Celluloid...you got one. Babs for Funny Girl and for Evergreen from A Star is Born. The other is going to make you kick yourself because their is a great hint about the winner and though I should not give it, I will. One of her oscars will be shown today. Now can you get it? LOL.
-
CELLULOID.... I am having fun with you. Now pay attention my friend. You are cracking me up. Christine did not win best actress. Good info on your part but here is the question once again, (I can't believe you are tearing threw books, you will slap yourself when you get them),
Key is two ladies who have won, not only nominated, but won Best Actress and then also won another oscar in other catergory. Good luck. I'll give answer soon if you are ready to tear your boos up. It's so easy. And so common knowledge. LOL.
-
Theresa Wright did win for Mrs. Miniver. Check it out.
As for the other answer Celluloid, I am going to give a while for seeing if someone can guess, who are two ladies that one best actress and won another oscar for catergory other than acting. C'mon you film nuts. LOL.
P. S. Warren is always hot but in my next life I am coming back as Antonio Sabator jr's tanning bed. He better role over every ten minutes. Whoops too much info. LOL.
-
Surprised no one could finish this. The last couple father/daughter to win were the Coppola's. Sophia many forget did win for screenplay.
-
I have made a lot of posts. Thanks for tolerting me. I'm like a kid with a new toy. Just came here yesterday and am wanting badly to know who you would vote for if you had a ballot?
I have to watch superbowl so may not see answers till much later. Keep them coming.
I'll start.
Supp Actor TOM WILKINSON
Supp Actress RUBY DEE
Actress MARIE COTILLARD
Actor DANEIL DAY LEWIS
PICTURE THERE WILL BE BLOOD...SAME FOR DIRECTOR

great question.... I can not sit through Schindler again as it kills me. Only saw it once.
Before I answer, I loved Cabaret which lost to Godfather understandably, and loved Brokback which lost not understandably to Crash. And I can't believe Streetcar Named Desire lost.
But my fav winner is AMADEUS with Schindler coming in second and Lawrence of Arabia third.

What is the longest gap between wins for a perfomer who has won twice? If Christie wins she wil have won her firs and second 42 years apart which is amazing.
Side note: I thought she had it wrapped up. Now not so sure, that speech she gave and what she wore at the SAGS is not what the academy likes. I know we are not supposed to judge on that. But I have a stinking feeling that Marie Coutillard, poor spelling on my part, may get the nod. Better perfomance and many are wondering about who she is. This is how we would find out. Why oh why did Julie die that hair and wear a pant suit? Damn.
Oh back to the question. LOL
-
Celluloid you crack me up. You are correct in your info. But re-read my question if that was what you were responding to. Beatty slept with a lot of oscar ladies but he himself is not a lady. LOL.
The question is: can you name two BEST ACTRESS winners who also won another Oscar but not for acting. Damn he was hot in Heaven Can Wait. And Julie Christie was astonisging.
-
I hate to dwell on the negative but I am curious as to who you think won an oscar and it is plain silly. I want to ask at another time your opinion on who won that you thought most deserving.
For now, I say Helen Hunt had no business winning. What has she done lately. Nothing worthy, that's for damned sure. To think she is an oscar winner kills me. She was the same character she played called Jamie in that tv show who's name I am glad to forget. No range.
Nicholson was great. And so was Kinnear. For Hunt it the title of the film sums up her career, it's As Good As It Gets.

