  11. I WILL JUST REPEAT MYSELF: A totall OBSCURE Movie that NOBODY Has Seen: Letty Lynton from MGM (1932) Letty is not widely available today because of a court case that MGM lost in 1936. Explains Mark Litwak on the filmmaking.com site: In Sheldon v. Metro-Goldwyn Pictures Corp., MGM attempted to secure the movie rights to Edward Sheldon's copyrighted play ?Dishonored Lady.? The play was based, in part, on a true historical incident in the public domain. When MGM was unsuccessful in negotiating to obtain the rights to the play, the studio produced a movie of its own, ?Letty Lynton,? based on the same historical incidents that were the basis for Sheldon?s play. Although much of this movie was original, certain details and sequences of events were identical to those expressed in Sheldon?s play. The lower court held for MGM on the grounds that the material borrowed only involved general themes or ideas. The appellate court disagreed concluding that there was an infringement. The court found that MGM?s work was identical in details and sequence of events to Sheldon?s work in matters unrelated to the underlying true story. The court reasoned that this borrowing was more than merely appropriating an idea or a theme. Some of the details and sequences of events in Sheldon?s play that were not historical facts in the public domain were also present in MGM?s movie. The court concluded that it didn?t matter that the plagiarized material comprised only a small portion of the film because it is not acceptable to steal a little bit. Also: Inchon W./Laurence Olivier & Jacqueline Bisset! The history of the film is interesting! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inchon_%28film%29

  18. Thanks to Movieweb! Jon Tenney and Amber Heard have joined the cast of Screen Gems' The Stepfather, a remake of the 1987 horror thriller being produced by Maverick Films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tenney will play a father trying to reconnect and protect his teenage son, played by Penn Badgley (Gossip Girl). Heard plays Badgley's girlfriend. Friday Night Lights actress Adrianne Palicki was in negotiations for Heard's part, but the dates did not work out, according to her reps. Sela Ward is already on board as Tenney's ex-wife, whose soon-to-be husband (Dylan Walsh of Nip/Tuck) might have murdered his previous family. The Stepfather reteams director Nelson McCormick and writer J.S. Cardone, who worked together in the same capacity on another Screen Gems remake, Prom Night, which opens April 11, 2008. Between the crappy Re-Make of "Prom Night", & "The Stepfather" I wonder what is next!??
  19. Classicflix.com Universal Studios** has announced a May 20th release date for James Stewart - The Western Collection. The six DVD set will retail for $39.98, but is available at Classicflix.com for only $29.99. They are: Destry Rides Again (1939) Winchester '73 (1950) Bend Of The River (1952) The Far Country (1955) Night Passage (1957) The Rare Breed (1966) They have all been previously released on DVD and it looks like Universal will just repackage the same content with the possible exception of The Far Country. While its original aspect ration is 1.85:1, its May 2003 DVD release was in the full screen format. However, the specs for this set show The Far Country as being released in 1.85:1. We'll find out, but I'm doubtful.
