*Candy Hits by Zasu Pitts, which includes dozens of candy recipes from the skinny actress whose career spanned the silent era (she was in the classic movie Greed) to the early days of television. Candymaking was Zasu's hobby, and the book is loaded with recipes for confections you hardly see anymore: divinity, panocha, Texas Tycoons and Cleopatras.*

Pitts died in 1963. Her hometown hosted a Zasu Pitts Film Festival at the local community college for five years until 2002 when the festival, like a homemade marshmallow left out in the sun, fizzled away.

*This month I head back to the Sixth Annual Robert Osborne's Classic Film Festival in Athens, Georgia where I?m privileged to be a panelist for the fourth time. Any true classic movie fan recognizes Robert Osborne as one of the most knowledgeable experts about classic movies as well as an enduring and congenial host of TCM?s movie channel.*

Athens, Georgia and the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication (this is its annual nonprofit event) eagerly await the Festival?s arrival each year. The town?s 2,000-seat Classic Center Theater is transformed into a world-class movie palace for the four-day festival, Thursday through Sunday, March 25-28. With the installation of a motion picture screen and state-of-the-art 35mm projection and sound systems, it?s movie magic every year.

Osborne taps into his movie expertise to choose the film lineup and executive festival director Nate Kohn and director Pamela Kohn set about to fill the guest list of invitees. This year?s film lineup includes the classics:

To Catch a Thief, Double Indemnity, Stand By Me, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Shining, All About Eve, Steamboat Bill, Jr., The Godfather II, and The Wizard of Oz.

  4. It seems that Will Smith is gearing up for a new project he will star in and produce in, and it will be a remake of an Alfred Hitchcock film. Latino Review is reporting that Smith will star in and produce a remake of Alfred Hitchcock's 1941 film _Suspicion_.

The original film starred Cary Grant and Joan Fontaine, which revolves around Fontaine's character marrying Grant's character, and then she suspects he's trying to kill her. The site reports that Smith is in talks to play Cary Grant's character.

The rights to the original film are held by RKO and the project was expected to land at Paramount. to read the full article.

*What do Harold Ramis and this year?s Oscar for Best Actor have in common?*

Not a whole lot -- Ramis has never been nominated for an Oscar and never attended the Academy Awards ceremony -- but they were both at The Shops at North Bridge (520 N. Michigan Ave.) Thursday. The ?Caddy Shack? director cut the ribbon in front of the ?Meet the Oscars, Chicago,? exhibit, which includes this year?s Best Actor trophy on display.

The exhibit is open to the public through March 7, the day of the Oscars, and includes Bette Davis? Best Actress Oscar for ?Jezebel? and an opportunity to take a photo with a real Oscar (it?s heavier than you think).

Ramis said he has never attended the Oscars because he?s ?too jealous to sit there and celebrate someone else?s success? and admitted there were a few times when he thought he had a chance at a nomination.

?I thought ?Groundhog Day? had a shot for screenplay,? Ramis said. ?We won the British Academy Award for best screenplay. I also thought ?Analyze This? had a chance for screenplay ? it was a pretty good screenplay.?

Although he?s helped create a few comedy classics, Ramis isn?t bothered by the fact that the Academy tends to ignore comedies.

?One of the reasons comedies don?t get nominated is because they?re not always very good movies,? Ramis said. ?We?re so focused on making it funny that we?ll sacrifice other filmmaking virtues.?
