Gary Cooper .............. In 1953, Cooper won his second Best Actor Academy Award for his performance as Marshal Will Kane in _High Noon_, considered his finest role. Ill with an ulcer, he wasn't present to receive his Academy Award in February 1953. He asked John Wayne to accept it on his behalf, a bit of irony in light of Wayne's stated distaste for the film. *Celebri-links ............. John Wayne!*

*Love this film ...wish they could find the cut footage!* *Premiere voted this movie as one of "The 25 Most Dangerous Movies".* Although production chief Irving Thalberg decided to re-cut the picture immediately after the disastrous test screening, he could not cancel the world premiere on January 28, 1932 at the 3,000-seat Fox Theatre in San Diego. This is the only venue at which the uncut version of "Freaks" is known to have played. Ironically, the unexpurgated "Freaks" was a major box-office success. Crowds lined up around the block to see the picture, which broke the theatre's house record. By the end of the run, word had spread that "Freaks" was about to be butchered, and the theatre advertised, "Your last opportunity to see 'Freaks' in its uncensored form!"

*HAYLEY MILLS IS HAPPY AT 64* Wednesday July 14,2010 *FOR many she will forever be the girl from 1961?s The Parent Trap and even Hayley Mills can?t quite believe she?s now 64.* The daughter of Sir John Mills, who splits her time between New York and London, says she?s thrilled she?s still breathing. ?I have an absolutely lovely life,? she tells The Lady magazine. ?I?m still alive, which is a good start, still working, surrounded by children, a grandson and the most wonderful man actor Firdous Bamji, 44 I could wish for.? Hayley, now starring in Wild At Heart, recalls listening to The Beatles? When I?m 64 in her youth. ?It sounded so old to me, she says. ?Now that I am 64 it seems little more than a number to me. ?Isn?t it nice to not be consumed with anxiety about that pimple on the end of your nose that seemed so important in your teenage years?? http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/186708/Hayley-Mills-is-happy-at-64

*I was at a used book store, going through the movie books as usual and came across this great book on actor Mickey Knox. Very fascinating reading, about an actor, forgotten by most.* *The Good, the Bad and the Dolce Vita: The Adventures of an Actor in Hollywood, Paris and Rome* by Mickey Knox. *From _Booklist_* Knox might have had an unremarkable career as a minor character actor in Hollywood, but the 1950s Hollywood blacklist of supposed Communist sympathizers snuffed out his American career. Lucky us, though, because that ill wind forced Knox to live a much more interesting life than he had planned as he moved to Italy, chased acting jobs in Europe, and branched out into other areas of the industry, such as translating scripts for spaghetti-western director Sergio Leone and crafting English dialogue to be dubbed into non-English-language films. Better still, he lived to make of his complicated life story a fascinating, highly readable, gossip-besotted memoir. *_From the back of the book_:* Born and raised in Brooklyn with a street fighter?s instinct and sharp Jewish wit, Mickey Knox leaves the army for the bright lights of Hollywood. But when the rise of McCarthyism puts an abrupt end to his hopes of working in American films, Knox debarks to France and Italy to work in European cinema. It turns out to be the best move of his life. This book?where every major film actor and writer of the last century appears?is a wonderful, gossipy history of European cinema as seen through the observant eye of Knox. From arguing with John Wayne, teaching Anna Magnani to articulate English, to fending off Zsa Zsa Gabor?s advances and getting lost in Italy with a hungry Orson Welles, Knox was in the midst of it all, watching with a dry smile and a witty comeback. Of the colorful cast of characters who have passed through his life?Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Ava Gardner, Anthony Quinn, Henry Fonda, Burt Reynolds, Sam Fuller, Elvis Presley, Gore Vidal?one lasting friendship runs throughout the text. That friend?Norman Mailer?writes a preface to ?a rare warrior of that rarely heroic world of stage and screen.? Black-and-white photographs are included.

