  1. This is my third time to sign off as I am not feeling well but I keep seeing things to resond to. I find this intereting. On the Here network Friday of this past week they gave a list of their new film for the week. One is called **** Promo and gave an hour's worth of the original trailers of films depcicting gay characters. Well here is where I hit the floor, Wings the very first Best Pic Winner had a gay theme. I had no idea. And still don't know how accurate that it, as I wonder if people were trying to put something there that is not really there. But as a gay man, or any man, one can not deny the one element of homosexaulaity which was very evident, allowing kissing and the words, of course they were printed since it is a silent, where one declares his love for the other. And this was not a brotherly love. I had no idea this was part of Wings. Wow. I guess we were flying way before those monkeys and tornados in Kansas. Good thread. Thanks.

  2. This is hysterical. I'd rather resonses as opposed to none. But can people read the thread, at least the beginning. I may not have worded it well, but most are missing the point. It is not a Stanwyck thread, though, LOL, I am learning a hell of a lot about her. If someone else can start a new one the way I intended and word it differently please be my guest. My first time to start a game other than trivia and oh did my intention bomb. LOL. Thanks all for particpatng however and remember I said I learned a lot.

Now If I may suggest once again. Olivia De Havilland for new subject. Then simply post your fav films of hers and at the end name an actor or actress you would like us to post to without you nameing any of their films and then come back and see if the person after you named what you had hoped. I am going to bed. Early but not feeling well. I'll tell you this, I bet I dream about Big Valley. LOL

  3. I am going to bed as I am not feeling well at all. Nothing to do with this. But Patful try a little kindness, you never know of whom you are speaking to and what they may be experiencing. Words are powerful. And if it is merciful for you to be out of here, then I wish you good luck Pat. I am going to try to stick here. I just need not be as vulnerable, but some commnents just mirror aspects of my life I am trying to get back while also accepting some of it may not happen. I wish you the best. But really in this world where there is so much anger and spitefulness, let us strive to be better than that. I know we all can. Myself included.

  4. Tell them in a PM. No point in embarrasing them on the boards. I was so happy from yesterdays responses and had some great PM's. And then two today that just really hurt.

I apologzie to the community for monopoligizing the board. It would have weened anyhow eventually. I can't figure this place out, i am so welcome one mintue and the next I am told I am ruining that. Well I have more respect for the community and the boards and TCM than to ruin it. But to due percentages of how many posts I have done in 8 days...well is that necessary to make a point in front of everyone.

I know I have mood swings from my medications from my surgery. I don't know what is best to do. And I do respond to many many other threads not started by me.

I'll do what you all think is best. I was just excited. At least my posts concentrated on film and were as some said, thought provoking.

  5. I tried to make this interesting. But I guess I need to lay low as I am being told I am monopolizing the boards. I was just trying to have fun. It is new to me and like I said I feel like a kid in a candy store. It would have worn off eventually. So I doubt I will be here to give you the answers. I hope this will pass. But the joy I had today is just gone. Very hurt by a PM sent to me. I try so hard not to let them get to me. But it does. I think my meds from my surgery cause me a lot of mood swings. But I had fun for some time.

  6. Patful I tried to PM you but couldn't. If you want me to lay low or just quit, just say so. I don't have to calculate percentages of how much I posted. I have so much fun here but swear I respect the people here and TCM that I do not want to quit it but will step aside if it is best. I did not mean to monopoligize. I am just excited about it. And it is new to me and this if my fav time of year since it is Oscar Season. there are so many other things I want to say and other oscar trivia posts I want to make, but I will cease for the time being to see if board improves or if what I say if valued as many have indicated. But I have to wonder if you were sarcastic, and now I think you were since I can't send a PM to you, I wonder how many others feel the same way. Most don't voice their opinion in such a manner. I appreciate you at least doing that. But I am cofused. Until your post today I was having great fun. Sorry if I spoiled it for you.

    Sincerely, Robert Michael.

