My all time favorite films of The Coen brothers are: _Raising Arizona_ (Which was filmed here in Phoenix, Az!)... _No Country for Old Men_ ......_The Hudsucker Proxy_ ..... _Blood Simple_ ..._Fargo_ & _Crimewave_. The only film I never cared for was: _Intolerable Cruelty_ The 1 Coen Brothers film that was so Under-Rated: _The Ladykillers_. The only film that I actually liked Tom Hanks in. If U haven't seen the film "_Crimewave_" (They wrote the screenplay) & you if like film Noir, you will love this. Bruce Campbell gives a great preformance! _*Filmography* :_ Blood Simple (1984) Crimewave (1984) Raising Arizona (1987) Miller's Crossing (1990) Barton Fink (1991) The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) Fargo (1996) The Big Lebowski (1998) O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) The Man Who Wasn't There (2001) Intolerable Cruelty (2003) The Ladykillers (2004) Paris, je t'aime (2006) - segment: "Tuileries" No Country for Old Men (2007) To Each His Own Cinema (2007) - segment: "TBA" Burn After Reading (2008) A Serious Man (TBA) Hail Caesar (TBA) _*Joel and Ethan Coen as writer:_* _Crimewave_ (Sam Raimi, 1985) also known as Broken Hearts and Noses, also known as The XYZ Murders *_Ethan Coen as writer:_* _The Naked Man_ (J. Very interesting film. I hope it makes it onto DVD! *_Violent Saturday_ (1955)* *Directed by:* *Richard Fleischer.* *Stars: Victor Mature, Richard Egan, Lee Marvin, Stephen McNally & Ernest Borgnine.* *Filmed in BIsbee, Arizona.* *Very interesting 'film noir"!!!!.* 1 of my all time Film Noir films I love is: _Violent Saturday_ (1955). Has anyone seen it? Great film! The plot is simple: A number of otherwise insignificant small-town stories erupt into drama when a gang of hoodlums decides to rob the local bank. What is sad is I never have seen this film play on TCM, oh it does pop up on AMC every now and then. I saw "_Violent Saturday_" once on the big screen, in all places, Bisbee, Arizona ("_Violent Saturday_" was filmed on location in Bisbee, Arizona) & then I caught this (W./all the horrid commercials!) on AMC. I have never been able to find this film on VHS or Laserdisc. Mabey some film company will buy the rights and place it on DVD!?. *In a 2008 article, the Village Voice called it "_the reigning king of Southwester noir_." The New York Press said "Violent Saturday seems rooted in tradition, but as an exciting pulp story with a profound center, it manages to break all the rules* Contrary to popular cliches, a film noir doesn't have to be in set on the mean, rain-slicked backstreets of a cramped, malevolent city, nor does it even have to be in black-and-white ("noir" is really a world-view than a palette). And although purists may argue otherwise, a movie need not have been produced during the tumultuous years of WWII and its immediate aftermath to be considered a true "noir." Case in point: Richard Fleischer's _Violent Saturday_, a brightly colored, black-hearted look at crime and the American character from 1955. _This rarely seen pulp masterpiece was not only shot in blazing DeLuxe Color and ultra-wide CinemaScope, it's set in a seemingly idyllic desert mining town, and most of it unfolds in bright, broad daylight -- the better to see the corruption festering just below the happy surface._ Noir? You bet. - TV Guide.

I'm still trying to find out if there was any connection between "_Johnny Allegro_" & "_Gilda_"! Several lines connected both films!

I really enjoyed the audio commentary by author Foster Hirsch! I had to listen to the commentary at least 2xs to make sure I didn't miss anything. Very fascinating & informative!! The other thing I noticed W./the "_Moontide_" DVD, unlike previous Fox FIlm Noir DVD's they have also stopped including the paper insert with liner notes for the picture. Since buying "_Moontide_" I rented Jean Gabin's _"Port of Shadows_". Another great film noir!

