Yes and No ...
Oscar ceremony co-host Steve Martin is nominated for worst actor in "Pink Panther 2." No other actor has ever been up for a Razzie the same year he or she emceed the Academy Awards, although Martin's co-host on March 7, Alec Baldwin, was nominated for a Razzie in 2003 (worst supporting actor, "Cat in the Hat").
Sandra Bullock is considered an Oscar best actress front-runner for "The Blind Side," but she's also nominated for 2009's worst actress for "All About Steve." If Bullock claims both trophies, she'll be the first star ever to pull off the dual win in the same year.
Others have done so in nonacting categories. In 1992, Alan Menken won two Oscars for composing the music in "Aladdin" and a Razzie for a tune in "Newsies." In 1997, Brian Helgeland reaped an Oscar for writing "L.A. Confidential" screenplay and a Razzie for penning "The Postman."
Two stars have been nominated for an Oscar and a Razzie in the same year for the same role, but they lost: James Coco ("Only When I Laugh") and Amy Irving ("Yentl"). Halle Berry famously bagged a Razzie soon after her Oscar, but three years separated her wins for "Catwoman" (2004) and "Monster's Ball" (2001).

*All Aboard The Blu-Ray African Queen March 23rd*
Cinema Blend - David Wharton - Jan 19, 2010
If there's one unexpected benefit of Blu-ray, it's the trend of older classics getting spiffed up and re-released in pristine quality. The latest to come down the pike -- or up the river -- is John Huston's The African Queen, chockablock with action, adventure, and romantic snark between Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn. The new Blu-ray and DVD versions will be docking on March 23rd, freshly remastered and carrying a cargo of brand-new bonus material.
Starring Bogart as often-tipsy boat captain Charlie Allnut and Hepburn as prim missionary Rose Sayer, The African Queen earned Bogie a Best Actor Oscar, netted nominations for Hepburn, Huston's direction, and the screenplay, and currently sits comfortably on AFI's 100 Greatest Movies list. It's a great flick, and I'm more than happy to have a new cleaned-up release as an excuse to watch it again.
*Unsurprisingly, the new set comes in multiple different versions, including single-disc DVDs and Blu-rays or the snazzier collector's versions. The collector's edition looks like it will mainly just add a few collectible knickknacks, so the single-disc may be the way to go for all but the snobbiest of film snobs.*
THE AFRICAN QUEEN DVD is presented in full screen format with English, French and Spanish Mono and English, French and Spanish subtitles. The Blu-ray is presented in 1080p High Definition with English, French and Spanish Mono and English, English SDH, French, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles. Special features are as follows:
Embracing Chaos: Making The African Queen -- This comprehensive documentary takes a look back at the production with commentary about the cast, the challenges of the filming locations and how the spectacular cinematography impacted the industry overall. Includes on-camera interviews with notable Hollywood icons, critics and crew members from the film including Martin Scorsese, Tony Huston, Richard Schickel and more, plus never-before-seen archival images and home movie footage provided by the estate of cinematographer Jack Cardiff.
*The Commemorative, Limited-Edition DVD and Blu-ray box sets include the above along with*:
?An audio disc with a recording of the Lux Radio Theater presents The African Queen radio broadcast
?A Senitype? film frame collectible reproduction
?Collectible postcards featuring reproductions of images related to the film
?A reproduction of Katharine Hepburn?s out-of-print memoir The Making of The African Queen or How I Went to Africa with Bogart, Bacall and Huston and Almost Lost My Mind

*Let the Bidding Begin on the Miramax Library*
by Monika Bartyzel Feb 1st 2010
Cinemtical
With the doors closed, Disney is trying to get rid of Miramax's merchandise. In other words, the library that boasts 700 films and brought in over 200 Oscar nominations, shelves that include titles like Pulp Fiction, Chicago, No Country for Old Men, and Shakespeare in Love. According to The New York Times' Media Decoder, there are roughly 7-10 interested bidders willing to pay over $700 million for the name and its films -- one of whom, so far, doesn't include The Weinsteins.
The pack does include, however, Summit Entertainment -- the small little studio that grabbed a tossed-off Twilight Saga and made themselves a mint. Decoder notes that the company doesn't have its own large library to bring in extra coin, and "could use the steady if diminishing DVD and television-resale income that comes from one."
Analysts think that old-title income is over $300 million per year, although Disney has never released a number. However, that $300 might be very, very off. Wax Word at The Wrap notes that "According to two individuals who have had access to the financials, the library threw off about $100 million in net cash flow for the year according to the latest available figures." They also report that billionaire Nelson Peltz is interested -- the man who once owned Snapple, who now owns part of Cadbury-Schweppes, and currently has no hands in the movie business.
Should that $100 million be right, it's doubtful that many would be willing to wait 7+ years to make their money back, and if some interested parties start backing down, maybe The Weinsteins will be able to dance in and grab control of their studio once again.

