  1. I'm with ThelmaTodd on this one. The football season ended for me when Jay Cutler broke his thumb. If I'm not watching TCM, I'll be doing something else. But, the super bowl is not among the things I'll be involved with.
  2. I'm looking forward to seeing the 1943 Abbott & Costello classic "It Ain't Hay". It's the only Abbott & Costello movie I haven't got.
  3. I agree there should be some explaination to go along with the movie. I'm basically the lazy type and would prefer having things explained and/or shown to me rather than my having to think or research anything.
  4. I wish I could help you, but more importantly, I wish I could help myself. I've been requesting and searching for years for the 1956 Frank Sinatra western titled "Johnny Concho". It is nowhere to be found. One would think that a Frank Sinatra movie that hasn't been released on Beta, VHS, DVD, or Blu-Ray would generate enough interest that the owners of the movies rights would want to make a profit and release it.
  5. Every time I would see Nita Talbot,I would think of the villianess from the old "Rocky and Bullwinkle" cartoons, Natasia Fatale. And conversely everytime I watched "Rocky and Bullwinkle" I would think of her.
  6. I'll tell you what they won't be showing. If they can't show Frank Sinatra's 1956 "Johnny Concho" now, they certainly won't be showing it in 2032.
  7. Wow, I wish my cable bill was only $63 or even $66 for that matter. I've been planning on changing and/or dropping some channels. I have a question that I hope you would answer for me. My building is wired for DirecTV and I'm considering switching. My question is, Do you have a DVR box? and also, Can you record what you record on your DVR box to a DVD or VHS recorder? The reason I ask is, I used to have Century Links Prism and at first I was able to record some movie channels and not record others. They kept increasing the number of channel I wasn't able to record to my DVD recorder and when Fox Movie Channel wasn't able to copy, I cancelled. What's the case with DirecTV if you know, or is it something that differs from place to place?
  8. To continue 'beating a dead horse', when I started my DVR for "The Thrill Of It All", I noticed the last 1 minute and 21 seconds of "Strike Up The Band" was running over. I looked on the schedule and the schedule had it listed with a 120 minute run time and in a 2 hour time slot. That means, it probably started about 81 seconds into its time slot which caused it to run over. I'm glad it really didn't interfere with "The Thrill Of It All" in any way. And I'm glad I wasn't planning anything special with "Strike Up The Band".
  9. For what it's worth, I think Dean Martin deserves to be Star of the Month. I was checking a listing of SOTM's that someone posted on a different post here and noticed Dean Martin was nowhere on the list. I would think someone of his talents should have been selected at least once.
  10. If these numbers are true, then I think TCM would have a voice in the various cable providers moving TCM to a higher cost programming tier that so many viewers complain about in these various posts. I TCM is moved to a higher cost programming tier, their cut of the "pie" should be higher and they should have an option of accepting the 'bigger piece' or remaining in the basic package and accepting their minimum cut.
  11. Kingrat, thanks for the "heads-up" regarding the theme. That's a "monkey wrench" Iwasn't figuring on. I may have to alter (I've already started selecting movies that I'm thinking of including) my listing somewhat. It's a good thing I'm only in the planning stage and can easily change what's been started. Thanks again.
  12. OK, I know this is going to confirm the fact that I'm an 'imbecile' but I'm confused about what constitutes a "premiere". What is meant by 'if there is an article on the TCMDB then its not a premiere' and 'if there is not an article then it is a premiere'. What is meant by 'article'. Is it the "brief synopsis"? I checked the TCMDB for a movie I definately know has never been shown on TCM (or any other channel for that matter) and it has a "brief synopsis". And I check a movie I definately know has been on TCM before (many times) and there was nothing really different between the two of them. So, exactly what is it I'm supposed to be checking? This is possibly the only clue I need to win the Challenge.
  13. My most memorable scene was from the movie "Star Wars". The very beginning as the rebel ship was being chased and fired upon by the Empires star ship. I saw it on a wide screen in full Dolby Sound and the Hugeness of the Empires ship overwelmed me as it just kept coming and coming and coming. It's size compared to the rebel ship was awesome. And then just about everything else in the movie is burned into my memory. It was something I never seen before. All the special effects were firsts and really impressive.
  14. Let me see if I've got this right. We're supposed to create a weeks worth of scheduling encompassing all the different features in a normal weeks worth of viewing on TCM? Correct me on any point I may be incorrect about. Some of the questions I have are where is there a list of movies eligible for inclusion and also we're allowed 14 premieres. How are we to know if a movie is a premiere or not? I've already got a general idea of what I want to do. I just need to know exactly what is allowed and not allowed so I can tell if what I'm thinking about is acceptable. Thank you in advance for any help with any of this requested information.
  15. I'm not trying to promote any other movie channel, because believe me I don't believe they're worth the price they charge, but of late I have noticed more and more movies being letterboxed on HBO, Cinemax, and Encore on both the regular channel and the HD channel. Starz on the other hand used to broadcast quite a few of it's movies in letterbox seems to be cutting back on the number of letterbox movies they show.
