[WRONG VERSION AMONG "THE ESSENTIALS"]

I must agree that the remake is a pale imitation of the original.Claudette Colbert,Louise Beavers and Freddi Washington all gave superb performances.The courage it must have taken to make that film.It came out in 1934 when segregation was almost total.Many theatres in the south refused to show it.Some southern film critics were critical of the fact that a white woman and a black woman

were portrayed as business partners.This film was Hollywood and the movies at their finest.
