  1. *Shall we try Formula 86 on a certain person who makes us cross today?* Excellent idea!!!
  2. Kyle- Yaaaaaayyyyy! I actually saw White Christmas for the first time last year. And as for Christmas Story? Best. Movie. EVAR. I've seen it a million times and I still watch part of the twenty four hour marathon every year.
  3. *You have to be a VERY patient and strategic person to play the game. I am this.* Are you sure you don't mean somebody else and not yourself? *Ever see Dahl's THE WITCHES?* The Witches is one the best movies ever! *[after zapping a witch into a pile of ashes]* *Grand High Witch: I hope nobody else is going to make me cross today.*
  4. *Do you know if it's true that Roald Dahl was unhappy with the Gene Wilder version?* *I don't really know, but I'd be very interested - if anybody here happens to know.* *Even though the film received positive reviews from critics such as Roger Ebert and Wilder would later earn a Golden Globe nomination for his performance, Dahl was displeased with the final product and refused to sell the rights to the sequel, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator*. -from Wikipedia.
  5. *So now you know what a big TOUCH OF EVIL fan I am,* This is a really good thing as far as I'm concerned. I love that movie. Also, one of THE best soundtracks ever. *I saw the original WILLIE WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY* *for the first time last night. I haven't seen the Johnny Depp remake but I can't imagine anyone else but Gene Wilder in that part.* I thought I would hate the remake (even though I love Tim Burton) since the original is very near and dear to me, but I found that it had it's own updated brand of wierdness and sweetness that I like. In it's own way, it's quite
  6. *"All that was missing was Old Yeller and The Moonspinners..." - lzcutter* These posters crack me up- I love that the Poles were able to make a poster for Old Yeller that made it seem like it was an avant garde movie. And The Moonspinners! So saucy looking for Disney! I too, am cracking up that Pola Negri is in it!
  7. *not a favorite line- just a (pointless(?)) fact: My father's automobiles were used in A Christmas Story. Along with the family car that has the flat tire, his automobiles also include the truck and cars that sit along the streets and in the nieghbors driveway*. I think that's very cool and it reminds me of another line that I love- *My father's tires were only tires in the academic sense-they were round, they had once been made of rubber.*
  8. Another movie to watch and another print for the firepit!
  9. *In the heat of battle, my father wove a tapestry of obscenity, that as far as we know, is still hanging in space over lake Michigan - Ralphie (adult voice-over)* I have to second this as well as nominate - *That sonofab#!@* would freeze up in the middle of summer on the equator!* These lines delight me so much because that whole scene-the car trouble, the furnace and the fall down the stairs-IS my father. *Ralphie: [Reading it] Be sure to drink your Ovaltine. Ovaltine? A crummy commercial? Son of a ****!* I say that every time I drink Ovaltine.
  10. *Actually, Norman Rockwell has done other film posters such as this one that was posted earlier -* Gary Cooper and Norman Rockwell makes more sense to me than Norman Rockwell and Orson Welles.
  11. *Star Of The Month Joseph Cotten, every Tuesday in December on TCM.* I love the poster, but there's something slightly surreal about Norman Rockwell doing a poster for an Orson Welles movie.
  12. *I know...most folks THINK it is a snow MAN.* That thing used to give me the screaming heebee jeebies when I was a kid. *Cowboy w/ the Ostrich???* Totally Cowboy with the Ostrich!!!
  13. *And what was Mlle. Minya doing in here rather than watching "The Parallax View ? I am soooo disappointed - and I blame you as her enabler.* You should blame him! BLAME, BLAME, BLAME!!! He's a very bad sort of person. In my defense, I was fighting off a headache and I knew I wasn't going to be able to concentrate, so I DVR'd it for viewing tomorrow. Or maybe after my party Saturday.
  14. *Maybe you'll be taught some French lessons this spring.* :::shiver::: Oh, I certainly hope so! *What?! All right, I'll make sure the door is locked. Now where are my cookies?* You're going to have to work harder than that. *Darn! Well, that's at least a very cute scene.* Sorry to disappoint! I didn't realize how that read. *I've been told I'm rigid by the frigid.* Nice. Quippy. First I'm snippy and rotten and now I'm frigid. And how does this figure inot you being a gentleman? Okay, I think I got the Platinum Blonde one-Jean Harlow? I know that Benjamin B
  15. *I agree. Besides, I like a couple of Pomosas myself... from time to time* Exactly! I save them for special occasions. Yum, yum, yum.
  16. *We played Trivia Pursuit, Cranium, and Scotland Yard* I love Trivial Pursuit and Cranium!! I've never played Scotland Yard, though. Do you all try to solve a groovy mystery? *You snipe at me!* I have no idea what you're talking about. *You, on the other hand, need to be taught quite a few lessons.* You're not the first guy to say *that* to me. *I'm more of a sickness spreader* I'm not al all shocked about that. *Your dad sounds like an optimist. He must be if he still associates with you* I think he just really wanted to eat some marshmallows. Sigh. You j
  17. *Getting it out of the house was a nightmare and I was vacuuming up needles for weeks.* *Besides that "piney" smell always covered up the cookie smell.* Excellent points! Many a year, I've been cleaning up months later and have found needles. Especially last year-I was struck down with a nasty case of the flu the day I got my tree, so I was able to enjoy it for less than twenty four hours. By the time I was really well enough to pay attention, it had dried out quite a bit. The cookie vs. piney smell is a dilemma, indeed. Right now piney is still winning out, but it doesn't stop me
  18. *For myself, I probably should get a Charlie Brown tree. They need the most love.* Charlie Brown trees are the best trees of them all anyway. I love that the term "Charlie Brown Tree" has become so ubiquitous. Of course, even though I love those trees, from the time I got my own place I've always wanted a big tree. My first apartment was a glorified studio and my Dad had to talk me out of getting a really tall one-he was all "Nicky, you know your ceilings are barely six feet, right?". Now I've got really high ceilings and I can indulge myself a little. My Dad crossed to the dark side a
  19. *So is the movie. I hope you get home tonight in time to catch it. (Put off the Xmas decorations for a few hours.)* If you recommend it, Kyle-then I shall.
  20. *The Parallax View, Ben Mankiewicz's "pick" for December, tonight on TCM.* That poster is amazing!
  21. *Minya between Bronxie's picture, her stories and the Far Side cartoons I've been looking* *at on the internet my neighbors are about to have me committed*. Ahh, but what a way to go!
  22. *Ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!* Best reaction EVER! That had me cracking up as much as the picture.
  23. *Oh, it's definitely going to be a historical occasion, totally worth celebrating. I strongly believe that 2008 will be long remembered as a milestone in America, and not only because of any one thing... rather a whole lot of things that will bring an end to things we grew used to for at least the last quarter-century... if you know what I mean.* Nudge, nudge...wink, wink..say no more, say no more!
  24. *I don't know if I'm the only one here, but traveling to Washington for the inauguration has never been more tempting. Still, since tickets are so hard to come by and most hotels are booked solid, I'll have to make do with watching it on TV.* I know! I heard that Craig's List is doing a big business right now in people putting out ads asking if they can sleep on someone's couch if they live in D.C. This is the first time in my voting history that I'm going to be getting together with friends to have an inauguration party!
