  1. *_BEST Natasha Richardson FILMS_:* *_Waking Up in Reno_ (2002)* - OMG! This is my "ALL-TIME" "favorite" Natasha Richardson film!!! This film makes me laugh so hard. I got to meet Ms. Natasha Richardson at the 2001 Denver Film Festival when she there with director Jordan Brady; & her Co-stars: Patrick Swayze, Billy Bob Thornton & Charlize Theron to do a Q/A with the audience about the film! Fun night. Simply: The film is about a romantic comedy about two trashy couples traveling to Reno to see a monster truck show....Has to be seen to be believed..... I love the cat fight between Charlize Theron & Natasha Richardson .....LOL!!! *_Gothic_ (1986)* - I loved her as Mary Shelley! *_The Handmaid's Tale_ (1990)* - Interesting film ...interesting cast...Not only Natasha Richardson ...but Faye Dunaway, Robert Duvall, Aidan Quinn & Elizabeth McGovern. *_The Parent Trap_ (1998)* - Cute re-make. Dennis Quaid & Natasha Richardson are cute together....Oh yeah and Lindsay Lohan before the "melt down"! *_Past Midnight_ (1992)* - Another film to see for the _cast alone_ ....Rutger Hauer ...Natasha Richardson ....Paul Giamatti! *_Evening_ (2007)* - I really liked this film despite the critics. It was worth seeing in theater. I lost my mom a year before..the film really touched me. The film alternates between two time periods, the 1950s and the present, in which a dying Ann Grant Lord reflects on her past. *_Widows' Peak_ (1994)* - Another great fun film with a great cast ....Mia Farrow Joan Plowright, Natasha Richardson, Adrian Dunbar & Jim Broadbent (My Favorite!). . *_Fat Man and Little Boy_ (1989)* - This film reenacts the Manhattan Project....Natasha Richardson with another great story and cast which includes,,, John Cusack.. Bonnie Bedelia & the Late-Great Paul Newman!!! *.............................-----------------------------------...........................---------------* *'Spectacular' Natasha Richardson won the Tony Award for 'Cabaret'* Gold Derby by Tom O'Neil Los Angeles Times *As medical personnel struggle to save Natasha Richardson's life after she suffered head trauma during a skiing accident, it's important to recall what a vital life she's had as a performer.* As medical personnel struggle to save Natasha Richardson's life after she suffered head trauma during a skiing accident, it's important to recall what a vital life she's had as a performer. In 1998, Natasha Richardson won a Tony Award for lead actress in a musical for her appearance in the Roundabout Theatre Company's acclaimed production of "Cabaret." The show was helmed by Sam Mendes and co-directed and choreographed by Rob Marshall. This reimagined revival of "Cabaret" was staged in a cabaret setting at the Henry Miller Theatre. Among the praise for her performance, the New York Times called Richardson "spectacular." For her raw portrayal of an English singer caught up in the madness of Nazi Germany, Richardson first won the Drama Desk award. And then at the Tonys, she prevailed over a quartet of musical theater vets ? Betty Buckley ("Triumph of Love"), Marin Mazzie ("Ragtime") and co-nominees Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner ("Side Show"). Five years earlier, Natasha Richardson had earned a Tony nod for her Broadway debut in the third rialto revival of Eugene O'Neill's "Anna Christie." In the race for lead actress in a play, she competed against her aunt Lynn Redgrave, who paid tribute to Natasha's grandfather, Sir Michael Redgrave, in "Shakespeare for My Father." They and Jane Alexander ("The Sisters Rosensweig") lost to Alexander's co-star Madeline Kahn. Richardson's soon-to-be husband Liam Neeson made his Broadway debut opposite her. He too was nominated for a Tony Award, losing to Ron Liebman for "Angels in America: Millennium Approaches." However, the play did win the Tony for best revival. When Natasha Richardson emerged as a notable stage star in 1986 at age 23 with an appearance opposite her mother, Vanessa Redgrave, in Chekov 's "The Seagull," she won the London Drama Critics' Circle award as most promising newcomer. Richardson also received kudos for her film work. She twice won the Evening Standard prize for best actress. Her first victory came in 1990 for roles in "The Comfort of Strangers" and "The Handmaid's Tale." And she prevailed again in 2005 for "Asylum," which she also produced. In an interview with the awards' sponsoring newspaper, Richardson described the project about the wife of a psychiatrist who falls in love with a mental patient committed to an institution for killing his wife as " a small, dark, sexy film" adding, "I felt a connection with it like you feel when you fall in love."
