  1.

    I would really love to be Guest Programmer and be allowed to choose four films for TCM to show. However, I don't believe TCM could (or anyone else for that matter) obtain broadcast rights.

    First off would be Johnny Concho - a 1956 Frank Sinatra western that never get shown.

    Secondly it would be 1984 - The 1956 black and white version starring Edmond O'Brien and Jan Sterling.

    Next I would have Off Limits - This is a military comedy from 1953 starring Bob Hope and Mickey Rooney.

    And to close out my appearance I would have Bedtime Story - This is a 1964 comedy with Marlon Brando, David Niven, and Shirley Jones. Viewers may be more aware of it's remake from 1988 titled "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine.

    And with that, I would offer to come back and be Guest Programmer anytime TCM requests it.

  2. It's true that a commercial driven channel has rights to show this movie. It has been shown many times and I'm sure almost everyone has their own copy by now. I have it on both VHS and DVD and way back when, I even had it on Beta. It is a great movie and worth watching, but only worth watching in the true TCM tradition uncut and commercial free. There is an alternative, if the viewers can convince the TCM programmers to obtain rights to televise "It Happened One Christmas". This is a TV movie from 1977 and is "It's A Wonderfull Life" with a female perspective. It stars Marlo Thomas as the female 'Jimmy Stewart', Wayne Rogers as the male 'Donna Reed', Orson Welles as the miserly 'Lionel Barrymore' and Cloris Leachman as the angel Clara Oddbody. I request this movie every now and then and if enough people request it maybe the programmers at TCM will obtain the rights and show it next Christmas and TCM can continue in it's programming excellence by bring us a movie not shown 100 times.

  3. If you've never heard of "Johnny Concho", it's because it's never shown. Unless IMDB (the Internet Movie DataBase) is playing a joke on everyone, it is listed under Frank Sinatra's filmography. I have never seen it and would like to see it someday. We'll probably know all about the Kennedy assination before we'll ever see this title.

  4. I don't know why TCM substituted for "The Dangerous Days of Kiowa Jones", but I'm sure TCM will make good on their promice to air this movie. For me, I enjoy those half-hour old TV drama series. I remember a while back, TCM substituted for "No Time For Sargents" and there was a huge uproar from the viewers and TCM eventually rescheduled "No Time For Sargents". So instead of getting upset, enjoy the dramatic series and eventually TCM will reschedule "The Dangerous Days Of Kiowa Jones".

  5. I would enjoy seeing some of the old Academy Award Presentations shown again. Some of them were uneventful, but some others were really memorable. I would enjoy seeing some of the early ones where Bob Hope served as Master Of Ceremonies. Then theres the one award show from the 70's where David Niven got off an excellent ad-lib concerning some 'jerk' that decided to streak the Awards show. I know seeing them again would bring back lots of memories. These shows were shown only once and with some highlights on the nightly news shows, but never rebroadcast again. It is something never done before and might be worth a shot.

  6. I agree, TCM does have a staple of movies that do appear quite often. As a matter of fact, I have all those movies already on DVD and/or VHS, and I still enjoy watching them again and again on TCM. TCM is the best. It is part of my basic package that I don't have to pay extra for, and it still shows more movies than any of the Pay Channels. Take HBO for instance. HBO brags about having 10, 11, or 12 channels and if they have more than one movie a month that I would consider worth viewing, I would be surprised. They show the same old tired movies month after month on all these channels they are so proud of broadcasting so in the course of a month, they may show some movies over 100 times. And like I said, I usually can't stand watching these just once. And on top of all that, HBO is the most expensive. Granted, TCM could show even more good movies if these that are shown every month are substituted for a couple months. But I will continue watching these just because they are commercial free, uncut, and in some cases letterboxed format, and with an interesting introduction.

  7. I have to say that Rita Wilson was by far the best substitute host for Robert Osborne. She knew what she was talking about and her introductions were smooth flowing. Most of the other guest hosts struggled with their intros. You could definately tell they were reading off a teleprompter and having a difficult time doing that. Rita Wilson was almost as good as Robert Osborne.

  8. Why is it taking so long to fix the problem with the 'Suggest A Movie' link? Since TCM.com instituted changes to it website quite a few months back, the 'Suggest A Movie' link has disappeared. I wrote and got got no response, but read message board messages from other viewers that TCM was working on the problem and it would be repaired shortly. It is now long past shortly and still nothing. What is the delay and why was it messed with to begin with. Hasn't anyone at TCM.com ever heard "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"?

  9. Every year there is always a debate over what Movies/Performances should have received the oscar but didn't. And what Movies/Performances received the oscar but shouldn't have. I would like to know what Robert Osborne considers the best Movies/Performances down through the decades taking one decade at a time selecting one from each dacade, then from those selected to chose just one winner from all those decade winners to be a "GRAND CHAMPION". Best Picture, Best Actor/Actress, Best Supporting Actor/Actress, and Best Director.

