*Pickford, Mary.* - Some notable "firsts": Pickford was the first film star to get a closeup (in 1912's Friends); the first star to negotiate a percentage of a film's earnings; the first star (along with husband Doug Fairbanks, Sr., Chaplin, and D.W. Griffith) to create a production company (United Artists, 1920); the first (along with husband Fairbanks) to place her hand- and footprints at Grauman's Chinese Theater (4/30/27). In addition, she was also one of the 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

*Eve Arden received an Academy Award nomination as Best Supporting Actress!!! That counts!?*
*In addition to her Academy Award nomination, Arden also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6714 Hollywood Boulevard. She was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1995.*
*Arden, Eve. (4/30/12 - 11/12/90)*
Joan's snappy sidekick in 1945's Mildred Pierce and 1951's Goodbye My Fancy. She also made a brief appearance as a rejected showgirl in the '33 Crawford-Gable vehicle _Dancing Lady_. Arden was born "Eunice Quedens" and is perhaps best known for "Our Miss Brooks," which was not only a radio show (CBS, 1948 - 1956), but also a TV series (CBS, 1952 - 1956) and a movie (1956).
She is probably most remembered nowadays as the principal of Rydell High in 1978's Grease.

*'The Howling' latest classic horror franchise to get reboot treatment*
November 23, 20009

Werewolves are making a comeback, and no, you can?t give all the credit to ?Twilight Saga: New Moon.? A vampire/werewolf showdown has been in the offing for some time. In any event, the other classic eighties werewolf flick, ?The Howling,? is the latest franchise to get the remake/reboot treatment.
Variety reports that indie producers Joel Kastelberg and Moonstone Entertainment's Etchie Stroh are re-launching the werewolf franchise as "The Howling: Reborn." Former studio marketing exec Joe Nimziki, who has worked at New Line, MGM and Sony, will make his feature directorial debut from his own script. It isn?t known whether this is a direct remake of the original movie or a sequel. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
This announcement comes hot on the heels of the announcement that Dreamworks is remaking the classic eighties vampire flick ?Fright Night.? Universal releases its long-awaited remake of "The Wolfman," starring Benicio del Toro and directed by Joe Johnston in February, 2010.
The original "Howling," directed by Joe Dante from a script by John Sayles and Terence H. Winkless from the novel by Gary Brandner, was released in 1981 and spawned six sequels. Dee Wallace-Stone starred as a news anchor who suffers a breakdown after a close encounter with a serial killer (who turns out to be a werewolf) and is sent to a remote treatment facility (that turns out to be a werewolf resort). Patrick Macnee, Christopher Stone, Dennis Dugan, Belinda Balaski and Elisabeth Brooks co-starred. Horror legend John Carradine also appeared in the film, one of his last. The serial killer, Eddie, was played by Robert Picardo, best known for his TV roles on ?China Beach? and Star Trek: Voyager.?
?The Howling? was released the same summer as ?An American Werewolf in London,? a more expensive production. Both movies featured innovative special effects makeup work by the legendary Rick Baker.
Dante?s breakout movie, ?Piranha,? is being remade as a 3D movie by Alexandre Aja, who directed the thoroughly unnecessary remake of ?The Hills Have Eyes.?
?The Howling: Reborn? is due to start shooting in February, 2010 with an eye towards a Halloween release.

*Love this film!!!!* *1 of my "TOP 10" favorite Film noir films!!*
_Violent Saturday_ is a rarely seen pulp masterpiece was not only shot in blazing Deluxe Color and ultra-wide CinemaScope, it's set in a seemingly idyllic desert mining town, and most of it unfolds in bright, broad daylight -- the better to see the corruption festering just below the happy surface. Noir? You bet.

*Another Amityville Horror Remake?*
Source: Bloody-Disgusting
November 26th, 2009
Bloody-Disgusting has found out that Weinstein Company and Dimension Films are planning another remake of The Amityville Horror, with a director already in talks to helm.
Here is what they had to say:
I just finished wiping away the tears of laughter as I just discovered that the Weinstein Company and Dimension Films are planning on remaking The Amityville Horror...again. Andrew Douglas directed the 2005 reboot produced by Platinum Dunes that grossed over $100m at the box office worldwide. I guess five years in the new 25? Our sources also tell us that there just might be a director already in talks to develop the project. Knowing Dimension Films, I'd expect this project to start and stop at least a dozen times before it ultimately fails. Alas horror fiends, don't stress it no matter how idiotic this sounds.
The original 1979 film was based on a true story that was claimed by writer Jay Anson. The film is about a large house on the coast of Long Island where newly weds George and Kathy Lutz and their three children move into the house that they hope will be their dream house but it ends up in terror. Not aware that a murder took place in the house several years back, George and Kathy turn to their family priest Father Delaney who believes the house is haunted and performs an exorcism on the house. But the evil spirit in the house causes him to become blind and makes him very ill. George and Kathy with the help of another priest Father Bolen and a police detective they face the fears of the house, but not knowing the spirit is planning to possess George and then the children...
