I love this film!! Being a film buff , to me this is the greatest love letter and a parody of, and homage to, film noir and the pulp detective movies of the 1940s and 1950s. A one joke movie? Perhaps, but it's such an engaging joke that anyone who loves old movies will find it irresistible. Among the actors who appeared from classic films were Edward Arnold, Ingrid Bergman, Humphrey Bogart, Wally Brown, James Cagney, William Conrad, Jeff Corey, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Brian Donlevy, Kirk Douglas, Ava Gardner, Cary Grant, Alan Ladd, Veronica Lake, Burt Lancaster, Charles Laughton, Charles McGraw, Fred MacMurray, John Miljan, Ray Milland, Edmund O'Brien, Vincent Price, Barbara Stanwyck, Lana Turner and Norma Varden. *_Sad Note_:* This was legendary Costume Designer Edith Head's final film. There is a tribute to her in the closing credits denoting this. Fittingly, the film features many of her earlier designs in cleverly edited clips from old movies. Also the last film of legendary composer Mikl?s R?zsa. This was ironic since he was also asked to rescore music for original images that he had worked on in the 1940s and 50's. *_Best Lines_:* Rigby Reardon: All of a sudden I had to remember some words that Marlowe had told me over fifteen years ago: Dead men don't wear plaid. Hm. Dead men don't wear plaid. I still don't know what it means. Rigby Reardon: All dames are alike: they reach down your throat and they can grab your heart, pull it out and they throw it on the floor, step on it with their high heels, spit on it, shove it in the oven and cook the **** out of it. Then they slice it into little pieces, slam it on a hunk of toast, and serve it to you and then expect you to say, "Thanks, honey, it was delicious." *The films used in _Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid_ (1982):* _This Gun for Hire_ (1942) _The Glass Key_ (1942) _Double Indemnity_ (1944) _The Lost Weekend_ (1945) _The Killers_ (1946) _Johnny Eager_ (1941) _Keeper of the Flame_ (1942) (uncredited) _Deception_ (1946) _Humoresque_ (1946) - Joan Crawford!! _The Big Sleep_ (1946) _The Postman Always Rings Twice_ (1946) _Dark Passage_ (1947) _The Bribe_ (1949) _White Heat_ (1949) _Suspicion_ (1941) _Notorious_ (1946) _I Walk Alone_ (1947) _Sorry, Wrong Number_ (1948) _In a Lonely Place_ (1950)

Like I stated.....The ending is clich?d & predictable!! But it works... _Miracle at St. Anna_ (2008) During World War II, four black American soldiers find themselves trapped in a Tuscan village behind enemy lines. As they attempt to evade German forces and reunite with their comrades, the four experience firsthand the tragedy and triumph of war. Based on the acclaimed novel by James McBride and directed by Spike Lee, this epic war film stars Laz Alonso, Derek Luke, John Turturro, Omar Benson Miller and Michael Ealy. -

_Miracle at St. Anna_ (2008) was a very good film! At times flawed, at other times very clich?d. Ran a tad to long! Could have been shorter. Very predictable ending. Spike Lee is not 1 of my favorite directors, but he has a very good eye for detail and telling a story. Sometimes his politics and his views get inthe way of the story. _Miracle at St. Anna_ seemed to be all over the place in it's story telling, not to sure where it wanted to go. I finally caught it when it came out on DVD. I usually don't pay attention to a films running time, but _Miracle at St. Anna_ felt long. I have a rule about a DVD...once it is in...never turn it off....I watch it just like a film in theater. _Miracle at St. Anna_ ...I had to turn if off and strech my legs! At times the story seemed convoluted. The ending waspredictable. I have seen it done 100xs before. But it still worked. Not 1 of the "Best" films of 2008, still like _Defiance_ (2008) still worth a look. 1 thing.... If U have seen the film....PLEASE DON'T GIVE THE ENDING AWAY IF OTHERS HAVEN'T SEEN THE FILM!! My Final Rating: C- -

*Kitt's Publicist Lashes Out Over Oscar Tribute* San Francisco Chronicle Feb. 26, 2009 Late actress/singer Eartha Kitt's former publicist has lashed out at Oscar producers for omitting her from a segment paying tribute to stars who had passed away over the past year. Kitt died on Christmas Day after losing her battle with colon cancer, at age 81. Best-known for her role as Catwoman in the original 1960s "Batman" TV show, the singer also co-starred in movies with Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis Jr. and Sidney Poitier. And the Emmy winner's former publicist, Andrew Freedman, is outraged her glittering career was overlooked during Sunday's telecast. He tells the New York Post, "The producers are either 12 or have been living under a rock for the past 60 years. It's clear that they thought that publicist Warren Cowan was more of a household name. Go figure." The Academy Award's In Memoriam segment featured Charlton Heston, Paul Newman, Sydney Pollack and dozens of stars who passed away in 2008.

*?The French Lieutenant?s Woman?: BBC in talks to remake classic film ?The French Lieutenant?s Woman?* Entertainment and Showbiz!, India - Feb 19, 2009 *The BBC is said to be in talks with a major Hollywood studio to remake the classic film ?The French Lieutenant?s Woman?.* According to a Hollywood executive, there are discussions of making a fresh adaptation of the 1969 novel by the late John Fowles with the BBC. Gary Marenzi, MGM co-president of worldwide television distribution, said that outline plans for the new adaptation would be a four one-hour miniseries. ?We have just got another draft of the script. Now we?ll start to look at casting and where to shoot, it could start later this year,? the Telegraph quoted him as saying. Marenzi further added that the film might be set in America, even though the book is solely based Lyme Regis. But the news of the location being elsewhere did not sit well with friends of the author, who have said if any new production was to be filmed anywhere else, it would be a travesty and an ?insult? to his memory. ?The first third of the book is all about Lyme, how could they possibly think of setting it anywhere else?? Ken Gallop, a trustee at the town?s museum where Fowles worked as a volunteer curator, said. ?I don?t think that John would have given his permission for it to be filmed anywhere else if he was alive today. ?Even now we get lots of American women with their daughters coming down to the Cobb and posing,? he added. Fowles? widow Sarah added: ?If and when it happens I would be very pleased not only for John but for Lyme Regis too.? A BBC spokesman has, however, not confirmed whether the new adaptation will go ahead. ?The talks are loose. We haven?t agreed anything,? he said. (ANI)

I'm sorry another *misjudgement* by the Academy ....Dan Aykroyd should have won for _Driving Miss Daisy_ (1989) for his portrayal of Boolie Werthan!