  2. *Exclusive: Moore Talks The Thing* *Galactica producer on his John Carpenter redux.* by Scott Collura IGN March 18, 2009 March 18, 2009 - IGN was lucky enough to catch a special screening in New York this week of the Battlestar Galactica finale (everyone dies? wait, everyone lives? wait, we're not giving any plot details away!) and afterwards we grabbed the show's mastermind and executive producer Ronald D. Moore to chat about his in-development remake/reboot of the _John Carpenter classic The Thing._ First off, Moore notes that writing a feature for a studio (Universal in this case) is a very different beast than running a TV show. "I did my drafts," he says. "They were happy. They have a director and, you know, it's the feature world and I'm not the key player so we just wait and see if they're going to greenlight it or not. I'm not the chef. I'm the short-order cook who comes in and does my thing and we'll see what they want to serve." That director is Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., who is also attached to helm the zombie project Army of the Dead for producer Zack Snyder (Watchmen). Additionally, Moore points out that the new film will not be a sequel or a reboot to the Carpenter film but more of a contemporary, of a sort, of the 1982 flick. "Well, it's not a remake," he says. "It's really a companion piece to the Carpenter version. We're telling the story of the Norwegian camp that found the Thing before the Kurt Russell group did, so it's very buried in the continuity [and] it's supposed to be the other story that you saw part of. So we didn't want to reinvent it. It was really much the opposite. We really wanted to have this flow seamlessly into what he did." Interesting? Stay tuned to IGN Movies for more news on The Thing as it breaks!

  6. *Happy St. Patrick's Day all!! ENJOY!!!* *Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with top Irish movie locations* Posted by Team Boxwish 17 March 2009 Happy St. Patrick?s Day Boxwishers! I hope you?re all wearing green and downing Guinness in celebration of the event. Of course, I jest ? it?s maybe a little too early for the drinking to kick off in earnest ? but today is the day to show our love for the Emerald Isle and in true Boxwish style we?re doing so through movies. We haven?t rounded up the best Irish films or best Irish actors and actresses, as these lists would simply take far too long, so instead we?re taking a leisurely tour to find three of the best Irish locations from the world of cinema. And to make it truly worthy of our best efforts ? we?re not including Dublin. *County Cork in _The Wind That Shakes the Barley_ (2006)* This Ken Loach directed, Palme d?Or winning drama from 2006 tells the story of two brothers (one played by Cillian Murphy) who join the Irish Republican Army to fight for the country?s independence from the United Kingdom in the early 20th Century. The siblings originate from Ireland?s southernmost county, County Cork (as does Murphy) and so much of the filming occurred in the area, specifically Ballyvorney, Timoleague and Bandon. ?The locations were a really big challenge,? remembers production designer Fergus Clegg, explaining ?21st Century Ireland has changed such a lot from 1920?s Ireland.? *Limerick City in _Angela's Ashes_ (1999)* An uncompromising account of life in Limerick in the 30s and 40s, this 1999 drama from Alan Parker and starring Emily Watson and Robert Carlyle is based on the bestselling memoir of Frank McCourt. It follows the hardships McCourt?s family faced and as a result some Limerick natives criticised its grim depiction of their home. Fans argue that the gloom is due to the grim time period and not the location, but it?s not the film?s reception that concerned McCourt rather the difficulties in making it, calling for a stronger movie community in the area with the plea: ?Don?t let it all go to Dublin!? *Counties Mayo and Galway in _The Quiet Man_ (1952)* This classic John Wayne/ Maureen O?Hara romantic comedy from 1952 is set in Lough Hill, County Sligo, yet much of it was actually filmed in the neighbouring western county of County Mayo and County Mayo. It is there, in locations including Mayo?s village of Cong that the courtship between the Irish-American Sean (Wayne) and feisty, red-haired local girl Kate (O?Hara) plays out. Other local sites of interest include Lettergesh Beach, Thoor Ballylee and Ashford Castle where the film?s fan club meet annually to honour the timeless favourite.
  7. *I just located ...and Re-Watched (After many years!) _Invaders from Mars_ (1986) (Remake of the 1953 William Cameron Menzies film of the same name) with Karen Black staring alongside her real-life minor son Hunter Carson, directed by Tobe Hooper & from a screenplay by Dan O'Bannon (Alien (1979) and Don Jakoby* *_Trivia_:* The movie was shot in Malibu Creek State Park using a house that was built for Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (1948). *Crappy Re-Make ...Just fun to watch Karen and her son act together!*
  8. *Broadway theaters to dim lights for Ron Silver* March 17, 2009 *NEW YORK (AP) -- Broadway theaters will dim their lights Wednesday in honor of actor Ron Silver who died Sunday after a two-year battle with esophageal cancer.* Theater marquees will be dimmed for one minute at 8 p.m., the traditional starting time for evening performances of Broadway shows. Silver won a 1988 best-actor Tony Award for performance in David Mamet's "Speed-the-Plow" and appeared in such plays as "Hurlyburly" by David Rabe and the comedy "Social Security." From 1991 to 2000, he was president of Actors' Equity Association. Silver was 62.
