MGM cancels James Bond's license to kill

*Bottom Line: James Bond?s Future Is Uncertain* July 8, 2010 Screen Rant by Kofi Outlaw *There?s a lot of hype about James Bond?s future in light of MGM?s bankruptcy. Time to stop all the rumors and arguments and just state the facts: there is no answer right now.* Ok, so enough is enough. In the last few weeks there?s been a lot of back and forth and back again about the James Bond franchise and its immediate future in light of the ongoing MGM bankruptcy fiasco. A lot of Websites (Screen Rant included) have been reporting what they allege is the latest ?news? or ?updates? about where the Bond franchise is and where it will be in the near future ? but it?s all just talk. The bottom line is this: nobody really knows nothing about Bond?s future in the movie business. Not the studio, or the people involved with the films ? certainly not any reporters or ?trusted sources.? Let?s take a step back from all the hype for a second and retrace our steps. At the start of this year it was business as usual: The next Bond film (tentatively titled Bond 23 until a catchier name is selected) was on schedule. We heard that Frost/Nixon writer Peter Morgan was working on a ?shocking? new Bond script, and when you hear about an Oscar-nominated writer cooking up a thrilling script in a famous action franchise, you have reason to be excited. Next, we heard that Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes was getting involved with Bond 23 ? either as the director or a consultant ? and again, we had good reason to be enthused. James Bond as envisioned by Oscar-caliber writers and directors? YES PLEASE! After that you had the next logical step in James Bond rumoring: who the new Bond girl and villain would be. We heard names like Olivia Wilde and Frieda Pinto tossed around as possible Bond girls, and even heard that Sam Mendes? on-again, off-again girlfriend, actress Rachel Weisz, might play a major Bond villain. Admittedly these were just RUMORS, but they were the usual sort of whisper-round-the-water-cooler fun that comes with the development of any Bond film. As spring transitioned into summer, things took a bad turn. We here at Screen Rant have been keeping careful tabs on the MGM bankruptcy fiasco for a long time, and were always wary of how the studio?s breakdown would affect films like The Hobbit and James Bond ? so it was more a confirmation of our fears than a shocking revelation when it was announced that Bond 23 is being delayed for the time being, until MGM sorts itself out. And that?s where the story ends. Period. . -
By Carl Bagh July 8, 2010 *MGM cancels James Bond's license to kill* *James Bond, who overpowered a number of villains, has finally been tamed not by a damsel but by piling debts at MGM studio. The movie studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has postponed the making of the film due to financial problems.* The new James Bond flick starring Daniel Craig was scheduled for release by 2012. The production had also roped in Oscar winning director Sam Mendes to be part of the project. MGM is short of any gadget developed by Q - Major Boothroyd to counter a $3.7 billion debt. Its hedge fund owners Anchorage Advisors and Highland Capital Management, are ignoring an acquisition offer from Time Warner Inc. and a restructuring plan backed by Chief Executive Stephen Cooper, to pump-up the studio with a $1-billion investment. Rather, the owners are considering a strategic partnership with Summit Entertainment, the independent studio behind the "Twilight" movies, and production and financing company Spyglass Entertainment, as reported by Los Angeles Times in May. Presently the future of James Bond movie seems to be in a state of limbo as attested by the production company EON in a statement: "We do not know when development will resume and cannot comment further at this stage." Hope Bond could stand up to the famous dialogue: "You carry a 00 number, it means you have License to kill, not GET killed!"

*_Airplane!_ (1980) - trivia* One of the special thanks in the end credits is Argon Oil Company, a fictional company in another ZAZ movie _Kentucky Fried Movie_. Argon is actually an elemental gas. Deliberate joke, but not one everyone immediately picks up on: Throughout the entire movie when the outside of the plane is shown the sound heard is one of a propeller driven aircraft, yet the one pictured is a jet. Otto the autopilot resided in Jerry Zucker's garage after making the movie, but by 1997 had disintegrated and was thrown out. One of the jobs in the end credits is magic consultant. Charles Dickens' name and his book "A Tale Of Two Cities" appears in the end credits. Director Jim Abrahams has two roles in this movie. The first role was that of the bicycle rider that yells back at Kramer after Kramer hits him on the road. He also plays a role as a solicitor at the airport. He is the one who pauses after seeing how Kramer is treating the other solictors. the end, the plane hits a radio station antenna. The radio station is WZAZ. That's because this was a Zucker Abrams Zucker movie. Film debut of Julie Hagerty. The film cost $3.5 million and only took 34 days to make. Despite featuring a spoof of the beach scene of _From Here to Eternity_ (1953), none of the three directors had actually seen the original film. The music for the love scenes with Elaine and Ted was taken from _The Hunters_ (1958) where Robert Mitchum plays a fighter pilot and May Britt his lover