  7. Name whichever you want and how many you want.

I tried to make some new questions I hope you find interesting and worded in a way to be unique, I hope. I hope you have fun with it as I had fun making it.

1). I won Best Picture but had four ladies all running in acting categories. They wore me out on the set. A lot of ego. At times the scenery was not only chewed but swalloed whole. What film am I?

    2) I won Best Pic and they call me a war film in the genre of war. I am a love story. I hate all video stores tha label me under war. I'll warfare with them. What film am I?

3). I won 8, count them 8 Oscars but failed to win best Pic. Still bitter every time someone's tivo starts me up.Who am I?

4). I am the first non-American film to win Best Pic and I deserved it. Who am I? I won by a landslide though Price Waterhouse won't tell you that, I will.

    5) I won 9 out of 9 oscars without one of my actors being nominated. Am I bitter? Hell yes. Who am I?

    6) They call me a musical. I am not a musical. I am an academy award winning film. But not musical. I am a drama. The greatest to ever win. Oz was a musical and it lost. Who am I?

    7) I am the film that is the only film to have a mother and daughter both nominated. I didn't get nominated, oh helll to the no, I said at the nominees luncheon. What film am I?

    8) I am a film that did not get nominated for best pic but I have the honor of being the film that won an award for a man who held the longest gap between his first nomination and his finally having won. What film am I and who is the man?

    9) I was alone for awhile but now have a brother companion in this stat. What films are we in which our director directed themself to winning best actor. Who are we?

    10) I'm not a film but a country who has allowed the academy to nominate me in more foreign language films and wins than any other country. I RULE!!!! Who am I?

  8. As Young as you Feel.

I looked up Veronica Lake films and films with title young.

SCSU you are killing me. Said to stop thinking in terms of title and only clues. Well, damnit to hell, LOL, I now have a headache, my own fault. I am thinking of clues but we have to come up with a title. Where are you. Norbell and I and others need more unless someone is finally right. I love and hate being stumped. LOL. Take care.

  9. I have no idea who DSClassic is. I just wrote a PM to patful. May I say this. I don't think Patful meant anything negative at all. I don't know Patful. But I never meant to own any board and I did ask if anyone felt I was monopolizing to write me. I am grateful I had 17 messages of people saying they are glad I stayed and that my trivia was causing their minds to think.

I, as most know, due to health, have too much time on my hands. I love film obviously.

I found this message board by mistake last week when I came to look at schedule only.

I feel like a kid in a candy store. LOL.

I have so many questions because I love the feedback.

I hope I have not monopolized. I would feel awful if I felt I hurt the boards. Until I have suggestions in which I have, and a lot of suggestions in that way, then I will continue if ok with you.

I appreicate this place and it helps so much with the depression I am fighting over my current health. I am grateful for the support.

    I appreciate your patience.

Now I am going to start another thread in another Oscar Trivia format with a differen take. Thanks all for letting me be a part of your lives. I love the feedback and your responses. I can't tell you what it means to me. It helps pass the time and gives me great thoughts for that book I am almost finsished with called, "It is Not Enough to Be Nominated."

    Peace, Robert Michael.

  10. I am having problems editing a message. I hope this works now. I meant to send a PM to Patful and it came up here. Hopefully it will go away not. I do not know how to get rid of whole message. Hopefully this works.

  11. Thank good that made sense. Not sure of another way to word it. And that sounds like a perfect date. May I mention I am green with envy. And I would hate you if he looks like Antonio Sabato jr. I am working on a script in which Antonio falls completely head over heels in love with me.

Just kidding. But oh how I fantasize. I need a life don't I? LOL.

have a great valentine. Very creative and very intereseting. I am dying to tell you one piece of trivia about that film but I will not. Let me know once you have seen it because it is a tremendous piece of trivia about how the director chose to direct the film and once you know it, it will heighten your appreciatioin. And your husband will love it too. Tell him a man who is homosexual and fierce insists on it. LOL. Let me know, which I am assuming is the 15th. Of course we will talk by then.

    Peace, Robert Micheal.