  9. Well ...it was a different time between then and now....thank God for books and films that we never forget those times....some things are still the same...ewe may have black man in the white house ....but hate...prejudice and greed still exist today ...look at what happened with Prop. 8 last year in California...."HATE" ..... For example......I just got done reading a really great book called: _The Bad and the Beautiful: Hollywood in the Fifties_ & it states (Other books mention this "affair" as well!)... Kim Novak & her controversial affair with Sammy Davis, Jr. had to be hushed up. Late in '57 Harry Cohn was furious when word leaked of her affair with Sammy Davis, Jr. In early January '58 in Vegas, Jerry Lewis filled in at a show for Sammy because Sammy was supposedly in Chicago proposing to Kim. Cohn was terrified that rumors of the explosive relationship would ruin his top star's career, she later said her agent told her she'd be finished in Hollywood if she kept seeing Sammy. When she didn't back down, supposedly Cohn hired some thugs to take Sammy out into the desert and threaten him, though this story is unconfirmed. Legend has it that even his best pallie Frank told Sammy to "cool it" with Kim. Whatever the truth was, a week later Sammy suddenly married a black chorus girl in Vegas, a ceremony many critics thought was cooked up by the fearful studio but that Sammy maintained was legit. He separated from the girl seven weeks later in March of '58. Kim still says they were only ever "good friends" with a "warm friendship." *....................Yes, ok Kim ...I believe U! (Wink!)* *Today it would be very different!!!* But today (Regardless of color ....it now comes down to a persons Lifestyle ....gay or straight (WHO CARES really!??!.) .... *A "Movie Star" (Or any public figure!) can get down right drunk, get arrested, even .....act bat ^$% crazy on Sunset Blvd.. ...& bam they are a "SUPERSTAR" ....;.Kids look up to him or her ..The press call these "So-Called" people ....Stars & Idols ...etc....But at least back then Studios controlled the stars and stars acted liked stars....!!!* *Sad it's about race or sexuality ...and not about drinking or the drugs!!! The real issue!!!*
  10. *1939 Gone With the Wind response* *The film premiered in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 15, 1939 as the climax of three days of festivities hosted by the mayor which consisted of a parade of limousines featuring stars from the film, receptions, thousands of Confederate flags, false antebellum fronts on stores and homes, and a costume ball.* *The governor of Georgia declared December 15 a state holiday. President Jimmy Carter would later recall it as "the biggest event to happen in the South in my lifetime."* Hattie McDaniel, as well as the other black actors from the film, were prevented from attending the premiere due to Georgia's Jim Crow laws, which would have kept them from sitting with the white members of the cast. Upon learning that McDaniel had been barred from the premiere, Clark Gable threatened to boycott the event. McDaniel convinced him to attend. From December 1939 to June 1940, the film played only advance-ticket road show engagements at a limited number of theaters, before it went into general release in 1941 It was a sensational hit during the Blitz in London, opening in April 1940 and playing continuously for four years. World premiere at Loew's Grand Theater in Atlanta, GA: 15 Dec 1939 New York opening: 19 Dec 1939 Los Angeles opening: 28 Dec 1939 *Gable with third wife, Carole Lombard at the premiere of Gone With The Wind in Atlanta, Ga.* In 1939 Hattie McDaniel became the first African-American Oscar Award winner for her performance in Gone With the Wind .
