  1. Also ...to add: Entertainment Weekly #980-February 29, 2008 They have a section Titled: The Must List (10 Things We Love This Week) #1...."Tootsie" 25th-Anniversary DVD Dorothy Michales certainly is a timeless beauty. Can you believe it's been a quarter-centruy since Dustin Hoffman stepped inot a girdle to liberate himself from unemployment??
  2. Brad Renfro (July 25, 1982 ? January 15, 2008)...sad we lost him, & what was sadder the news paid more attention to Heath Ledger than Brad's! Brad had completed filming on the yet unreleased movie "The Informers", co-starring Winona Ryder and Billy Bob Thornton.
  3. 4. Entertainment Weekly #980-February 29, 2008 They have a section Titled: The Must List (10 Things We Love This Week) Pierrot Le Fou (1965) The long-awaited DVD confirms Jean-Luc Godard's films is a New Wave gem: a twisted French romance with a tragic ending that's mind-blowing. Literally. I just ordered this from Amazon.com. Never seen it, but I'm a fan of Jean-Luc Godard (I love his film "? bout de souffle" AKA: Breathless).
  5. "Destino" is a short animated cartoon released in 2003 by The Walt Disney Company. "Destino" is unique in that its production originally began in 1945, 58 years before its original release. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen was "Destino", the short, unfinished animated film collaboration between Salvador Dali and Walt Disney. Financial concerns during World War II had brought an end to the project, letting it lie forgotten for many decades. In 2003, nephew Roy rediscovered the project, finished it, and released it to a number of festivals like Toronto's Worldwide Short Film Fest, which is where I saw it. Just imagine the old-school, artistic touch of Disney merged with Dali's surrealist eye. Over a year ago, the film was on its way to DVD as part of the Legacy Collection, but the release date came and went. Now the Disney Blog has posted the disc's new release date, which was part of a recent announcement. It seems that now the film will be part of Disney's Treasures collection. Each release -- Destino, Chronological Donald, Volume 4, and Dr Syn, Alias the Scarecrow -- are hosted by Leonard Maltin and will get a 2-Disc DVD on November 11. Of course, this is Disney we're talking about, so the release will be limited. For Destino's set, there's the finished film, a feature-length documentary about the partnership between Dali and Disney, a featurette about unfinished Disney projects, and another featurette that covers celebrities and artists who were attracted to Disney's work. Man, it's hard to remember these days what Disney started out as -- it wasn't just family entertainment, but some beautiful art. Thanks Cinematical, Wikipedia & Entertainment Weekly!
  6. Dissatisfied in marriage and life, Ferdinand (Jean-Paul Belmondo) takes to the road with the babysitter, his ex-lover Marianne Renoir (Anna Karina), and leaves the bourgeoisie behind. Yet this is no normal road trip: genius auteur Jean-Luc Godard s tenth feature in six years is a stylish mash-up of consumerist satire, politics, and comic-book aesthetics, as well as a violent, zigzag tale of, as Godard called them, the last romantic couple. With blissful color imagery by cinematographer Raoul Coutard and Belmondo and Karina at their most animated, Pierrot le fou is one of the high points of the French new wave, and one last frolic before Godard moved ever further into radical cinema Details: Color Supplements: New, restored high-definition digital transfer, approved by cinematographer Raoul Coutard, New video interview with actor Anna Karina, A "Pierrot" Primer, a new video program with audio commentary by filmmaker Jean-Pierre Gorin, Godard, l'amour, la poesie, a fifty-minute French documentary about director Jean-Luc Godard and his work and marriage with Karina, Archival interview excerpts with Godard, Karina, and actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, Theatrical trailer, New and improved English subtitle translation, A booklet featuring a new essay by critic Richard Brody, a 1969 review by Andrew Sarris, and a 1965 interview with Jean-Luc Godard. Entertainment Weekly #980-February 29, 2008 They have a section titled "The Must List" (10 Things We Love This Week), & they list: Pierrot Le Fou The long-awaited DVD confirms Jean-Luc Godard's film is a New Wave gem: a twisted French romance with a tragic ending that's mind-blowing. Literally. I just ordered this film from Amazon.com
  7. Walker - Criterion Collection Hallucinatory biopic that breaks all cinematic conventions, Walker, from British director Alex Cox (Repo Man, Sid & Nancy), tells the story of nineteenth-century American adventurer William Walker (Ed Harris), who abandoned a series of careers in law, politics, journalism, and medicine to become a soldier of fortune, and for several years dictator of Nicaragua. Made with mad abandon and political acuity and the support of the Sandinista army and government during the Contra war the film uses this true tale as a satirical attack on American ultrapatriotism and a freewheeling condemnation of manifest destiny. Featuring a powerful score by Joe Strummer and a performance of intense, repressed rage by Harris, Walker remains one of Cox s most daring works. Details: Color Supplements: New, restored high-definition digital transfer, approved by director Alex Cox, Audio commentary by Cox and screenwriter Rudy Wurlitzer, Dispatches from Nicaragua, an original documentary about the filming of Walker, On Moviemaking and the Revolution, reminiscences twenty years later from an extra on the film, The Immortals: behind-the-scenes photos, PLUS: A booklet featuring writings by film critic Graham Fuller, Wurlitzer, and Linda Sandoval

