You should check out the film "_Man of a Thousand Faces_" (1957) W./James Cagney as Lon Chaney. Very interesting film. James Cagney showed he could do more than just be a gangster. Loose biography of actor Lon Chaney. Growing up with deaf parents, he learns what it is like to be different. As an actor, he puts that knowledge (together with lots of make-up and talent) to use playing a variety of strange, unusual characters, adopting their characteristics so thoroughly as to be called the Man of a Thousand Faces

*5 Things You Didn't Know About Steve McQueen* *By Ryan Murphy* *Entertainment Correspondent - Every other Sunday* Known as the King of Cool, few actors have ever exuded the self-possessed sang-froid of Steve McQueen. The award-winning action star was the highest paid actor of the 1960s, thanks to a succession of hits including _The Magnificent Seven_, The Great Escape, _The Thomas Crown Affair_, and _Bullitt_. Every bit the maverick he played on screen, Steve McQueen lived fast and tragically died far too young. He was also an adrenaline junkie who consistently put his life on the line in the pursuit of his passions. *Here are five other things you probably didn't know about this Hollywood legend.* *1- McQueen's break came via Sammy Davis, Jr.'s slip-up* By 1959, McQueen was fast on his way to becoming a Hollywood nonentity. Despite his promising start on Broadway, the Indiana-native squandered his talent in films like _The Blob_, in which he shared the screen with an omnivorous lump of jelly. That's when serendipity finally kicked in. At that time, Frank Sinatra was beginning production at the time on a film called _Never So Few_, in which he and fellow Rat Packers Peter Lawford and Sammy Davis Jr. were to play O.S.S. operatives. Cast and crew were ready to go when Davis committed a career-threatening gaff. Speaking on a Chicago radio broadcast, Davis made the mistake of saying, "I love Frank, but I think I'm bigger than he is." The perceived slight drew Sinatra into a fit of anger, and within hours Davis had been dropped from the cast and removed from Sinatra's Christmas card list. In the days that followed, McQueen's agent managed to get his client the role of operative Cpl. Bill Ringa. The physical, wisecracking role was perfect for McQueen, and he used the part to launch himself into stardom. McQueen received only $25,000 for the role (compared to the $75,000 that had been promised to Davis), but he came away with a three-picture deal and a taste of things to come. *2- McQueen was on Charles Manson's hit list* McQueen made a career out of getting under people's collars. He went through friends the way some people go through tissues, successfully alienated all three of his wives, and once threatened a studio exec with a chainsaw. So it's hardly surprising then that some people wanted him dead. On November 6, 1969, it was revealed that McQueen had joined fellow celebrities Richard Burton, Tom Jones and Frank Sinatra on Charles Manson's so-called "death list." The list was an informal compilation of everyone the hippie cult leader had a personal vendetta against. McQueen had incurred Manson's wrath simply because he failed to commission a script that he had sent to his production studio in 1968. McQueen was understandably upset about becoming one of Manson's targets, and from that point forward he kept a handgun in his car's glove compartment. It was luck, however, and not the gun that eventually saved his life. McQueen had been invited to a party by fellow actor Sharon Tate on August 8, 1969, at her house on Cielo Drive. At the last minute, he chose to go on a date instead, and in doing so narrowly missed being involved in one of the most high-profile homicide cases of the century. That night four members of Manson's "Family" snuck into the house and brutally murdered Jay Sebring, coffee heiress Gibby Folger, Gibby's boyfriend Voytek Frykowski, Steven Parent, and Tate and her unborn baby. Had McQueen been present, he may have suffered the same grim fate. McQueen was also on Richard Nixon's infamous _Enemies List_. Bandito had raised the President's ire when he suggested he was planning to attend Martin Luther King's 1963 Washington march. McQueen never ended up participating, but the FBI took an obsessive interest in his career from that point on. *3- McQueen inspired a Rolex watch* Despite favoring simple T-shirts and jeans, McQueen was something of a fashion icon. As a matter of fact, Bandito even had a Rolex named in his honor. Rugged, but sophisticated, the Steve McQueen Rolex was a self-winding stainless steel calendar wristwatch that measures 38 mm in diameter. McQueen, however, wasn't really much of a Rolex man. The timepiece he truly favored was the TAG Heuer Monaco, which he wore during the filming of 1971's _Le Mans_. In fact, McQueen made the revolutionary square-shaped watch so popular that it was re-released in the 1990s. *4- McQueen was rumored to be bisexual* Despite being a noted ladies man, vicious rumors spread throughout Hollywood in the mid-60s that Bandito, as he was also known, was homosexual. McQueen vehemently denied the accusations, threatening bodily harm against those who dared question his masculinity. If McQueen used women as beards, he certainly went through a lot of them. _The Towering Inferno_ star was linked at one time or another to actresses Faye Dunaway, Mamie Van Doren, Ann-Margret, Judy Carne, Jacqueline Bisset, and Sharon Tate. He was also married three times, most notably to Ali MacGraw, whom he famously romanced on the set of _The Getaway_. Complicating matters was the fact that MacGraw was married at the time to Paramount head Robert Evans. The affair is said to have cost her leading roles in _The Great Gatsby_ and Chinatown, and to have earned McQueen a lifelong enemy. Nonetheless, the high profile couple married, and stayed together from 1973 until their divorce in 1978. *5- McQueen inspired a Ford Mustang* A former professional mechanic, McQueen was always at home behind the wheel. _The Le Mans_ star raced against Mario Andretti in the 12 Hours of Sebring international endurance race, and represented Team USA at the International Six Day Endurance motorcycle trials in East Germany. Some of his most memorable films included chase scenes as well, like Bullitt, in which he flew through the streets of San Francisco. Ford was banking on the indelibility of that image when they released the Mustang Bullitt GT in 2001. Inspired by the '68 Mustang Fastback McQueen drove in _Bullitt_, the Mustang Bullitt GT featured modifications such as side scoops, 17-inch aluminum wheels and a lowered suspension. All that and its 265-horsepower engine would make even Bandito proud. At the time, Ford Division President Jim O'Connor said, "The movie has some of the greatest car-chase scenes ever filmed... We have taken some of the passion from the Hollywood film and put it into an exciting new car." McQueen's heirs worked closely with Ford on the project to create an automobile that was true to his spirit. McQueen's performance in Bullitt was feted by Ford in 1997 as well, when the company's European division used digitally restored images of the actor to launch its new Puma. According to Ford, McQueen was the ideal spokesman, since he represented the car's exhilarating style and daring personality. *Thanks,* *AskMen - Aug 14, 2008* null
