  5. Another era ... by which I mean ..Nixon is being sworn in as US President in 1 part of the film... ...also by another era, I mean ... how marriage was still looked on as woman's obligation not a right, etc....the whole film was "Before" women's liberation... and even back in the early 60's it was still not common to talk about drinking problems, and when a woman stated she was unhappy in her marraige they always blamed the wife never the man! I still would like to know what pills she was popping!

  7. God .... I'm so glad that I recorded _The Happy Ending_ (1969) .. What an interesting glimpse into another era. ... but between the pill popping, and the ****! moment at the end .... This is 1 film I was really surprised by! A very sad film, twisted too! What was up with Mary Spencer (Jean Simmons) twisted fascination of _Casablanca_ (1942)! I very much loved the casting of Tina Louise. Bobby Darin as a hustler ..another casting twist! Very sad character! I put this up their with _Valley of the Dolls_ (1967), _Two for the Road_ (1967) & _Desperate Characters_ (1971). _The Happy Ending_ has dated considerably since its initial release... but still a good film! Agnes: If sex were the only thing that really mattered, the whole world would be run by rabbits!

  15. *Fri, Jan 29, 2010 @ 10:30 AM (Eastern Time!) - Check Your Local Schedule!* *_Johnny Guitar_ (1954)* "I'm a stranger here myself": the style of Nicolas Ray's Johnny Guitar (1954) made it something of an outsider within the Western tradition. Its bright colours and melodramatic tendencies were quite a departure from the sombre tones of the classic Western. It was also unusual in its foregrounding of the female leads, Joan Crawford and Mercedes McCambridge, in a boy's own genre.