  11. Hattie McDaniel, as well as the other black actors from the film _Gone with the Wind_ (1939), were prevented from attending the premiere due to Georgia's Jim Crow laws, which would have kept them from sitting with the white members of the cast. Upon learning that McDaniel had been barred from the premiere, Clark Gable threatened to boycott the event. McDaniel convinced him to attend. The premiere was held in Atlanta, Georgia. It was supposedly the first time that David O. Selznick had been in the South. *_Afterwards_* . The stars of Gone With The Wind flew off, mostly to New York, where the New York premiere was to be held the following week. On the flight out, Laurence Olivier proposed to Vivien Leigh. She accepted. The stormy relationship was marred by Leigh's medical problems (both physical and mental) which doomed the 20 year marriage towards the end. Clark Gable would lose Carole Lombard in a 1942 air crash on a trans-continental flight. It is said that Lombard was the only woman Gable ever loved. Hattie McDaniel won the Oscar? for Best Supporting Actress. Some critics charge that the Academy of Motion Pictures awarded it to her because she was excluded from the Atlanta premiere. This completely ignores the fact that Hattie gave an outstanding performance as Mammy. Other Oscars? went to Vivien Leigh, writer Sydney Howard, director Victor Fleming, and David O. Selznick (Best Picture). Butterfly McQueen, best known for her role as "Prissy" in Gone With The Wind died in a tragic accident in Augusta, Georgia 1995 involving a kerosene heater that caught the dress she was wearing on fire. She ran outside and attempted to roll on the ground. A passing teenager smothered the fire with a blanket, but the badly burned actress died 10 hours later. Fire destroys the Loew's Grand Theatre on January 31, 1978, site of the premier of David O. Selznick's Gone With The Wind. *------------------------------------------OTHER INFO---------------------* *SEE BELOW!* ----------- *_Gone with the Wind_ (1939)* Classic melodrama from 1939. One of the most successful and popular movies ever made, it was directed by three different directors, George Cukor, Victor Fleming, and Sam Wood, though Fleming did the majority of the work and gets the majority of the credit. The screenplay was written by Sidney Howard, based on Margaret Mitchell's novel. Rhett: "No, I don't think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That's what's wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, and by someone who knows how." The movie starred Clark Gable as Rhett Butler, Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara, Leslie Howard as Ashley Wilkes, Olivia de Havilland as Melanie Hamilton, Hattie McDaniel as Mammy, and Butterfly McQueen as Prissy, among many others. Scarlett: "But you are a blockade runner!" Rhett: "For profit, and profit only." Scarlett: "Are you tryin' to tell me you don't believe in the cause?" Rhett: "I believe in Rhett Butler. He's the only cause I know." Producer David O. Selznick purchased the movie rights to Mitchell's book only a month after it was published. He paid her $50,000, which was, at the time, the highest amount ever paid for an author's first novel. Rhett: "Did you ever think of marrying just for fun?" Scarlett: "Marriage, fun? Fiddle-dee-dee! Fun for men, you mean." "Gone with the Wind" received Academy Award nominations for Gable as Best Actor and de Havilland as Best Supporting Actress, as well as nominations for special effects and for composer Max Steiner's score. It won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Writing, Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Art Direction, and Best Color Cinematography. Leigh won Best Actress, and McDaniel won for Best Supporting Actress--she was the first black person to be nominated for and to win an Academy Award. Mammy: "Oh no, you ain't! If you don't care what folks says about this family, I does. And I done told you and told you, you can always tell a lady by the way she eats in front of people like a bird. And I ain't aimin' to have you go over to Mista John Wilkes' house and eat like a field hand and gobble like a hog." Scarlett: "Ashley Wilkes says he likes to see a girl with a healthy appetite." Mammy: "Well, I ain't see Mista Ashley asked for to marry you." McDaniel herself did not attend the movie's grand premiere in Atlanta. Georgia's racial segregation laws barred blacks from "white only" theaters. Selznick was prepared to fight to get McDaniel admitted into the theater, but McDaniel, possibly fearing bad publicity for the movie (and perhaps for herself), sent the producer a letter, saying she would be unable to attend the premiere. Desegregation in Georgia would have to wait another few decades... Scarlett: "Rhett, if you go, where shall I go? What shall I do?" Rhett: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." The most famous line in the movie almost didn't make it to the screen. Back in 1939, the Hayes Code dictated that swearing was forbidden on the big screen, and a number of alternate lines were suggested for Rhett, from the less-than-concise "Frankly, my dear, my indifference is boundless," to the dull "Frankly, my dear, I just don't care," to the silly "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a hoot." In the end, Selznick chose to pay the $5,000 fine to keep the line in the film, but audiences were not appreciative. Many viewers stormed out of theaters in disgust when Gable said the D-word. Scarlett: "As God is my witness, as God is my witness, they're not going to lick me! I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again! No, nor any of my folk. If I have to lie, steal, cheat, or kill! As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again!" Research from the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com)

Very boring. I saw it in theater at a press screening ....1st time ever ...I actually drifted off to sleep in between scenes.

"He had been fighting esophageal cancer for two years." Silver, an Emmy nominee for a recurring role as a slick strategist for liberal President Jed Bartlet on "The West Wing," had a long history of balancing acting with left-leaning social and political causes. But after the 2001 terrorist attacks, longtime Democrat Silver turned heads in Hollywood with outspoken support of President George W. Bush over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Silver spoke on Bush's behalf at the 2004 Republican National Convention, began referring himself to himself as a " 9/11 Republican" and reregistered as an independent.