*I have the following question in the "General Discussions"....* *Was "Johnny Allegro" (1949) & Sequel to "Gilda" (1946)..??!??!.* http://forums.tcm.com/jive/tcm/thread.jspa?threadID=134921&tstart=0 *You Shoud also Join Me there as well!* I just watched "Johnny Allegro" today (09/16/2008) W./George Raft! Good movie, but it left a interesting question bouncing through my head long after the credits rolled & I went on with my day! As anyone else seen: _Johnny Allegro_??! "Johnny Allegro" was a good little thriller. Kept me on the edge of my seat. I love George Raft & I was really pleased that I got to see this film which I believe was never placed on VHS! Well, Anyways here is where my questions comes into play...at least 2Xs in the film...the character Morgan Vallin (George Macready) (Also, George Macready was Ballin Mundson in "Gilda"!) stated: the name Gilda (2Xs!) and also there was a sentence (If I remember correctly?!) where he mentioned "South American" & in the same sentence he stated "Gilda left me there."?! Strange! Even my partner noticed it!!!

I have this bad habit when ever I watch a film I always look for the product! Sorry Capuchin I dug aroudn the internet, looked over several films books & I can't find a mention of "Sunlight" Savon (soap) anywhere!? Who Knows I could be wrong!? :lo) *_Per Wikipedia:_* Possibly the first film to feature product placement was _Wings_ (released in 1927), the first film to win the Oscar for Best Picture. It contained a plug for Hershey's chocolate. Another early example in film occurs in the 1946 film _It's a Wonderful Life_ by Frank Capra where a young boy with aspirations to be an explorer displays a prominent copy of National Geographic. Another is in the 1949 film _Love Happy_, in which Harpo Marx cavorts on a rooftop among various billboards and at one point escapes from the villains on the old Mobil logo, the "Flying Red Horse". *Some filmmakers have responded to product placement by creating fictional products that frequently appear in the movies they make. Some examples:* *(This is fun to spot to!!)* Kevin Smith - Nails Cigarettes, Mooby Corporation, Chewlees Gum, Discreeto Burritos Quentin Tarantino - Fruite Brute, Red Apple Cigarettes, Big Kahuna Burger, Jack Rabbit Slim's Restaurants Robert Rodriguez - Chango Beer Pixar Animation Studios - Pizza Planet, Dinoco Warner Brothers - Acme Corporation Coen Brothers - Dapper Dan Hair Wax

*I was just wondering if anyone has seen the biographical film film _Wilson_ from 1944...???* *If U have what did U think of the film? Was the film good? Or was it as bad as I have heard? I wonder why this film hasn't seen seen the light of day on DVD!?* *I have been hitting all my Mom & Pop Video stores & I can't seem to find a a copy to rent or even find a used VHS copy to buy. & out here in Phoenix, Arizona we don't get the Fox Movie Channel.* *_Per Wikipedia:_* It won Academy Awards for Best Art Direction-Interior Decoration, Color, Best Cinematography, Color, Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Recording and Best Writing, Original Screenplay. It was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Alexander Knox), Best Director, Best Effects, Special Effects, Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture and Best Picture. The film was notable for giving character actor Alexander Knox (in the title role) one of his few chances to play the lead in a film. Though a critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning film, Wilson is remembered for being a huge flop at the box office. It was a pet project of Darryl F. Zanuck's, who greatly admired Woodrow Wilson, and its failure upset him to the point that he forbade any of his employees to ever mention the film in his presence again. It is one of the very few financial flops to have won as many Oscars as it did. *However, the film was not totally forgotten - it is now regularly shown on cable television, especially on Fox Movie Channel, but, as of 2008, has not yet been issued on DVD.*

*I'm reading this really great book on Robert Mitchum. The book is called: _Robert Mitchum: baby I Don t Care_ by Lee Server. As a dedicated fan of Robert Mitchum, I was happy to see a full-scale biography available at last. It does an excellent job of cataloging Mitchum's films and acting methodology. Great book. Very interesting!* *_TRIVIA:_* Was one of four actors (with Jack Nicholson, Bette Davis, and Faye Dunaway) to have two villainous roles ranked in the American Film Institute's 100 years of The Greatest Heroes and Villains, as Max Cady in Cape Fear (1962) at #28 and as Reverend Harry Powell in The Night of the Hunter (1955) at #29.
