- that must have been a really incredible experience at 11 years old! I would have loved to see it with an audience, oh my gosh, it would have been a thrilling moment I would always remember. I hope they handed out kleenex with the tickets.....
I love that *Unknown Chaplin* documentary - it was fascinating.