  10. Al Pacino, one of the most distinguished actors of the past 30 years, is feted by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on March 11, 2008 with the release of 1970s thrillers "And Justice for All" and "Bobby Deerfield", each for the SRP of $19.94. The Oscar and Golden Globe?-nominated courtroom saga "And Justice for All" stars Pacino as Arthur Kirkland, a lawyer whose morals are tested when he is asked to defend a judge charged with a dreadful crime. In the Golden Globe?-nominated romantic drama "Bobby Deerfield", Pacino plays a world-renown race car driver whose life is turned upside down when a colleague is killed in an accident and a mysterious woman steals his heart. "And Justice for All" special features include interviews with the director Norman Jewison (Moonstruck, Fiddler On The Roof) and writer Barry Levinson (High Anxiety, Avalon), deleted scenes and the pilot episode of TV courtroom drama "Damages". 11. On May 13, 2008, Paramount Home Entertainment will release new Special Editions of all 3 "Indiana Jones" films. Just in time for the theatrical release of "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull", Paramount will re-release "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (on the site, it's called "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark"), "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". 12. 'Sweeney Todd' Hits DVD on April First! (No Foolin'.) Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" will be available to own (via shiny disc) on the first of April. Choose between a single-disc release (which includes one "making-of" documentary) or a extras-laden double-disc edition that comes with a BUNCH of featurettes, photo galleries, trailers and a Moviefone Unscripted piece, which is cool because we love Moviefone! Neither DVD package will include an audio commentary, unfortunately for those who love audio commentaries. Thanks to Cinematical for the info!
  13. Found this on Movieweb.com, thought I might share W./my movie friends! Warner Bros. Studios is 85 this year and they are celebrating with special promotions each month. The first quarter of the year film lovers are treated with several Oscar award winning movies and Gangster movies on DVD, among which are: special editions of Bonnie and Clyde, The Departed, Goodfellas, and much more. The second quarter, two special men are honored: Frank Sinatra and Dirty Harry! All five Dirty Harry films will be included in an "Ultimate Collector's Edition." And a variety of films from the Chairman of the Board, aka Sinatra, will be available, with a new Rat Pack Ultimate Collector's Edition. This incredible set includes Ocean's Eleven (the original), 4 for Texas, Robin and the Seven Hoods and Sergeants 3. For some reason the Rat Pack loved numbers in their film titles. Also from Sinatra are comedies, musicals, and dramas. The third quarter it's time for Batman with a Batman Anthology as well as a Limited Edition Batman Begins Gift Set. Also this quarter, the studio is honoring classic westerns, Errol Flynn westerns, and some of their classic musicals including Kismet and Hit the Deck, among others. And in the final quarter of this birthday year will be a new classic horror collection as well as holiday films and, of course, little Ralphie in an A Christmas Story Ultimate Collector's Edition. Recently at the Warner Bros. studios the execs showed off their release calendar for 2008. Warren Beatty dropped by to promote Bonnie and Clyde and the Sinatra family came to support the Frank Sinatra DVD releases. Warner Bros. was founded by four brothers in 1923, and ever since the studio has been making movie history. Its first international star was Rin Tin Tin. This year they released several Oscar contention films: Michael Clayton, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and In the Valley of Elah. The studio is located in Burbank, California and offers regular guided tours. Visitors get to see the place where magic happens and spend time in the 7,000 square foot studio museum where, if you want, you can be sorted by the magic hat in the same way Harry Potter and his friends did when they entered Hogwarts. By the way, the number of hats in the costume department is well over 10,000! Besides award-winning films, the studio is also the place where some of the best television shows called and still call home. ER, Friends, and many more use the 110 acre main lot and the nearby 32 acre Warner Ranch. Throughout the year Warner Home Video is celebrating the glorious and magical 85 years. And in September, PBS will broadcast a three-part special called "You Must Remember This: The Warner Bros. Story". Film buffs of all kind will learn about the history of the studio, as well as the history of the last 85 years.
  14. US actor Roy Scheider, best known for playing the police chief in the Jaws movies, has died at the age of 75. As well as starring in the first two shark thrillers, Scheider received two Oscar nominations during his career. He was up for best supporting actor for The French Connection in 1972 and best actor for 1979's All That Jazz. He died in hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. He had been treated there for multiple myeloma, a cancer of the plasma cell, for the past two years. Scheider's Jaws co-star Richard Dreyfuss said: "He was a wonderful guy. He was what I call a knockaround actor. "A knockaround actor to me is a compliment that means a professional that lives the life of a professional actor and doesn't yell and scream at the fates and does his job and does it as well as he can." First blockbuster "Jaws", released in 1975, was directed by Steven Spielberg and was the first film to make $100m (?51m) at the box office. It is widely regarded as the film that ushered in the blockbuster era. Scheider's other film credits included "Klute", "Marathon Man" and "Sorcerer". In the 1990s, he played the captain of a giant, high-tech submarine in futuristic undersea adventure TV series "SeaQuest DSV". In 2005, one of Scheider's most famous lines in the movie "Jaws" ? "You're gonna need a bigger boat" ?was voted No. 35 on the American Film Institute's list of best quotes from U.S. movies.

