Found this thought I would pass it on!
Since other networks haven't been successful with reality shows featuring aspiring Hollywood writers and directors, VH1 has decided to move on to aspiring actresses with a new show called Scream Queens. The Hollywood Reporter tells us Scream Queens will be a new series from Lionsgate that will give 10 unknown actresses the chance to compete for "a major role in a horror movie from Lionsgate Films." Major role, huh? Will she be ... the fourth to die in a cast that includes, say, seven? If so, that's pretty damn major.
The series, which will include challenges (who can scream the loudest?) and acting tips from coach John Homa, will consist of eight hour-long episodes and premieres this fall. I don't know about this one, folks. As much as I love and support aspiring actors and actresses, the talent in horror films isn't exactly top notch these days. Then again, should VH1 hire Flavor Flav to host a segment and dress their contestants in half-naked horror digs, perhaps they'll attract a pretty large audience. The experiment should be a fascinating one to watch, knowing VH1 and their fabulous eye for sluts and drama. Will you tune in?
Thanks

The Godfather Films to Be Re-Released on DVD in September 2008?
Here's a real offer you can't refuse. According to Blocks and Files, the Godfather DVD Collection trilogy has just recently been restored and plans to re-release the trilogy on DVD and possibly Blu-Ray are under way with a release date set for sometime in September. Here's a snippet from that article:
"The restoration efects are dramatic. The beautifully restored Godfather trilogy will be re-released in September, prompting, no doubt, hundreds of thousands of DVD sales and, hopefully, Blu-ray disk sales as well. Only with Blu-ray will the full richness of tone and detail in Coppola's masterpiece transfer to home screens. Perhaps this will be the Blu-ray offer that home movie screen viewers cannot refuse."
Of course, the re-release of this classic Francis Ford Coppola trilogy has not been officially announced by Paramount as of yet.

Phase IV (1974)
An American science fiction film, made in 1974. It is the only feature-length film directed by the noted title designer Saul Bass. It starred Nigel Davenport, Michael Murphy, Lynne Frederick and Helen Horton (who would later provide the voice of "Mother" in Alien).
The film bears some similarity to an earlier film, The Hellstrom Chronicle. Both feature extensive use of close-up photography of actual insects. Both imply that humanity, having failed, must give way to insects, who will now take over from them, in Hellstrom Chronicle insects generally, in Phase IV, ants specifically.

It is about a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agent, agent Cross (Burt Lancaster) who is suspected of treason. As to have him eliminated, the CIA sends Jean Laurier (Alain Delon) alias "Scorpio", a French assassin, to kill him. Amazingly, a scene of the espionage thriller was filmed at the Watergate Hotel during the day of the break-in that brought about the cover-up which eventually brought down the Nixon presidency.

Destruction of the copies could affect several upcoming screenings at museums and other sites.
In addition to the ruined "King Kong" attraction and the burned New York street scapes, the Universal Studios Hollywood fire has claimed another casualty: perhaps hundreds of classic 35-millimeter film prints, the studio said Tuesday.
The prints were high-quality copies of decades-old movies, not original masters, which are stored in a Philadelphia vault, the studio said. But the loss of the copies in Universal's scorched vault building, which the studio had not yet quantified, could affect several upcoming screenings of classic films at museums, festivals and repertory theaters.

"The Train" W./Burt Lancaster Will shown on Encore "Mystery" on:
Friday, June 06, 2008 @ 04:00am (PT) Arizona Time...Check Local Listings!!
"The Train"
Directed by: John Frankenheimer.
Stars: Burt Lancaster and Paul Scofield.
In 1944, a German colonel loads a train with French art treasures to send to Germany. The Resistance must stop it without damaging the cargo.
Nominated for the 1965 Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Award for Writing (story and screenplay written directly for the screen).
"Incidentally, I think this is the last big action picture ever made in black and white, and personally I am so grateful that it is in black and white. I think the black and white adds tremendously to the movie."
-- John Frankenheimer on the DVD commentary track for "The Train".

I think it's an absolutely riveting thriller, an American-French co-production, with a great cast, well-written plot and script - and great stuntwork. As with all of John Frankenheimer's work, it's an instantly classic masterpiece!

PARIS (AFP) ? French fashion's top names, along with President Nicolas Sarkozy and his ex-model wife Carla Bruni, are due to attend the funeral Thursday of one of the country's most legendary designers, Yves Saint Laurent, official sources said.
Several hundred mourners are expected for the 3:30 pm (1330 GMT) funeral at the Saint-Roch church "on an invitation-only basis," Father Roland Letteron, the Roman Catholic priest who will officiate, told AFP.
Saint Laurent, one of the 20th century's greatest couturiers, credited with revolutionising women's wardrobes, died Sunday aged 71 of a brain tumour.
Letteron said the service in one of the city's biggest churches would feature "a lot of music."
The late baroque church is located close to the Louvre museum on one of Paris' most exclusive streets, the Rue Saint-Honore, home to a bevy of top-end designer boutiques.
In homage to Saint Laurent, YSL shops worldwide are to close for two hours from 1330 GMT.
Chief mourner at the ceremony will be Saint Laurent's former lover and longtime business partner Pierre Berge, who founded the iconic YSL fashion house in 1961 with the designer, then only 25.
Also attending will be staff from the YSL empire as well as current designer Stefano Pilati and most of the big names on the Paris fashion scene -- Christian Lacroix, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Sonia and Nathalie Rykiel, Kenzo Takada, Valentino and Riccardo Tisci.
Notably absent will be rival Karl Lagerfeld, "away on business," according to Chanel, and Pierre Cardin, also not in Paris.
From the business sector, the head of the world's leading luxury group LVMH, Bernard Arnault is expected, along with the head of Christian Dior couture, Sidney Toledano.
Saint Laurent, who was born August 1, 1936 in the Algerian town of Oran in the pre-independence era, will be cremated and his ashes flown to a botanical garden in Marrakesh, Morocco, bordering a home bought there by Berge and YSL.
The couturier "spent much of his life in Morocco. He will stay there in a country that influenced and marked him greatly," said Berge. "He will end up in the Maghreb where he was born."
Thanks,
AFP

DVD release:
This film was scheduled for release on DVD in June of 2006 as part of the Fox Film Noir series. Just prior to release, the DVD was recalled without explanation, though some copies did trickle out on the market. It is not known if it will be released at a future time. There is speculation of a copyright issue as the DVD itself has no flaws or defects.
