I loved all those films you mentioned of Dunnaway who has always been one of my favs and is why I went to see her in person when she was on tour with Master Class.
I think we don't see her in leading role because of the difficulty she is too work with. That is so sad. And a loss to the arts. Now she does these bit parts but still has it in her to carry a pic. No doubt in my mind.

Don't forget to tell us an actor/actress to follow up with.
CelluloidKid mentioned a few. I'll take Marilyn.
Some Like it HOt.
Niagara.
Bus Stop.
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
And many more.....
Now I give you Maggie Smith.
So tell the film you like of her and then give us an actor for us to respond to. That is how I meant the thread. Give us someone you like and you don't respond until we do. Cause I think it would be interesting t see if the films we choose are the ones you may have thought of when you thought of the performer. For example, I am wondering if someone will come up with what I am thinking of for Maggie Smith. Peace all.

I could not believe my eyes when I saw Roger Rabbit was to be shown with Hook and The Bodygaurd. Yes indeed a new low.
As for those who don't like Oscar month, I understand. To each their own. We all have those months were we think What are They Thinking. But in the end TCM is just great period. I think most would agree.

I guess one of the reason's the Oscar fascinates me is that is what my first handicap as a child for which films to pick.
Today as an adult, I see films that suddendly are up for nine or ten awards, films that I may have overlooked and suddenly find an interest in. I agree that they do not validate a film. But since these nominatioins come from the film industry itself, I do admit, I rely on it to an extent.
The history and it's shifts fascinate me.
The trivia is fun for me. I find it most interesting that Hollywood wants people to be gorgeous and slender, and yet it hands out its highest honor, especially during the last ten years, to those who make themselves most unrecognizable and downright homely, a la Theron and Swank.
As far as awards. Most businesses that we all work for have awards. Especially during the Christmas season with employee of the year, employee of the month, etc.
Most industries have awards.
And Oscar is hollywoods. I am not as fascinated by it as I was years ago but I still love it.
I never would have seen Fargo, one of my favs had it not been for the attention the academy brought it, and Frances won Best Actress, a performance I would have missed. So, they do influence me. I think many others would agree.

4 and 6 are only ones left. Now going to bed if I can stop checking this board. Hey, look at my thread about 2000 on classics that I just started. Looking for thoughts.
Good job here.
Already working on tomorrow's trivia. I'll stump you SCSU if it's the last thing I ever. Because, franky, my friend, I give a damn!!!

What since 20000 do you think will find its way to classic genre? I'm interested in others takes to see how well we think standards have fallen or risen or remained idle? Its all subjective anway. What say you?
The Pianist
Lord of the Rings
Brokeback Mountain
There Will Be Blood
Chicago
Hotel Rwanda
Motorcycle Diaries
Babel
Frieda
Ray
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Being Julia
and many more I think. Some overlooked now but may be percieved differently in time.

Excellent. 1, 4, 6 are left. Going to bed now. Check answers tomorrow and I am making a difficult trivia of oscar best pics for tomorrow. This is too easy today. LOL. Take care and night all. Robert

Breakfast at Tiffanys?
Silly guess but dead tired and going to bed now. More tomorrow. Good job on Oscar trivia.
-
I can't believe you came up with those two when the other and last one is easier. Damn. You are good. Keep in mind the other person accomplished this twice which makes it very easy to guess.
Now about my guess on your classic question. I have to go see if you looked at my guess yet.
-
you got me there in a way. The question is to see how many you can name. But I would give you bonus points if you get them all. Actually it has happened five times, but twice to one of the same people, which is why I am going with four. Orsen is one, but don't count your tickets or bonus points or rights to brag yet. LOL
-
any movies of this year that you think will be classic in time gone by, like for our grandchildren when a ticket stub will cost 47.00.
I think Atonement may make it.
And There Will Be Blood.
did not get to see that many new releases this year.
-
Of Human Bondage.
I would die if I were right on one clue.
And you said I was wrong but did not give another clue other than to say not to think about it. I may have to take away your SAG card. LOL.
-
you get a year's supply of tickets to any and all movies in Boston if you answer number 7 correctly. If you don't live here, you get my good wishes. Peace,Robert Michael
-
I hope this is something new.
Tell us your favorite, or one of your favorite actors and actresses. Do not tell any film.
We respond in relating to you our favorite movie with that person. Hopefully this gives good exchange in ideas.
I'll start.
Barbra Stanwyck

Goldfinger.
And hey SCSU...tell the others perhaps about why the other thread was closed and that this is the only one for the game so there are not three as some of us had disussed to eliminate confusion. thanks, Rober Michael.
-
Excellent.
Damn that is my shortest response ever. LOL
-
You sir are correct. Now get busy with the others. LOL
-
The Sting?
Ok. I'll clock in later to see. LOL. Thanks Norbell. Hmmmmmm.....I keep thinking on this.
-
The Letter (absolutely)
Z or Alphabet Soup.
-
I AGREE ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. Because the other one this week did not have much participation and I think there was confusion. Hell I did not know there are 3. Let's have one. Peace, Robert Michael

Hope you don't mind. Last weekend some wrote me and said they enjoyed these kinds of questions. I hope you don't mind my passion of Oscar. Kind of silly in the big scheme of things but it does give many of us great converastion material. So with that in mind of 31 days of Oscar.
1) Three films have won 11 Oscars. The most for any film. What are the three movies?
2) What two films won 3 of 4 acting prizes?
3) Only once did a film have two winners in best directory category. What film?
4) What person won 4 Oscars in one single year. The most for any winner, any given year.
5) What brother and sister are only two to have won Acting Oscars.
6). What foreign language film has the most nominations and how many?
7) How many of the four different people can you name that have been nominated for writing, directing, and acting?
8) What is only TV movie to be later made by a major studio and go on to win Best Picture?

What is your fav twist in a plot that stunned you.

Atonement is excellent. I won't give anything away but the best 6 minutes of film this entire year were the last of that movie in an extraordinary way. For a director to allow 6 minutes of an actress giving a monologue with the camera only on her face is very trust worth and only Redgrave could pull that off. I want it on DVD when it comes out just to watch that scene over and over again. Damn, I love movies. LOL.