I bought "PSYCHO" & the box states: NOMINATED FOR 4 ACADEMY AWARDS INCLUDING BEST DIRECTOR & the bottom of the box 1960 WIDESCEEN! I noticed they also had "Rear Widow" & "Vertigo" too. They had "The Sting" but "ONLY" in fullscreen, so I didn't buy that!

  18. Thanks to Movieweb.com..thought I whould share W./Friends! This year marks the 85th Anniversary of the Warner Brothers Studio, and they certainly have big plans for this year-long event. The studio has announced a bevy of new special editions of some of their classic films to be released throughout the year, and, headlining this celebration will be the "NEW" documentary, "You Must Remember This: The Warner Bros. Story", which will recount the vast history behind this legendary studio. This documentary was written, produced and directed by Richard Schickel, and was narrated by Clint Eastwood. The film was produced in partnership with the PBS program, American Masters, and the film will be broadcast as a three-part special in September 2008. The DVD release will follow later in the month, and will also coincide with a 550-page companion book written by Schickel and George Perry, with an introduction by Eastwood. The studio has also announced plans to restore more than 50 classic films and bring them to DVD for the first time. They will also roll out several of its more modern classics in new special editions, with each quarter of the year having its own theme. The first quarter is devoted to the Oscars and Warner Gangsters. Special editions this quarter include Goodfellas, Heat, Bonnie and Clyde and other assorted collections. The second quarter will feature three new sets from Frank Sinatra along with the new Dirty Harry: Ultimate Collectors Edition. 21. Dimension Films has just announced that it will remake the classic horror film "Piranha" into a 3-D feature. According to Bloody-Disgusting, Alex Aja has signed on to direct the project. Piranha is the story of a pack of razor-toothed fish terrorzing a small local lake. Residents struggle to deal with the situation and the horrible outcome it produces. Dimension Films has scheduled the release of "Piranha" in 3-D for July 24th, 2009. "Piranha" was a 1978 horror film, directed by Joe Dante. .............................. Per "Wikipedia": "Piranha" is a 1978 comedy horror film about a swarm of killer piranha. It was directed by Joe Dante and starred Bradford Dillman, Heather Menzies, Kevin McCarthy, Keenan Wynn and Dick Miller. Produced by Roger Corman, "Piranha" is a parody of the 1975 film "Jaws", which had been a major success for distributor Universal Studios and director Steven Spielberg, and inspired a series of similarly-themed B movies such as "Grizzly", Tintorera, "Tentacles", "Orca", "Up from the Depths" and "Great White". Piranha's similarity to "Jaws" was as such that Universal attempted to halt the film's distribution. However, Spielberg saw the film in advance and liked it. "Piranha" was followed by a sequel, "Piranha II: The Spawning", in 1981, and two remakes, one in 1995, and another which is forthcoming. The film was shot at Aquarena Springs
  22. What the "HELL" is wrong with Hollywood, & Re-making great cult films! Why Can't Hollywood just clean up the original prints & Re-Release them back in to theaters, that way Hollywood earns it's money back to make better, more original films! I mean have you seen what they did with the Re-make of "Prom Night"? LOL! & it's PG-13! to! Hello Hollywood, you make crapy films like "Hostel", & Re-Hash "Saw", but can't give a decent up-date to "Prom Night" Here is the Theatrical Trailer for "the " Re-Make" of Prom Night" (2008) Prom Night (2008) Theatrical Trailer ..it's kinda bad! Funny to! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYPBBDcT6k0 ..Oh BTW here is the atricle..Thanks to Cinematical.com I could have sworn I did a little piece on the planned remake of George Romero's The Crazies, but the Cinematical search function seems to believe otherwise. But a while back it was mentioned that director Brad Anderson and screenwriter Scott Kosar (who once collaborated to give us The Machinist) very well might be getting back together for a remake of Romero's 1973 infection thriller ... and then we heard nothing. Odds are that Mr. Anderson has moved on to other projects, but according to gory sources, the remake is not nearly dead. Seems that producers Dean Georgaris and Michael Aguilar have tapped a second writer (Ray Wright) to help the project along. We'll let Mr. Wright's debut (the wretched Pulse remake) slide and look forward to his Case 39, which stars Renee Zellweger and opens on August 22. When the producers decided to finally ash-can this remake because nobody aside from hardcore horror fans even remember The Crazies (which means the title isn't nearly as marketable as Halloween, Chainsaw or Prom Night), we'll be sure to let you know.
