  3. *I'm a film fan, but man this would push my limits! Don't know about all my movie friends out there LOL!!* *Bizarre!* *Honestly I would try this! I think I should try and enter!* *I would attempt this!! .LOL.....I don't know about the rest of you! Share Your Thoughts. Please let us discuss!?* *Netflix to Help Set Movie-Watching World Record in Times Square* *Between October 2nd and 7th, 2008, eight competitors will attempt to cast the new Guinness World Record for most consecutive hours spent watching movies right in the middle of Times Sqaure, and only one will walk away with the title*. *Oh, and a lifetime subscription to sponsor Netflix. And the inaugural "Popcorn Bowl" trophy. Not to mention $10,000 in cash (which hopefully won't be awarded right in the middle of Times Square).* *Ashish Sharma happens to hold the current record of 120 hours and 23 minutes (OMG!), so he'll be traveling from Mathura, India to Manhattan in order to keep that title amidst former champions, and even rookies -- yes, anyone who goes to the proper Facebook page can follow the rules and submit their video in order to win a chance to participate. Contestants will watch 56 movies straight (titles TBD), with ten-minute breaks in between, and medical professionals will apparently ensure that those competing are actually "watching" as opposed to "staring" at the screen.* (Me, I'll be the one trying to set the world record for most time spent watching the watchers. Take that, Guinness!) Thanks William Goss Sep 16th 2008 Cinematical *...................................................................* (andPOP) - This October, Netflix will be hosting the Netflix Movie Watching World Championships in New York City to see who can sit through 121 hours of movies, and beat the previous Guinness World Record of 120 hours and 23 minutes. The movie watching marathon will begin on October 2, 2008 in New York?s Times Square and is set to finish five days later on October 7. The winner of the competition will win a $10,000 cash prize, a lifetime subscription to Netflix and the first-ever Popcorn Bowl trophy. The previous world record holder, Ashish Sharma of Mathura, India, will be competing in the event to defend his title. Sharma will be competing against other endurance champions, including Claudia Wavra of Germany and Suresh Joachim, a Canadian of Sri Lankan descent, who holds 32 Guinness World Records. The general population will be given an opportunity to compete in the event through submissions of video auditions to a special Facebook group on the social networking site. *Guinness World Records rules states contestants much watch films non-stop without averting their eyes from the screen. Competitors will be given 10 minutes between each movie to refresh themselves. Eating, drinking, standing and stretching are allowed as long as eyes are on the screen, according to the press release.* *This is soooooo strange! But sounds like fun!*
  4. I love _One, Two, Three_ ... Coca-Cola and the Cold War gotta love it! Frantic comedy going full blast. James Cagney was at his best!! What is kind of cool about _One, Two, Three_ is that the film is almost time captured in a bottle with many events of the Cold War that are mentioned, such as the Berlin Airlift, and the Space Race; the movie even presages the future Cuban Missile Crisis. A very fun film of a long ago era! _Peripetchikoff:_ We have emergency meeting with Swiss Trade Delegation. They send us twenty car-loads of cheese. Totally unacceptable... full of holes.
  5. *I just watched "_Johnny Allegro_" today (09/16/2008) W./George Raft! Good movie, but it left a interesting question bouncing through my head long after the credits rolled & I went on with my day!* As anyone else seen: _Johnny Allegro_??! "_Johnny Allegro_" was a good little thriller. Kept me on the edge of my seat. I love George Raft & I was really pleased that I got to see this film which I believe was never placed on VHS! Well, Anyways here is where my questions comes into play...at least 2Xs in the film...the character Morgan Vallin (George Macready) (Also, George Macready was Ballin Mundson in "Gilda"!) stated: the name Gilda (2Xs!) and also there was a sentence (If I remember correctly?!) where he mentioned "South American" & in the same sentence he stated "Gilda left me there."?! Anyways.... _Johnny Allegro_ was a good little "B" picture...Some great lines, tight little plot, some neat twist and turns, and of course the blonde femme fatale Glenda Chapman (Nina Foch)!
  6. Jackie Cooper was in _Treasure Island_ (1934) W./Wallace Beery! *NEW STAR: Wallace Beery!*
  7. You are not alone here....I like Gus Van Sant to, but I hated _My Own Private Idaho_ & _Even Cowgirls Get The Blues_ . I saw both in theater (I like Gus as a director so I will see his films!) but I thought both of these were a just a waste of space. They did nothing for his career, or the career of the cast and crew involved for that matter! _My Own Private Idaho_ did nothing to show that Keanu Reeves could act. I never thought he could act & thisfilms proves it. River Phoenix however does a stand out job! *_Gus Van Sant's Worst Films_:* My Own Private Idaho (1991) Even Cowgirls Get The Blues (1993) Finding Forrester (2000) Last Days (2005) Elephant (2003) *_Gus Van Sant's Best Films_:* _Mala Noche_ (1985) _Drugstore Cowboy_ (1989) - Matt Dillon should have been looked at for an Oscar Nod. _To Die For_ (1995) - 1 rare film where Nicole Kidman actually showed she could act. Nice Ms. Kidman won a Golden Globe Award for her performance. SHe should have gotten an Oscar Nod to. _Good Will Hunting_ (1997) Excellent film! _Gerry_ (2002) - written by and starring Matt Damon and Casey Affleck. It was shot in a semi-improvised style. Very interesting character study. _Paranoid Park_ (2007) - The story revolves around a teenage skateboarder who accidentally kills a security guard. Very sad film. Very real to!

  9. *Well I was at my Mom & Pop Video store on 09/16/2008, & found a long lost French Gay Film called: _Johan_ (1976). Well being the film geek I am I quickly grabbed the film for rental.* *I always love to discover new films that I:* *A) Never Heard of* * That disappear into the vaults only to come out years later!* *As soon as I watch it this eve, I will give my review!* *From not only what the back of the DVD stated, but here is some additional info I found on the film:* _JOHAN_, a gay cinema cult classic, was screened at the 1976 Cannes Film Festival before disappearing in a whirl of censorship. This new release presents the complete, Un-Edited story of a young man awaiting his lover's release from prison, and the many erotic encounters he seeks out in the meantime. Phillippe Vallois directs this sexually explicit film that was too hot for French audiences when it was first released in 1976. *_From The Back of The DVD:_* A French Classic, Complete and Unseen Since 1976. It's the 70s and the look of love is retro. As his imprisoned lover Johan awaits sentencing, filmmaker Phillipe Vallois attempts to recreate their passionate affair with a series of other beautiful Parisian men. Here the film becomes a meditation on spontaneous, unbridled sensuality and interracial romance. Originally screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 1976, it was then given an X rating by French government and soon disappeared from the cinema world. Edited cuts emerged now and then but now, thanks to a more modern society, the complete, and unedited version, can be shown. From a fresh master, with new subtitles Johan comes back from the past to combine its mastery of cinema-verte with a frank and unapologetic eroticism. A piece of gay cinema history that is a must for any film collector and any fan of classic movies. *_Johan_ (1976)* Director: Philippe Vallois Writers: Laurent Olivier (dialogue) & Philippe Vallois (dialogue) *_Also Known As (AKA)_* Johan - Mein Sommer '75 Germany (TV title) Johan - Mon ?t? 75 France Johan, carnet intime homosexuel France Johann - Mein Sommer '75 East Germany Journal intime homosexuel d'un ?t? 75 France (subtitle