*JD Salinger documentary being readied for spring film festival*
Tuesday, 2 February 2010
Independent
Relax News
*Author J.D. Salinger refused to release rights to produce a film version of his classic novel Catcher in the Rye, turning down directors from Frank Capra to Steven Spielberg, according to former Variety reporter, Mike Fleming. It is a wish that will likely be upheld by his estate, following the writer's death January 27. But this wish won't apply to an upcoming documentary.*
Shane Salerno, a screenwriter currently writing Fantastic Voyage for James Cameron, has directed and produced Salinger, a two-hour documentary about the legacy of the reclusive author. Over five years, Salerno interviewed 150 sources, including those at The New Yorker who worked with Salinger when he wrote for the magazine, as well as authors Tom Wolfe, E.L. Doctorow, John Guare, and Gore Vidal.
Artists interviewed for this film, who were inspired by Salinger's work, include Philip Seymour Hoffman, Edward Norton, John Cusack, Danny DeVito, and Martin Sheen. Salerno has also collaborated on a book with author David Shields to include the extensive material collected.
The filmmaker hopes to present the film at a spring film festival, such as Cannes. According to Fleming, a contributor for website Deadline Hollywood, who saw a screening of the film in December, it is "exhaustively researched and arrestingly powerful." The film answers questions about Salinger, revealing previously unseen footage and photos. It describes details such as his experiences in WWII in Normandy and reveals his love affair with Eugene O'Neill's daughter Oona who married Charlie Chaplin.
Salerno's portrait of the enigmatic, eccentric and mythic writer addresses his protectiveness of his writing and isolated lifestyle. He also speculates about the 45 years of Salinger's unpublished writing, supposedly locked in the vault. According to his daughter's 2000 memoir, Dream Catcher, there were 15 manuscripts. There is much anticipation for these books and speculation abounds as to whether they can be published now.
Based on Paul Alexander's Salinger: A Biography, which Salerno obtained rights to, originally for a feature film, his passion for the subject was motivated by the author's influence on his writing and an admiration for his rejection of fame. He financed the film himself.
There was a five-minute segment missing from the screening copy of the film "for security reasons," which led the reporter to wonder if it includes recent images of Salinger.

Another era ... by which I mean ..Nixon is being sworn in as US President in 1 part of the film... ...also by another era, I mean ... how marriage was still looked on as woman's obligation not a right, etc....the whole film was "Before" women's liberation... and even back in the early 60's it was still not common to talk about drinking problems, and when a woman stated she was unhappy in her marraige they always blamed the wife never the man!
I still would like to know what pills she was popping!

When I saw _Mary Poppins_ (1964) on the big screen, I saw a trailer for a new documentary called: Walt & El Grupo (2008)! What an Intriguing trailer!
*_Walt & El Grupo_ (2008)*
.
WALT & EL GRUPO chronicles the amazing ten-week trip that Walt Disney and his hand-picked group of artists and filmmaking talent (later known as ?El Grupo?) took to South America in 1941 at the behest of the U.S. Government as part of the Good Neighbor Policy. Within just three short years after the phenomenal success of ?Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,? the Walt Disney Studios experienced a chain of financial challenges that ultimately led to the infamous animators strike.
Also during this time, the Roosevelt administration had growing concerns about Nazi and Fascist influence in Latin America, and the rest of the world was slipping further into war. In stark contrast to these trying times, Disney and his colorful group of artists found themselves on a lively trip full of hope and discovery as they explored various South American cities, spending the majority of their time in the countries of Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The group was saddled with an unusual assignment ? while gathering story material, immersing themselves in the culture, befriending local artists, meeting political leaders and attending countless functions, their journey was also a de facto diplomatic mission, and as a result, the studio produced the classic films ?Saludos Amigos? and ?The Three Caballeros.?
Shot on film in five countries, WALT & EL GRUPO is a tale that still resonates on both sides of the equator. The film time travels in Walt Disney?s footsteps through the use of personal letters and stunning artwork from the trip, remembrances by descendants and survivors, and extraordinary never-before-seen footage. WALT & EL GRUPO brings together an intertwined story of art and politics, the poignancy of a bygone age, and a legendary artist during one of his most trying times.

God .... I'm so glad that I recorded _The Happy Ending_ (1969) .. What an interesting glimpse into another era. ... but between the pill popping, and the ****! moment at the end .... This is 1 film I was really surprised by!
A very sad film, twisted too!
What was up with Mary Spencer (Jean Simmons) twisted fascination of _Casablanca_ (1942)!
I very much loved the casting of Tina Louise.
Bobby Darin as a hustler ..another casting twist! Very sad character!
I put this up their with _Valley of the Dolls_ (1967), _Two for the Road_ (1967) & _Desperate Characters_ (1971).

_The Happy Ending_ has dated considerably since its initial release... but still a good film!

*Ten movies inspired by the famously anti-Hollywood author*
http://social.entertainment.msn.com/movies/blogs/the-hitlist-blogpost.aspx?post=1591783>1=28130
"If there's one thing I hate, it's the movies. Don't even mention them to me. " So said one of literature's most famous protagonists, Holden Caulfield, in one of the most famously un-adapted novels of the twentieth century, "The Catcher in the Rye." A work sought after by producers, directors and actors, including Samuel Goldwyn, Jack Nicholson, Leonardo Di Caprio and Jerry Lewis, all intent on making their statement via its famously reclusive author, it's likely no version of the novel will ever find its way to the big screen.
