  1. Hi CoopfanDan, Thank you for posting this breathtaking covers (the link didn't work with me and unfortunatly I can't find the covers on Amazon). I even begin to think again about purchasing them. I already have the Westerner on DVD (recorded somewhere in Asia and not bad at all) and I'm still wondering is the quality of transfer in this release worth buying or not. For example I bought Mr.Deeds twice (one DVD also from Asia on e-bay and another with some spesial features in France and I can tell you that there was almost no difference, only Asia DVD plays on all players and French - not, only on mine).

About Man of the West I'm thinking. I already have 2 VHS with it, very good, but lately want widescreen version, but there is already one in zone 2. I bought Garden of Evil on Amazon.uk - and it is great quality, colors, shape and widescreen after all. Yesterday I spent whole evening watching movies - Garden of Evil, Real Glory, which I haven't seen since summer, and 7 Man from now.

From the May releases I positevly made my mind to buy special edition of The Big Trail. I have it on VHS, but one of my friends in England send me half of this movie in widecreen version recorded from tv, and widescreen version is so differnt, and even some cut parts are in it - so I'm expecting much from it. By the way the movie itself is very nice and Duke in it is more Marion Morrison then Duke - very different.

  2. Babyjane imajes are not original, I think they are reprints from differnt sources (may be arhives) but great one! I like some images very much. I haven't buy from her yet, because her images are rather expencive (expecially for reprints).

I have one scrapbook from e-bay, but it seems they didn't appear very often.

As for photos I have some movie stills and photos and enjoy them more and more. So it worth it.

  3. Hi Frank, Thank you for great screencups from my favorite movie. To say truth I became Coops fun after two movies which I saw almost in the same time - Love in the Afternoon and Sergeant York.

I don't know why, but all pictures show up only when I open thred two or three times, when I first read the post with pictures usually I can't see no one of them.

The Long Voyage Home is endeed dark movie, but it is not a triller, nor film noir - so don't take me wrong. It is a story based on short E.O'Neil plays about some desperate sailors, who lost any hope long time ago. They are from different countries with different backgrounds/ Only one of them still have hope to return to his home and mother - young swed, who is played by Duke. He do escapes at the end but sobebody always had to pay....

That is what is all about in few words.

  4. Hi Frank,

Im too haven't seen How Green Was my Valley yet and also have it in my mind.

Fort Apache and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon is included in Ford/Wayne collection - in the whole an exeptional choice of Ford's films. My favorite there is The Searchers, also it includes Stagecoach (both in special editions with a lot of extra features. Three Godfathers is a nice Christmas western and They Where Expendable may be the best war film. The Long Way Home is rather dark film and some people don't like it, but Ford was genious in all he had done.

  5. I'm too think that the teaming with Brennan was the best in The Westerner with close Sgt.York and John Doe. All amoung my favorite movies with Coop. It is strange thing with Cooper, I can't say which of his movies are on the first place to me, which is on the second. Too many favorites.

By the way, Frank, Hanging Tree is amoung them. I found something mesmerizing in this film, return to it every time. Sure glad that I have it now on DvD, but I will keep VHS too.

And don't count too much on my taste LOL. By the way I like Errol Flynn.

The news on upcoming releases are very dissapointing. I hoped that WB or Universal will release new Coop collection this year. I never saw Bright Leaf and want to see it very much, was it released on VHS. I didn't ever saw it on e-bay. But even if we have to wait until new releases I still have way to go. Thanks to e-bay dealers by the way - there is still titles which I don't have yet.

Watched lately If I had a million. Got mixed impression. Some parts are good, some - rather weak.

  6. MissG,

Exactly, I also decided to get biography of Linkoln after watching this movie!

Gary as Abe? But Henry Fonda was also very good in this part. By the way I've read in some Ford biography that he didn't want to play Linkoln and Ford inspired him to see Linkoln in different way more human. More close to him.

  7. Hi Angie,

Thanks for the new clip of Gary and Clara Bow. I really enjoyed it.

I like The Pride of Yankees too. I bought it at e-bay first. But it was lost at the post I guess, so I furst saw it in the parts on Your Tube, but this movie must be watched from the beginning to the end - it deserve it. Now I'm lucky to have that chance.

The only trouble for me is that I have now idea about baseball - what this all about. Simply can't understand what's going on in this game. It must be interesting as it so popular in USA.

  8. Most moviegoers don't know who directs their favorite films and many of those who post on this board are unaware of directors. I'm clearly in the minority around here, although there's been an awakening in some.

Funny, but my true love for movies had been started from the directors. European mostly (Fellini was a big favorite of mine when I was young), because Hollywood films from the Golden Era was shown on rare occasions and I discovered them to myself only now.

And now I also try to get all movies from my favorite directors. Ford is now on unreacheable top for me. I'm very sorry that he didn't directed Gary. His latest film which I saw was Young Mr.Linkoln, it was released here, so I bought it, but I didn't expect to like it - I thought that biography of Linkold should never interest me. But when I saw it I was totally impressed, Ford was true genios and his black and white films - is pure poetry, can watch them any time. Even my favorite amoung his movies is The Seachers. I have all his films with Duke (I consider myself his big fun too).

Speaking of Curtiz my favorites amoung his films are the ones with Flynn - Captain Blood and Sea Hawk. But of course Casablanka was his swan song indeed.

Lately I enjoy all films directed by Capra and looking for them. The latest one for me was Mr.Smith Goes to Washington - I've heard that it makes a trilogy with Mr.Deeds and John Doe.

I also like films directed by Wyler, Hawks, Billy Wilder as a director and also as a brilliant screenwriter and Walsh. So when I choose the movie I guess I look first who directed it (the only exeption when direction doesn't matter for me to watch the movie is when Gary Cooper or Duke are in it)

  9. Don't forget me with The Fountainhead - it is one of my all time favorite movies. I like the diloge too - when I first watched this movie I became like crazy. Bored everybody to death with it. LOL For me it is a masterpiece in all sences.

Sorry I wasn't much around here lately - was abroad again and bought two DVDs with Gary - Pride of the Yankees and If I had a Million.

  10. I also just loved Frendly Persuasion very much, for me it is not only about the family but also about religion and war. It is much deeper then only family movie. I even drop a tear or two - why I can't have a husband like that. LOL

It seems to me that in France they love Gary. They released also The Hanging Tree and I couldn't go away from this DVD even if I have it on VHS. I also picked up better when I have versions of Mr.Deeds and John Doe with Frank Capra Jr. commentary. Spend all my money on DVDs or almost all.

  11. I also got Scrapbook and clippings from e-bay. Many great photos and some articles. Also received some photos. And the most delightful for me that in Paris I bought DVD releases of Desire, Blubeard Eight's Wife and Frendly Persuasion. I loved them so much. So I'm having a great time lately!
