  2. Web rumors are proved false once again. According to MTV Movies Blog, Rose McGowan told the site she is still going to star in the remake of Barbarella. Rumors had flown that New Line Cinema wanted a bigger name for the role, but McGowan maintained that was all talk.

"[The news that I was out] was really irritating because I know all the people over there and obviously it wasn't true. It was very malicious and there was no proof," McGowan said of the rumors. "Oftentimes these things have basis in truth but this didn't. I have contracts to prove it."

She also added that the flick is moving forward in pre-production as well.

"Half of the sets have been built. The costumes are done," the actress confessed, adding with a laugh that she's "even got my spaceships. I've got part of a spaceship built for me!"

The only thing apparently standing in the way of this film being made, is casting everyone else and the possibility of a SAG strike.

"[barbarella] wouldn't be able to be finished before June which is when the next strike might happen," McGowan said of delays in the face of a possible SAG strike. "It's a longer shoot."

We'll have more on this film as soon as we get more information!

  3. A cult film refers to a movie that has a devoted following, perhaps undeserved by the movie?s quality, box office performance, or critical reviews. The cult film is often measured by its continued popularity in DVD sales or rentals, long after other popular films have lost their steam and are marked down for quick sale or remain collecting dust on the shelves of video stores. It?s not always possible to determine why a cult film becomes one, but there are a few factors which seem to influence a movie?s ability to become a cult film. A film is more likely to become a cult film if it is from either the science fiction or horror genre. In particular, B movies of the 1950s and onward, especially those directed by people like Ed Wood, become favorites for their poor production value

  6. United Artists film festival flocks into Birmingham 8 movie theatre

United Artists has brought laughter, tears and enjoyment into our lives time and time again, and in honor of its 90th anniversary, United Artists is having a one-time film festival in cities around the country.

The festival will showcase some of UA's classic titles, including cinematic masterpiece "Raging Bull," the first James Bond film "Dr. No," the provocative "Midnight Cowboy," and Woody Allen's classic "Annie Hall." Other titles to be featured are "Goldfinger," "From Russia With Love," "Westide Hall" and "Coming Home." United Artists was formed by artists, for artists, to enable creative minds to make the kind of movies they wanted to make and the kind we, the audience, want to watch.

UA's 90 years of artistic excellence have brought other renowned titles to the silver screen like "Rainman," "Rocky," "In The Heat of The Night" and countless others.

"From its founding 90 years ago by four of the most gifted artists of their time, United Artists recognized the power of movies and created a studio where filmmakers could see their visions realized," Tom Cruise, co-owner of United Artists, said in a release. "The films included in this festival are just a small sample of UA's illustrious history."

The festival will be at the Birmingham 8 movie theater over four days, starting March 31 and ending April 3. The showcased files were selected to give attendees a small taste of the United Artists experience. Paula Wagner, Chief Executive Officer of United Artists, said that the event is a significant one for the group.

"Tom and I are very proud to present, along with the American Film Institute, the United Artists 90th Anniversary Film Festival," Wagner said in a release. "It's both an honor and a pleasure to pay tribute to the talent, inspiration, and craft reflected in the nearly 1,000 films that comprise the UA library. These movies shaped the way we see cinema today, and it is our goal to live up to the rich legacy of UA by creating an artist-friendly environment where filmmakers can thrive."

I found this interesting little article at "Cinematical.com" & I thought I would share it with my movie friends! Being the Charlton Heston & Indiana Jones fan, I this is 1 film int he Heston cannon I haven't seen, after reading this article (& doing my own movie research) I would very much like to see this film...hmmmmmmm...??!!!

Noted in Dave Kehr's blog: commenting on the death of the great Heston, the long-memoried expert on pre Star Wars film writes "one of Heston's most influential roles remains one of his least known: that of Harry Steele. Dashing though cynical adventurer who wears a fedora and a leather jacket, as he searches for Incan treasure in a manner that distinctly suggests a certain later day hero created by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. The film is Jerry Hopper's 1954 Secret of the Incas and Paramount has been strangely reluctant to release it to TV or DVD ... reportedly, Spielberg and Lucas screened it for members of the production team planning Raiders of the Lost Ark."

One Raiders of the Lost Ark fansite, theraider.net. has already commented: "the atmosphere of the story is so similar that any Indiana Jones fan will be smitten with this film."

Why doesn't Paramount fess up and re-release this? It'd be worth $20 to see Heston as Steele, searching for a jeweled relic in the Inca Temple of the Sun among real life locations in Machu Picchu (as visible above, but here's a better look at the poster). He's up against a first-rate villain (Thomas Mitchell, of Gone With the Wind, Stagecoach, and many other classics). And then there's the matter of the film's discovery, the debuting "bird girl of the Andes" Yma Sumac. Seen here at YouTube (

) demonstrating her world-famous 5 octave pipes in one of her numbers from the film. Don't believe the horrible lie that Yma Sumac is really Amy Camus from Brooklyn!
