The Best and Worst Remakes...
CelluloidKid replied to Metropolisforever's topic in General Discussions
WORST RE-MAKES: PSYCHO HALLOWEEN THE FOG GODZILLA HEARTBREAK KID THE HILLS HAVE EYES VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED PROM NIGHT (Released April 11th, 2008) THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL Of course "The Rains Came" W./Myrna Loy, Tyrone Power became "The Rains of Ranchipur" W./RIchard Burton & Lana Turner ............................................... ALSO: There are always rumors circulating around about which film Quentin Tarantino will be directing next. According to Variety, the director is suddenly determined to remake the Russ Meyer exploitation flick Faster, Pussycat! Kill!... Kill!. He wants to make the film even more scandalous than the original, which centered around three busty women traveling through the desert and stirring up trouble. His dream cast includes Kim Kardashian, Eva Mendes and Britney Spears. This sounds like a blasphemous rumor to us. But stranger things have come to fruition. The film he is purposing would definitely find an audience. ............................................................................. Shanghai Express (1932) W./Marlene Dietrich was remade in 1942 as "Night Plane from Chungking" and in 1951 as "Peking Express"! -

PERSECUTION aka THE GRAVEYARD; SHEBA; THE TERROR OF SHEBA A horror film staring Lana Turner! "Persecution" was an attempt to do an English variation on "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?" (1962), one of the more influential psycho-thrillers of the previous decade, which had Bette Davis and Joan Crawford engaged in Grand Guignol melodramatics. It had created its own fad of films with other actresses beyond their prime lining up to chew the scenery ? indeed Hammer had made half-a-dozen of these themselves in the previous decade. Persecution throws Lana Turner into the fray

I just bought tickets for the touring Broaday show of "Sweeney Todd"! It is coming to Phoenix, Az in April! My partner & my dad both saw "Sweeney Todd" on Braodway W. Len Cariou as Sweeney Todd and Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Lovett. You should check out a 1936 a film version of the Victorian melodrama, called Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, starring Tod Slaughter in the title role. I found a copy of this on DVD in a $1.00 bin, & it wasn't bad! Show Dates Apr. 15 - 20, 2008 - ASU Gammage Innovative, intimate and ingenious, this revolutionary new production of SWEENEY TODD "is an event theatergoers will be talking about for years." (The Wall Street Journal). ..... The film version W./Johnny Depp was really good! Despite the grim expectations from the story synopsis, the film delivers gore in a surprisingly tasteful way. There are no screaming teenagers running from a lunatic; instead we get a somewhat British blend of satire, slapstick and just "wrong" humor. Although I'm not much of a Johnny Depp fan, I enjoyed his performance as well as Helena Bonham Carter's. The musical highlight for me is the "A Little Priest", ("Sir, it's too good, at least! Then again, they don't commit sins of the flesh, So it's pretty fresh.") is as funny and gleefully mad as the scene requires! Love it... Love it...Love it!!

The Fearless Vampire Killers (titled Dance of the Vampires in the UK) great vampire film! I love this film!! What can I say? I just love it. I saw it as a kid, on a late night program and realized for the first time horror and sophisticated comedy could really match. I was too young then, though, to fully appreciate the "maestra" of director Polanski; his incredibly unique aptitude to create terror, or in that instance laughter, out of sheer absurdity. It took me another five years and "Rosemary's Baby" to comprehend, at least in part(s), the genius of the man. When I lived in Denver, CO they had an old art house film which played Cult films on the big screen & "Fearless Vampire Killers" was a film I finally got to see on the big screen! This has to be 1 of Roman Polanski's best films! I bought this on DVD a few years back & thank god it's the director's cut which put back in footage that US distrubters wanted cut out! I always like the American title of the film which is: "Pardon me, but your teeth are in my neck" !

I love the "Sound of Music" but I always thought this was funny! Christopher Plummer intensely disliked working on the film. He's been known to refer to it as "The Sound of Mucus" and likened working with Julie Andrews to "being hit over the head with a big Valentine's Day card, every day." So everytime I watch "The Sound of Music" I always laugh at what Christopher Plummer stated!