  10. Does TCM filter movie requests? I was just on the 31 days of Oscar page and tried to request 'All The Marbles' and in the description field I mentioned it was about women wrestling. That's the second time I requested it describing it as women wrestling. I've requested it without making reference to women wrestling and it posted. Making the reference and it doesnt post. I then tried to request the movie 'Fritz the Cat' and in the description I remarked it was an x-rated cartoon. That didn't post. I then requested the black & white 1956 version of the movie '1984' and that finally posted. What does TCM have against lady wrestling and x-rated cartoons?

  11. Have you been paying attention? TCM has been repeating about 10 movies every month for the last couple years, while never showing other titles in their library. Next thing you know, they'll be airing commercials between movies and then interrupting the movies to show commercials.

  12. Apparently, you didnt get the idea.

    Me personally, I'm tired of seeing those movies month after month. I have them either on VHS or DVD or both and can watch them at my leisure. What I would like to see are some of the other movies with those stars that TCM refuses to show. Movies like, 'Johnny Concho' and 'Sergeants 3' with Frank Sinatra. Movies like 'Topper' and 'Room For One More' and 'The Last Outpost' and 'The Eagle and The Hawk' with Cary Grant. Movies like 'Bedtime Story' with Marlon Brando. Movies like 'Jeanne Eagles' with Kim Novak. Why isnt TCM showing these?

  13. I have a great idea.

    Why not devote a month to Orson Welles. That way we can see Citizen Cane 30 more times.

    Why not devote a month to Clark Gable. That way we could see Gone With The Wind 30 more times.

    Why not devote a month to Marlon Brando. That way we could see On The Waterfront 30 more times.

    Why not devote a month to Cary Grant. That way we could see The Philadelphia Story 30 more times.

    Why not devote a month to Katherine Hepburn. That way we could see The Philadelphia Story even 30 more times.

    Why not devote a month to Jimmy Stewart. That way we could see The Philadelphia Story yet another 30 times.

    Why not devote a month to Frank Sinatra. That way we could see High Society 30 more times. And along with that we could see the movie High Society was a remake of (The Philadelphia Story) 30 more times with it.

  14. I'm sorry. I just don't see it. I've been requesting movies for a couple years and have yet to see any, with the exception of 'The Gang That Couldn't Shoot Straight'. I already knew this was scheduled to be shown this November. I just wanted to see what TCM says when you request something they can show.

    The movies I've requested aren't really that obscure. They just haven't been shown for many years, but they do have major stars in them.

    For example:

    Johnny Concho starring Frank Sinatra;

    Sergeants 3 also starring Frank Sinatra and the rat pack;

    Jeanne Eagles starring Kim Novak;

    You Cant Run Away From It and The War Between Men and Women both starring Jack Lemmon;

    Room For One More and Topper both starring Cary Grant and both requested by many other viewers for the same many years.

    These are not that obscure. They are rare due to the fact that they never get shown. Another is the first '1984' in black & white starring Edmond O'Brien and Jan Sterling made in 1956.

    I already have:

    Gone With the Wind;

    On The Waterfront;

    Citizen Cane;

    West Side Story;

    High Noon;

    North by Northwest and many of the other Great movies TCM shows. For the life of me I cant understand why these viewers that request these movies don't already have their own copies to watch whenever they want.

    I think a good idea would be to devote 20 hours of the day to showing titles that haven't been shown within the last 2 or 3 years, and the remaining 4 hours of the day to continue their recycling of the above mentioned classics. TCM supposedly owns thousands of titles and if they showed 10 a day, that would be over 3,600 a year and in 3 years they could have gone through over 10,000 titles and still have had well over 4,000 hours to devote to the movies they're continually recycling.

  15. I'm beginning to think they dont read these. I think its just here for viewers to talk back and forth and share their thoughts and feelings. I've been requesting movies for the longest time that I know are in Turners library (they show on TNT & TBS, but in edited format interupted by commercials) but they never show them. Instead they keep rehashing the same movies. Granted, these are great movies. The reason I know they're great is because I already have them either on VHS or DVD. I can watch these at my leisure. What I want are some movies I havent got that I can then tape and watch at my leisure. I think TCM should post a list of titles available to them and ask the viewers for suggestions from this list only and then show those most requested. Maybe they could set something up to allow only one request from an IP address per day. that way someone wouldnt be submitting a million requests.

  16. I'll tell you what I'd like to see. I'd like to see a listing of All the movies TCM has at their disposal. Thats right I said ALL. It cant be that many, because they keep showing the same staple of movies. I suggest movies and check the suggestions of other viewers on a daily basis. There are many, many excellent suggestions that I would have suggested, if I didn't already see it suggested by someone else. Then there are those suggestions of movies that have been shown yesterday or the day before or are being shown tomorrow that viewers are still suggesting. To top this, the movie has been shown every month or every other month for the past 10 years.

    Show me a list of movies that TCM can actually show. Show me a list of movies that TCM can possibly get telecast rights for if enough people request them. Show me a list of movies that TCM will never show.

    By viewing these lists, I, and others will know what is available and will stop wasting time requesting something that will never happen.

    This request sounds ridiculous, but for the life of me I can't figure out why TCM shows the same Movies (a majority are great movies, but there is an invention out there called a VCR that many viewers have) and never shows others that are available to them.
