  9. Man I love _Valley of the Dolls_ & the book too!!! Before her death, Susann planned a sequel to _Valley of the Dolls_. In 2001, author Rae Lawrence created _Shadow of the Dolls_, based on notes Susann left for the intended sequel. I love Jacqueline Susann's _Shadow of the Dolls_ to. I wish Hollywood would make this into a film! It would be interesting!

I for 1 am very excited to see Mr. Montalb?n's films!! I only wish _Madame X_ (1966) W./Lana Turner was included! *Important Schedule Change for Ricardo Montalban Tribute - Friday, January 23, 2009!* *In Honor of _Ricardo Montalban_, who died on January 14th, 2009, TCM will air a tribute to the actor on Friday, January 23, 2009 replacing the current scheduled programming with the following movies:* 7:30 AM Fiesta (?47) 9:30 AM Neptune?s Daughter (?49) 11:15 AM Latin Lovers (?53) 1:00 PM Border Incident (?49) 2:45 PM Battleground (?49) 4:45 PM Across the Wide Missouri (?51) 6:15 PM The Singing Nun (?66) *TCM REMEMBERS RICARDO MONTALBAN* *ALL TIMES ARE EASTERN - CHECK LOCAL SCHEDULE TIMES.* Best remembered as Mr. Roarke in the "Fantasy Island" TV Series, Ricardo Montalban started his career on Broadway and in Mexican films. In 1947, he signed a contract with MGM, and appeared in several movies as a singing and dancing "Latin Lover", often playing leading roles opposite Cyd Charisse ("Fiesta", "On an Island with You", "Mark of the Renegade"). He also had a few non-romantic roles, such as in "Battleground" (1949) and "Sayonara" (1957). Montalban started to appear regularly on TV in the mid '70s, in "Fantasy Island" of course (with Cyd Charisse guest starring in two episodes), but also as Khan in the original "Star Trek" Series. Ricardo Montalban also reprised the role of Khan in the second "Star Trek" movie (1982). Ricardo Montalb?n With Debbie Reynolds, Chad Everett, and Juanita Moore in _The Singing Nun_ (1966).
  13. Douglas Fairbanks Jr. was in: _Our Modern Maidens_ (1929) W./Joan Crawford, which BTW _Our Modern Maidens_ (1929) was Joan's last silent film, and the only movie to feature both Crawford and Fairbanks, Jr. Their characters are engaged in the movie; six weeks before shooting began, Crawford and Fairbanks, Jr. had announced their own real-life engagement, and were married afterward for four years. *NEW STAR: JOAN CRAWFORD!*
  14. _Be Kind Rewind_ (2008) was pure crap...a pure waste of money!! 1 of the "Worst" films of 2008!! I felt rip-offed and cheated after I spent $7.50 to see this film in theaters! Waste of space!
  15. *Karen Black is such a strange actress. I really like her style for some off beat reason she is very believable in all her roles, but man she can really go for the top at times.* *Very kooky and fun to watch. I just re-watched _Burnt Offerings_ (1976), & she gives such a borderline psycho performance. Nice, cool and calm one minute, & then then next, she lets it rip.* *I love her eyes. They are every expressive!* I have _Firecracker_ (2005) coming from Netflix! In March 2005, Karen Black received the Best Actress Award at the Fantasporto International Film Festival in Porto, Portugal, for her work in this critically-acclaimed Steve Balderson film. So this should be interesting to see since It never came to a theater here in the US. Karen again plays two roles, Sandra and Eleanor, just like in the film _Trilogy of Terror_ (1975). I also have _The Pyx_ (1973) coming from Netflix. THis should be interesting since Inever heard of it till I started research Miss. Black's career! Karen Black (born July 1, 1939) is an American actress, screenwriter, singer and songwriter. She is noted for films such as: _Five Easy Pieces_, _The Great Gatsby_ and _Nashville_ in a career that has spanned five decades. *_Karen Black's Best Films_:* _Easy Rider_ (1969) - Great film and cast! _Five Easy Pieces_ (1970) - Great cast! Karen Got an Oscar Nomination for: Best Actress in a Supporting Role! _The Great Gatsby_ (1974) Another great film, and book! _Airport 1975_ (1974) - "Fly the Plane Karen!!". LOL! _Trilogy of Terror_ (1975) - Gotta love the Zuni hunting fetish!! LOL! _The Day of the Locust_ (1975) - I love the book and the film! _Nashville_ (1975) - Great film..great song ("It Don't Worry Me"), great director...great cast..& Karen sings! _Burnt Offerings_ (1976) - Strange film...strange casting! _Capricorn One_ (1978) _Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean_ (1982) - Karen Should have gotten an Oscar Nod for Best Actress for her role as Joanne. Very heartbreaking! _House of 1000 Corpses_ (2003) - Mother Firefly - Great Casting from Rob Zombie. img src=http://www.moderntimes.co.il/files/pics/7523Karen%20Black.jpg>
  16. *Let's talk movies not politics!* I wish TCM played this today...!! *_Per Wikipedia _Wilson_ (1944):_* It won Academy Awards for Best Art Direction-Interior Decoration, Color (Wiard Ihnen, Thomas Little), Best Cinematography, Color, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Recording and Best Writing, Original Screenplay. [2] It was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Alexander Knox), Best Director, Best Effects, Special Effects, Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture and Best Picture. The film was notable for giving character actor Alexander Knox (in the title role) one of his few chances to play the lead in a film. Though a critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning film, Wilson is remembered for being a huge flop at the box office. It was a pet project of Darryl F. Zanuck's, who greatly admired Woodrow Wilson, and its failure upset him to the point that he forbade any of his employees to ever mention the film in his presence again. It is one of the very few financial flops to have won as many Oscars as it did.
