  11. *_Inchon_ (originally called: _Oh, Inchon_ ) (1982) directed by Terence Young about the Battle of Incheon during the Korean War. Stars: Laurence Olivier, Jacqueline Bisset & Ben Gazzara* *_PER WIKIPEDIA:_* *One of the major financial backers of Inchon was the Unification Church. Sun Myung Moon, the church's founder, was a "special advisor" to the film. It opened in the United States and received generally bad reviews. Since that time it has sometimes been cited as one of the worst movies ever made. It closed after a few weeks (at a great financial loss) and was never shown publicly again, nor has it been released on videotape or DVD.* *I'm a huge film buff! Big! I'm always on the look-out for the elusive lost film that no one else seems to want to see, & _Inchon_ is just one of those films!* *Has anyone ever seen this film!? What did you think!?? Is it as bad as I have read about?* *I wonder if it would ever see the light of day!* _Per Wikipedia:_ _Reaction_ Inchon was shown at Cannes film festival but failed to interest any buyers despite a $250,000 publicity campaign. Inchon would end up costing $40.8 million (Some estimates have put the figure between $65 million and $104 million, which would make it one of the biggest flops of all time). The film took just $5.2 million at the box office, and was never officially released on video or DVD. Because the film did not have the backing of a major studio it is not often listed as an all-time box-office bomb. In 2000, Reason magazine, while calling it a "bomb" and a "didactic dud", cited Inchon as an early example of a major film critical of communism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inchon_(film)

  14. Luckily I only rented this from Netflix Online -- it's a HORRENDOUS transfer. The image is 4 x 3 and not enhanced for Widescreen Televisions (What major labels release panned-and-scanned-only DVDs anymore?). It also looks like it was transferred from a VHS Copy. The picture itsellf is grainy & the color looks washed out! The audio is Dolby 2 Channel and sounds quite flat. I haven't seen this film since it was released in a theater waaaaaaaayyy back in 1981. LOL! When your a kid and see a film like this you believe it's the coolest thing on planet earth. So, when I heard it was coming to DVD, I was really excited. Since the fims you love as a kid still hold true in your adult years....Boy I was wrong! The film is slow moving, the voice dubbing is so noticeable & it almost takes 45 minutes for Klinton Spilsbury (The Lone Ranger / John Reid) just to put on the mask and save the day! The Legend of the Lone Ranger (1981) When the young Texas Ranger, John Ried, is the sole survivor of an ambush arranged by the militaristic outlaw leader, Butch Cabendich, he is rescued by an old childhood Comanche friend, Tonto. When he recovers from his wounds, he dedicates his life to fighting the evil that Cabendich represents. That is the basic plot. Like my partner said (& Yes, we are both familier W./the story of the Lone Ranger!) it's "Batman" set in the Old West! LOL! What a silly film. Doesn't hold up at all! It's good for a look just to see Christopher Lloyd as Maj. Bartholomew 'Butch' Cavendish & Jason Robards as President Ulysses S. Grant! Also interesting to see Klinton Spilsbury in his 1 and only film role! What is funny, but sad, Klinton Spilsbury's voice was dubbed by James Keach. I wonder if the "Orginial" audio track still survives?! ((For the others, see Andie McDowell in _Greystoke_ and Harvey Keitel in _Saturn 3_.) What is sad is that when this movie came out the filmmakers took out a court injunction against Clayton Moore to prevent him from wearing the mask in public (appearances, conventions, etc.) as it would interfere with the new film. _Per Wikipedia:_ The film was released to massive publicity in 1981 and did poorly. Box office receipts were far short of the amount needed to recoup the costs of the film, and critical reviews were almost unanimously negative. This movie was such a huge box-office bomb that American investors had to salvage Lew Grade's ITC by purchasing its remaining stock and then reorganizing the company as part of the newly-formed Tri-Star Pictures Interesting side note to the film, is that the picture was directed and photographed by two of the all-time great cinematographers, William A. Fraker and Laszlo Kovacs! *_Awards and nominations_* _Golden Raspberry Awards_ Won: Worst Actor (Klinton Spilsbury) Won: Worst New Star (Klinton Spilsbury) Won: Worst Musical Score Nominated: Worst Picture Nominated: Worst "Original" Song (The Man in the Mask)