  16. While it's still fresh in my mind. Along the same lines, how about the 1960 TV movie "Peter Pan" starring Mary Martin and Cyril Ritchard? Speaking of 'campiness' (is that a word?) this one tops them all, not even attempting to hide the wires used to help Mary Martin fly.
  17. If TCM could show this, how about showing "Superman", a 1975 TV movie of the Broadway play that ran from 3/29/66 to 7/17/66. The TV movie aired on 'ABC Wide World of Entertainment' on 2/1/75. Among it's stars are David Wayne, Lesley Ann Warren, Loretta Swit, Kenneth Mars, Harvey Lembeck and Michael Lembeck. It is also known as "It's A Bird...It's A Plane...It's Superman". To me, this would fit perfectly for TCM's Underground Programming feature because of it's 'campiness' (is that a word?) .
  18. I have been searching everywhere and requesting on TCM for the 1956 western starring Frank Sinatra titled "JOHNNY CONCHO". Does anyone have any information on the status of this movie? I'm beginning to wonder if Frank Sinatra may not have been pleased with this movie and maybe purchased the rights and destroyed all copies. I hope that isn't the case, but I have to wonder. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the owner of the rights is wasting an opportunity to produce and distribute the movie.
  19. kingrat, I'm curious and interested in this challenge and was wondering if there was someplace where I could go to view someones submission from some previous year to get a general idea of the basic structure? I wouldn't think of duplicating someone else's work, but would like to use it as a sort of "skeleton".
  20. To answer, The Dirty Dozen ran 150 minutes but it started about 2 minutes into it allotted time slot so the last 2 minutes or so ran into the time slot allocated for Private Screenings so that program was pushed back a couple minutes and it end credits were cut short and ran into the next allotted time slot. The next time slot had enough extra padding at the end to accomodate the entire runtime of that program. A DVR can be set to start early or late and also end early or late, but you would need to know the amount of time that is going to occupy those extra minutes to accurately figure the exact start and end times.
  21. I tried replying to the comments left by others on this thread earlier, but my reply never posted so I'll try again. Let me start by saying, this is now not a one time occurance. It is happening a little to frequently of late. I have become somewhat lazy in the past when TCM always had more than enough filler at the beginning and ending of a programs allotted time slot. I never had to check the exact runtime of a movie to see if it would fit. In this case, not only did The Dirty Dozen overrun its allotted 2 hour 30 minute slot, but because it ran over it caused the following program (Private Screenings - Ernest Borgnine) to start late and that caused it to run past its scheduled end time. So it had a sort of domino effect. My DVR cannot record overlapping programs on the same channel. If I had known The Dirty Dozen was going to run over, I could have scheduled my DVR to record, lets say 5 extra minutes. But that means I wouldn't have been able to schedule Private Screenings to start on time. I would have had to schedule it to miss the 5 minutes I gave to The Dirty Dozen. I could handle this if I knew exactly what time a program was going to start. I could then calculate the runtime against the actual start time and then know what the exact end time would be. Or, TCM could go back to the way they've always scheduled programs with plenty of lead and lag time. HBO, Showtime, and Starz often overlaps their programs and I find it annoying, but when they do, I know I'll have at least 100 more chances to get it right within the next week. TCM often shows a movie only once and I might not be able to catch it again for a couple years. Plus HBO, Showtime, and Starz all have an On-Demand channel on my cable service where I could take advantage of their programming errors. TCM does have an On-Demand channel on my cable service, but they only have 4 or 5 movies listed. The point I'm trying to make is when TCM mismanages its time slot allotment it makes it difficult to adjust and it's something I just recently noticed occurying on a much to frequent basis.
  22. I've been noticing a sign of laziness amongst one (or more) of TCM's schedulers. Once again (The Dirty Dozen in this instance) the movie has run beyond it's allocated time block and consequently the last few minutes are running into the next scheduled movies time slot. My DVR is unaware of TCM's growing laziness and thusly cuts off at the scheduled end time. My DVR will not record overlapping programs so extending my record time an extra 5 minutes to catch those last few minutes will not work every time. The scheduler responsible for this shoddy scheduling should go back to scheduling movies at 'Starz' and 'HBO' and 'Cinemax' and 'Showtime' where this is a common practice. Remember, this is TCM where "uncut" means shown in it entirety. That should also mean it entirety within it's allocated time slot. Not its allocated time slot plus 5 minutes of the next scheduled programs time slot. This is a sure sign of laziness on someones part, and this person should be called and reprimanded for this.
  23. I'm glad to see "Stay Away Joe" scheduled for 4/30. It's one of two Elvis movies I don't have. The other being 1957's "Loving You".
  24. "Brother Can You Spare A Dime" a 1975 documentary depicting the great depression...from human tragedy to Hollywood glitter. I seen this many years ago. It was either on TCM or AMC, I can't remember which.