  17. Some people were discussing Mickey Rourke after the film: _The Wrestler_ (2008) (Great film BTW!) & which films to watch of Mickey's since most were "Unfamiliar " with his work (I love him as an actor BTW, & congrats on his success!)...well here is what I recommended: _Mickey Rourke_ _Diner_ (1982) _The Pope of Greenwich Village_ _9? Weeks_ _Barfly_ (1987) W./Faye Dunaway! _White Sands_ Also: _Sin City_ (2005) _Rumble Fish_ (1983)
  18. Peter Lawford was in: _Hook, Line & Sinker_ (1969) W./Frank Sinatra, Which was directed by: George Marshall!! *NEW DIRECTOR: George Marshall!*
  19. *_Female on the Beach_ (1955) W./Joan Crawford & Jeff Chandler!*
  20. *PER WIKIPEDIA (I ALSO READ THE BOOK...GREAT BOOK BTW!!)* The scenes where Nicky stabs a man in the neck with a pen for insulting Sam and where Nicky gets drunk in the casino and hits Billy Sherbert in the face with a telephone are entirely fictional. On an interesting note, Nicky says to Sherbert, "What are you staring at, you bald-headed Jew prick?": this is one of Don Rickles' (Sherbert) trademark insults, although in this case, Joe Pesci (Nicky) says it to him rather than Rickles saying it to somebody else. The majority of the actual events took place in Kansas City, Missouri, even more so than Las Vegas. In the 1970s, the Kansas City mob was involved in a gangland war over control of the River Quay entertainment district, in which three buildings were bombed and several gangsters were killed. Police investigations into the mob took hold after Kansas City Boss Nick Civella was recorded discussing gambling bets on Super Bowl IV (where the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Minnesota Vikings). The gang war and investigation would lead to the end of mob control of the Stardust Casino, which was the basis for the film (although the Kansas City connections are minimized in the movie). The character of Frank Marino (played by Frank Vincent and based on Frank Cullotta) participates in the killing of the Santoro brothers. In reality, Frank Cullotta was not present and played no part in the beating of the Spilotro brothers (on whom the Santoro brothers were based), and only betrayed them by testifying against them about the M & M murders (as the 1962 murders of James Miraglia and Billy McCarthy in Chicago were called) when Anthony Spilotro ordered him killed over the phone, although Cullotta's testimony was not enough to convict Spilotro. Cullotta also has a cameo as Curly, one of Gaggi's hitmen near the end of the film. The character of John Nance, based on George Vandermark, is murdered in the film with two gunshots to the stomach and one to the head and left in open view. The real George Vandermark was murdered along with his drug addict son, Jeffrey, but his body was never found. Furthermore, Bill Allison (Nance's actor), is a former casino owner and served as a technical advisor for the film, along with Frank Cullota (who plays Curly, Nance's killer). In the film Artie Piscano, based on Kansas City Underboss Carl "Tuffy" DeLuna, dies of a heart attack during an FBI raid on his home. In reality, DeLuna was arrested, tried and sentenced to 30 years. He did in fact keep extensive cryptic notes hidden in his basement which, together with wiretaps, connected all the dots the FBI needed. He was released from prison in 1998 and died in Kansas City in 2008, the penultimate surviving defendant. The last defendant was Rosenthal himself, who died of a heart attack in October 2008. The Tangiers Casino, based on the Stardust Resort & Casino, is shown to be demolished at the end of the movie, whereas in real life, the Stardust Casino was not demolished until March 2007. In the movie, Robert De Niro's character, Sam "Ace" Rothstein, juggles on television. However, Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal, the real-life counterpart of Ace, says on his official website that he never did such a thing. The Spilotro Brothers were said to be brutally beaten with aluminum bats until they were unconscious in a basement in Bensenville, Illinois, and buried in a cornfield in Indiana according to testimony of Nick Calabrese in the Chicago Family Secrets Mob Trial. The place in the film where the bosses of the Chicago mob met to pick up and distribute their Las Vegas money was in a boarded up, out-of-business ARCO gas station on the southeast corner of Harlem Ave. and Division St. in Oak Park, IL. The "head in the vise" scene happens while Nicky is helping Sam in Vegas. In reality, the incident took place about 10 years before the setting of the film, and was the real reason why Spilotro became a 'made' man.
  21. *Sharon Stone plays Ace's wife, the self-obsessed, spoiled, devious and sly Ginger, a role that earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress!* + *BTW....._Casino_ (1995) is a really good film..not Marty's best ...BUT not a film to be missed. Sharon Stone nails it in her role as Ginger McKenna. I read an interview a loooong time ago W./James Woods who stated "Working W./Sharon Stone gave him a nosebleed!". I think Miss. Stone is a very talented and Under-Rated actress ...I think she is very similar to Grace Kelly.*