*This is so cool. Click on the link for the pictures!* *Celebrate 'The Goonies' 25th Anniversary With The Collector's Edition DVD* By Perri Nemiroff Jul 18th 2010 Cinematical *Has it really been 25 years since Mikey and the gang found One Eyed Willy's treasure? So it has and even if that makes you feel as old as Willy himself, it still calls for a celebration. On November 2nd, Warner Home Video will release The Goonies 25th Anniversary Collector's Edition on DVD and Blu-ray.* It's a special edition, so of course it's going to cost you a hefty penny, but it's The Goonies we're talking about here; even if your family was facing foreclosure at the expense of a country club, it still might be worth the cash. DVD Active has all of the details in terms of special features and they're quite impressive ? for those who don't already own a copy of the film at least. Both versions come with commentary with director Richard Donner and the cast, a making of the movie documentary, the Cyndi Lauper music video "The Goonies 'R Good Enough," deleted scenes and the theatrical trailer. *In terms of non-digital specs, the set will come with _a new board game_, collective storyboard prints, a 1985 souvenir magazine and a reprint of a 2009 article with updates on the cast, producer Steven Spielberg and Donner.* As an obsessive fan of the film, I'm definitely tempted to drop some cash on this one, just to see the box sit on my shelf alone. The game, magazine and storyboard prints are appealing too, but let's face it, eventually they'll just end up in a drawer collecting dust. The box however is adorned with stellar new artwork guaranteed to give you chills every time you glance in its direction. But don't worry, the good old image of the gang on top of the gold and jewels is still preserved inside. As exciting as it may be, I think I'm going to have to take a pass on this on account of my junk drawer being too full. Is this Collector's Set going to find a place on your shelf? http://www.cinematical.com/2010/07/18/celebrate-the-goonies-25th-anniversary-with-the-collectors-ed/

Lucille Ball letters, awards to be sold at auction July 16, 2010 *LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Some of Lucille Ball's love letters and awards will be sold at auction after a judge ruled to block the sale but imposed a hurdle that the comedienne's daughter cannot overcome.* While Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert O'Brien agreed to block the sale Friday, he imposed a $250,000 bond that Lucie Arnaz Luckinbill would have to pay to get a restraining order issued. Her attorney, Ronald Palmieri, said the amount is too high and can't be met. "We won on a legal basis, and the judge took it away from us on an economic basis," Palmieri said. "That is very sad." Luckinbill is the daughter of Ball and first husband Desi Arnaz. She sought the return of some of the items after Susie Morton, the widow of Ball's second husband, Gary Morton, offered them for sale. Ball and Gary Morton were married until the time of the actress' death in 1989. He later married Susie Morton. She consigned several items to Heritage Auction Galleries, including a Rolls-Royce, some of the couple's love letters, photos and Ball's personal items. The items are scheduled to go on sale Saturday at an auction being conducted online and in Beverly Hills, Calif. Morton sued Luckinbill this week, seeking a judge's order allowing the sale to go forward. Luckinbill in turn sought the restraining order Friday. Through Palmieri, she had sought the return of the love letters and Ball's lifetime achievement awards, which she said would be donated to a museum honoring her mother. Heritage President Greg Rohan has said the auction house supported Susie Morton and had received documentation from her affirming her right to sell the items. Susie Morton's lawsuit claimed that Luckinbill had forfeited her right to the items after her mother's estate was distributed.

*House where Marilyn Monroe died hits market for $3.6 million* BY Nicole Carter DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER Friday, July 16th 2010 *The luxe Los Angeles home where Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe was found dead is up for sale.* The Spanish-style four-bedroom home, listed at $3.6 million, is located in the high-end Brentwood suburb and was the only home the blond bombshell ever owned, according to RealEstalker.com. The listing, which went up today on David Offer of Prudential California Realty's website, sparked instant reaction from potential buyers, as some were spotted waiting outside the gate to get a tour of the home today. Monroe bought the lush 23,000 square-foot property for $90,000 in 1962. She had been in the home, which she reportedly decked out in authentic Mexican d?cor, for only six months before she died of an alleged drug overdose at the age of 36, according to the site. Her body was found in her bedroom. The home is relatively modest for Hollywood's sexiest star: the secluded 2,624 square-foot, one-story home had only three bedrooms when Monroe moved in. Fan website Marilyn Monroe Memories points out that the actress never got around to swimming in the outdoor pool, though it was one of her favorite features of the house. Since Monroe's tragic death, the house itself has prompted a fair share of conspiracy theories regarding how she died. One of the more elaborate: when actress Veronica Hamel reportedly bought the home in 1972, she discovered a telephone tapping and eavesdropping system while remodeling, according to Hamel's IMDB.com biography. This ignited the far-fetched rumors that the Mafia may have been responsible for Monroe's death. The home was built in 1929 and still has much of its original details, but has been remodeled several times.
