I love the "AMC Select" program! It's a great program that provides an exciting and diverse selection of the best specialty films to the mainstream moviegoer that normally wouldn't enter a "Art House" theater! Also, at the AMC theaters in my area on Fri, Sat, Sun & Holidays, any showing before 12:00 Noon is only $5.00. The 3-D showing's of films are a little more around $7.50...better than $9.75 after 12:000 Noon! But, I still will pay over $7.00 for a film that does play at my local "Art House theater which AMC hasn't picked up.

*Film historian Peter Cowie's: _Joan Crawford: The Enduring Star_ (Rizzoli) will be published next week, on February 10. 2009.* *The 240-page coffee-table book features over 200 photos, many unseen until now.* *_From the Rizzoli press release_:* "A woman of remarkable versatility and compelling charisma, Crawford was arguably the first actor with whom the audience--men and women alike--sitting in the darkness of grand movie houses across the country could identify as one of their own, beset by the same troubles and driven by the same ambitions. Peter Cowie describes her appeal to the masses perfectly: '[H]er fans... saw in her broad-shouldered, smoldering, often trashy allure a transcendental version of their everyday _experience.'"_ *_Read the entire official Rizzoli press release_:* http://www.joancrawfordbest.com/cowiepress09.htm *_Early Reviews_:* *from the Turner Classic Movies website*: "Joan Crawford: The Enduring Star (Rizzoli) is the first visual book to reclaim her place in the canon of glamour. Crawford pioneered a new depth that had not been seen before in roles for women. Her domineering charisma gave audiences a new kind of heroine, laying the path for today?s actresses from Meryl Streep to Cate Blanchett. Women ? and many men ? identified with her in ways they never had before. Drawing from archives around the world and including more than a hundred photos unseen in the past fifty years, Joan Crawford is sure to reintroduce fans to this ultimate Hollywood legend." *_from the Village Voice_:* "The self-made glamour goddess DOES fully deserve the glossy treatment she's getting in _Joan Crawford: The Enduring Star_, a lush new Rizzoli book by Peter Cowie."

Aspect Ratio: "Love is a Many-Splendored Thing"
CelluloidKid replied to rkukan's topic in General Discussions
*Per Movie Database Aspect Ratio _Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing_ (1955) : 2.55 : 1* *& another website claims: Widescreen format aspect ratio: 1.35:1 ...!???!* *Unlike AMC or FMC, Turner Classic Movies presents many of its features in their original screen format (widescreen or full screen) whenever possible. (TCM considers the issue so important they occasionally run an informational short subject educating viewers as to why letterbox presentation of widescreen films is preferred, showing viewers just how much of the picture is missed when such a film is presented in the pan and scan format.)* *TCM also regularly presents widescreen presentations of films not available in the format on any home video release (one example being Columbia Pictures _The Trouble with Angels_ (1966)), indicating they have the clout to obtain their own widescreen masters of such films from studios.* *Does it matter!?* -

I love the film _Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice_ (1969)...I have a copy of DVD! But I never heard of a director's cut. It may have just been edited for TV.!? Not to mention, what an interesting cast...Natalie Wood, Robert Culp, Elliott Gould! The other film that I liked that was directed by Paul Mazursky, was _Harry and Tonto_ (1974)! Great film, & a great performance from Art Carney & Ellen Burstyn.

Films that you would like to see but are not offered on tcm
CelluloidKid replied to Stephen444's topic in General Discussions
*I wish TCM would get crazy, & try to get the rights to some films that have never ever been on VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, etc.* There are a lot of great unseen films that would play great on TCM underground! Like: _Inchon_ (originally called: Oh, Inchon) (1982)! I would love to see this film just out of curiosity! *_Per Wikipedia_:* _Inchon_ was shown at Cannes film festival but failed to interest any buyers despite a $250,000 publicity campaign.[5] The film eventually took in $5.2 million at the box office; however it cost $40.8 million, and some estimates have put the figure between $65 million and $104 million, which would make it one of the biggest flops of all time. Because the film did not have the backing of a major studio it is not often listed as an all-time box-office bomb. -

The 3-D was nothin gto jump up and shout about!! & Yes, I saw Jaws 3-D (1983) & Friday the 13th Part 3: 3D ...BOTH in theaters as a teenager, as well as a Reissue of _House of Wax_ (1953) in 3D, & to me the 3-D for _My Bloody Valentine_ (2009) was nothing new! Just a cheap gimmick to sell a remake!

Dean Parisot is set to direct a remake of Slap Shot for Universal Pictures. According to Variety, Peter Steinfeld is writing the screenplay, which will be based on the classic 1977 hokey comedy. The original film followed the exploits of a fading hokey coach (played by Paul Newman) who decides to turn his team into a group of brawling thugs to generate some interest in them. In recent years, the original film has spawned two direct-to-DVD sequels. But this new film will have no ties to those past projects. There is no set start date for the Slap Shot redo, but the Hanson brothers, who starred in the first film, will more than likely have a cameo.pix93796

LOL! Another lousy remake, With a lame 3-D gimmick to suck people into the theaters (Trust me I was one!), to fork over large sums of cash in these hard economic times for a film that is forgettable 5 minutes after you leave the theater.! I had some money left over on a AMC Gift Certificate (Thank G-D!), & well, I wasted it on this remake (Mainly for the 3-D!)! (Ticket prices were $9.50 after 12 Noon on a weekend for the 3-D showing!) The 3-D was just as lame as when they used the same gimmick for _Friday the 13th Part 3_: 3D, & _Jaws 3-D_ (1983)! (They are both still is laughable to this day!! ) *Nothing orginial, new or exciting...Trust me kids...stick with the orginial!!*