  12. It has been interesting to read some of the viewpoints of those who do not like the oscars and their stating as such. At first I thought well, I don't visit the sci fi area because it hold no interest, so why are you saying these things if you don't like them. Almost made me want to play Barbra's terrific Don't Rain On My Parade. LOL.

Then I realized of course these people are going to weigh in on it becuase that the headline, so to speak of the month for TCM.

So for those of you who love oscar and oscar trivia, would you tell why. I am curious.

I have written much already about why I do. So would love to hear from others. I know they exist because of the answers to oscar trivia and the PMs that have been sent my way which are very exciting and gracious. I love it here so much more than I thought.

I know awards are silly in the big scheme of things. And I'll never completely understand my passion for Oscar but it exist nonetheless. God bless all. And here is hoping to Day Lewis. If he does not win then I will hate Oscar forever. LOL

  13. I wrote Al Pacino after Dog Day Afternoon. That film had a profound change on me in how I look at cinema. It was very personal and that is when he wrote back I could tell it was from him due to what he wrote in the note.

Then I met him while he was on Broadway in Chinese Coffee along with Charles Durning. I stayed afterwards writing in advance that I would be attending and hoped he remembered me from my letter. I could not believe I recieved another reply and of all things was brought back stage to meet him. You all know how I get. I do not have the gift for the economy of words but finally I was speechless. Eventually I started speaking. And who in the hell ever knew he was so short. I didn't get that because he on screen appears larger than life as the expression goes.

  14. Since I posted Maggie Smith I would like to reply with some of my favs of hers:

    A Room With A View

    The Ladies Lavendar

    Gosford Park (she made it)

    Tea with Mussolini

of course Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

the awful California Suite but she won an Oscar and was great

And so many more. I adore her.

As for John Garfield (great choice by the way)

    I would say

    Juarez

    We Were Strangers

    Hollywood Canteen

    and of course Genlteman's Agreement

and I know their is one I am completely forgetting that I loved.

Ok. Now someone repond to Olivia DeHavilland. I cry at the mention of her name. I love her. Oh God I need a life. LOL.

Olivia.....no one can play it like you can. (I put that there just in case she's reading)

  15. That performance had me thinking all night. I am so glad others agree. Those who have not seen it are in for a treat.

I do have to say one thing that I noticed that no one else picked up on. It is not a spoiler here, so do not feel I am giving anything away. But the very opening seen in which he breaks his left foot was not one in which the irony escaped me. Why is no one else picking up on this?

I think it was to show us the lengths to which this man will go, but I thought the director should have taken a different approach as Day Lewis is so connected to MY LEFT FOOT.

    Any thoughts?

  16. Sandy this reminds me of something someone once said to me and it really gave me a huge insight.

A friend of min was speaking of a book she had read and ended up loving it so much that she wished she had not read it because now she did not have it to look forward too.

I had to let that thought twist in my mind before I understood it.

Yes. It makes sense. Because once you have seen a film and loved it so much, you don't have it to see for the first time. It is an odd insight but I think it holds true. I know there are things I have put off because of that reasoning, not for fear of it not living up to the hype, but I wanted the enjoyment to always be around the corner.

    I hope this makes sense.

Now get thee to Casablanca. You'll love it. Here's looking at you kid.

  17. LOL. This is not working. At least in terms of what I intended, but it's all good.

Why all this Stanwyck. I meant her at the starting point and then we move to another. I just mentioned Maggie Smith and she was overlooked.

What I meant was from beginning of thread was:

Name an actor and we name the films. After we name our fav films of that actor, then we supply new actor.

Do you mind if we go back to Maggie Smith. I am sorry, I don't know much about Glenn Ford. So actually choose whichever you want to repsond to. I hope Maggie first. I would love to know which films come to your mind of hers.

It's a great exchange of ideas. Hey at least I 'm learning a lot about about Stanwyck. Which is why I made her the first choice. If thread changes so be it Ok with me but I think it better if we just name our fav films of previous actor named and then when finished we name new actor/actress.
