  1. I think it is very sad and small minded to blast someone for there age! I still think if you can do a better job contact TCM and apply!! Or better get an agent and get into the film business!!

Hating people is like burning down your own house to get rid of a rat. ~Henry Emerson Fosdick

  2. WOW!! I never saw so much hate about 1 person! I love Rose McGowan. She is talented and very educated! It's hard to really sit down and talk about a film in less than what..5 to 10 minutes...Robert Osborn doesn't give a person really a chance to talk about the film etc.

I just think the reason so many people are against Rose McGowan is that she is young & hasn't been in the film business for more than what ...20+ years!, won an Oscar, etc!

Everyone has ideas and thoughts about films, or what makes certain films an essential etc...I think if you don't like the what the person has to say etc then don't watch it and move on!

After Rose McGowan discussed "Out of the Past" which stars Robert Mitchum & why she loved the film, I watched it that night and was blown away! She was right, the film was very different! Thanks to Rose for recommending a film which I went out and bought and added to my classic film library.

I really enjoyed Rose's comments on why she liked "The Misfits". Yes Rose is nervous, you can tell, but being young is not a crime! Rose has some insightful comments, and yes you can tell she is nervous at times, but that is not a reason to rag on someone. I love film, I have taken film classes etc, but when someone asks me what my favorite film is etc, I get nervous to and sometimes ramble. It happens.

If you think you can do a better job then why not submit a video or something to TCM and see if you can the job!

I think it's an honor for someone like Rose to host "THE ESSENTIALS". It also gets the "Younger" (You Tube) generation to tune into TCM and watch a film. I actually had someone tell me at a video store that the reason they finally watched "All About Eve" was that Rose was going to talk about the film!

I may be a film fanatic, but I still learn about films, watch films etc and listen to what others have to say, and not hate them for it!

    What a sad threa!

Shirley Temple Nursing Broken Arm On Her 80th Birthday

American film icon Shirley Temple has been forced to cancel her 80th birthday celebrations on Wednesday after breaking her arm. The veteran actress, who found fame starring in 1934 movie Bright Eyes when she was just six years old, was walking around her Woodside, California home in the dark when she fell and landed awkwardly. Her injury has limited her from accepting visits from friends and family, so her birthday will be a rather subdued occasion. She reveals "I broke my arm last week at my house. It hurts quite a bit. I'm spending my birthday quietly at home." Joking about her mishap, she adds: "People should turn on the lights when they are walking around in the dark." But her landmark age will not go completely unnoticed - Fox Home Entertainment, the video division of film studio 20th Century Fox, will release the sixth and final volume of a series of her movies to commemorate Temple's birthday.

  6. Ever seen "In the Heat of the Night"? The original version of "The Manchurian Candidate"? "Some Like It Hot"?

Renting them on DVD doesn't count. Have you ever seen them on the big screen, at a theater, a tub of popcorn on your lap?

    Here's your chance.

To celebrate the 90th anniversary of United Artists, the studio is offering a festival of 14 of its best-known movies over the next couple of months at Harkins Valley Art Theatre in Tempe and a good chance to catch some great films in the proper setting.

"From its founding 90 years ago by four of the most gifted artists of their time (Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and D.W. Griffith), United Artists recognized the power of movies and created a studio where filmmakers could see their visions realized," Tom Cruise, noted film star, couch jumper and co-owner of UA, said in a statement. "The films included in this festival are just a small sample of UA's illustrious history."

One classic happens to include Cruise: 1988's "Rain Man". The film won four Oscars, including best picture and best actor (Dustin Hoffman).
