  10. My earliest theater experiences were funny! I grew up on Air Force Bases. (Both my parents were in the Air Force) ...anyways ..I remember having to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance before the start of the show, & most movies were about a $1.00. You always got a box of popcorn and soda for around $1.00 to. Most films were only shown for 1 week run & then move on. I remember my mom would drop me off in the afternoon, and I would see 1 or 2 movies for for about $2.00. LOL. The 1st time I saw "Star Wars" was off the base in a German movie theater. I remember being 5 and the whole film was dubbed in German with English Subtitles at the bottom. For the longest time, till I came to America I thought Star Wars was this strange Nazi/Spy film W./a Sci-Fi setting. My mother always talked about how when she saw "Jaws" on the big screen it was in a wrap around style theater so you felt like you were in the water. Or when she saw _Earthquake_ it was done in "Sensurround" so the whole theater shook etc. Man I wish they would do "Sensurround" again!

  13. I posted this in "Hot Topics" to! *September 11, 2008* *Online retailer Amazon.com has pulled out their price-trimming scissors again, shaving a few more dollars off The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration Blu-ray Disc set.* *When Amazon first listed the highly sought after set a few months ago, the price was just under $100, or roughly 33% off the $124.99 list price which is standard for Amazon pricing.* *Slowly but surely Amazon has trimmed a dollar here and a dollar there off the pre-order price approaching the set's September 23 release.* *The latest, and our guess is last price cut brings the total for all three remastered Godfather films on Blu-ray down to a mere $61.95, or 50% off the original list price. That's an offer you can't refuse.* *Click here to pre-order The Godfather - The Coppola Restoration Set on Blu-ray for $61.95 from Amazon.com.*
  14. *Trivia for* *Trouble in Paradise (1932)* *The movie was not approved for re-issue in 1935 when the Production Code was being rigorously enforced.* *This film was selected to the National Film Registry, Library of Congress, in 1991* *This movie was popular both with critics and with audiences, but was made before the enforcement of the production code. After 1935, it was withdrawn from circulation and was not seen again until 1968. The film was never available on videocassette and only became available on DVD in 2003.* *One of over 700 Paramount Productions, filmed between 1929 and 1949, which were sold to MCA/Universal in 1958 for television distribution, and have been owned and controlled by Universal ever since.* Thanks, Movie Database!
  15. The Marilyn Files At Frank Sinatra?s suggestion, Marilyn Monroe kept her life inside two filing cabinets?letters, invoices, financial records, and the mementos that meant the most to her. After her tragic death, in 1962, at the age of 36, the cabinets, together with an assortment of jewels, fur coats, and other personal belongings, were stashed away by the actress?s business manager, Inez Melson. This secret trove would remain virtually unknown to the world for more than four decades, until photographer Mark Anderson began an epic two-year project of documenting it. His photographs, made public for the first time, offer new insights into the life of Hollywood?s most iconic figure. WEB EXCLUSIVE September 2, 2008 http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/marilyn/marilyn
  16. I loved the use of lights and shadows. It gave the film a heavy feeling. It's an absorbing piece, the gothic elements of which are more effective for their restraint. The production values, the costuming and so forth, are immaculate, and the whole thing looks great. How come even Vincent Price didn't get an Oscar nod is beyond me!??!? *Very strange film!* *I also loved the font they used in the opening credits!*
  17. Lionel Barrymore was in _Grand Hotel_ W./Joan Crawford! NEW STAR: Joan Crawford!

  21. What I think is most interesting about _House on Haunted Hill_ (1959), that it would be the last of only five films for Julie Mitchum, the sister of Robert Mitchum. *Julie (Annette) Mitchum (1914-2003)*