Here I am writing a book and forgot Moore. I will have to give you credit in the book.
Funny I was approched to write this. I have a side column where I write once a week for paper regarding sports. That is my biggest passion. Film second. I wrote a piece in the arts section for Sunday called Silence is Golden on silencing women in film This has been a horrific year for women in film, the worst since 1993 when they gave the statue to Hunter for not speaking. Hence, the title and arch of my article. Next thing I know I am paid in advance to write this. Well they also know I run contest every year at various theatres here in Boston. Last year not one person could name the 12 African American winners because no one thought of Charlize Theron.
By the way can you name two women who have won two oscars, one each for acting and the other for another category. Both are best actresses for one of their oscars.
-
Now that is one hell of an answer. I can not believe you did that. Reason is this: almost everyone remembers the women. And you are the first who has mentioned Foxx and I have asked this question countless times.
Everyone but you forgot Collateral. See if you can guess the women and the two people who won neither.
-
Can you name all the oscar nominees througout the years who ever nominated like Cate Blanchett this year in two categories for acting.
Only twice has it happened that two different performers lost both, who are they. Bonus points if you guess those two. Good luck. (not sure if this is a hot topic but since my other got moved here, I hope it's ok)
-
mr6666, I just saw what you wrote under my question regarding will Ruby Dee make 13? I am new here and should not have asked two questions in one thread. LOL. I am so medicated. I had brain surgery, an aneurysm not too long ago and am home recupperating and have a lot of time on my hands and get confused.
I appreciate you thinking this is a hot topic. Are there guidelines anywhere that I can read so I know where to post?
As for the topic, I did not mean to sound as if I was correcting you. But when it was moved, the other answers were left behind. I appreciate your help even if i did not come off that way. Just confused.
-
OK WE HAVE THEM. GOOD. AND YES CHARLIZE IS THE ONE MOST MISS. Ask her if she is African American? This is why I love this question it, keeps us aware we need to think outside he box.
There have been some other suggestions, but as I said, winners in competitive catergories.
Wow, glad it's over. I'll come up with another.
But I am confused. I put them in trivia and they end up here. Not sure why. Oh well.
-
I had started this thread in Trivia and it got moved. I don't know how.
And I see someone called it a thread for films portraying real people.
This is confusing to me because yesterday was my first day here and I don't know if
there are moderators or not.
I write only because when I went to check answers this morning it said it had been moved along with my question about African American winners.
Fine with me. But that was not the question I was curious about.
I am wondering how many people you can name, not films, which can be a good thread, but not the one I intended, who won oscars for portraying real people. One person named 32. That's great. I have 47 so far. I keep wondering if I missed any. Thus, I as the question.
-
is it The Libeled Lady?
-
Can you name the 12 differnt performers, (Denzen counts only once though he won twice, this is why I ask who are the 12 different peformers) who won oscars in competitive acting who are African American. I usually stump people with this. I asked in trivia area, but thought I'd ask here as well. Not to many answers there. And most people only name one person. I just signed up today so am still trying to figure out the dynamics of the community.
Name all you want to name. I am going to bed but will check back tomrrow. Excited to see if anyone can get all 12. Most do not. It's kind of trick in a way.
Peace Robert Michael.

Peter for Ulee's Gold. He was robbed of the gold.
Now Peter Fonda or Jane Fonda. You knew it was coming. LOL
-
If one watches how he matured from Ten Things I hate about You to Casanov and The Patriot and Four Feathers and Brokeback and Candy, then one will see what my fav aspect is of an actor and that is one that never repeat the same character or performance. I used to love Pacino in Dog Day Afterrnoo days but now he is Pacino in every role.
I can only think of one other actor today who can play it as Heath, and that is Gael Bernal Garcia. I know Brokeback may not have been they type of film many can appreiciate. I think it appeals to both gay and straight. I know gays who did not like it.
I was astounded that two men who were so alone and had no one for long time found comfort in each other. I don't think men at that time in that locale knew what was happening to them. I think the nuances of the film rather than the scripted lines, were the main message. And the cinematography is the best since Crouching Tiger, IMO, of course.
-
Both are correct, except the question was for leading role. It's amazing Antony Hopkins won that, the books say 22 minutes, who knows, and he was being campagined by the studio for supp actor to which he removed his name and wanted lead. This discouraged the studio especially in ligh that the movie was released in February and a month later were the awards for the year before. How could anyone remember this movie a year from now, so they thought. And he won. It is a testament to his achievement because as he is not onscreen you still feel his presence.
I saw Straight again last night in Nework. She really holds up well over time. I think Holden should have received the award vs. Finch, but both were supber. This and only A Streetcar Name Desire are the only films to win 3 of 4 acting awards. Interesting. I look for the day when a film can take the top six honors. Wonder if it will ever happen. It should have with Streetcar. Brando was sheer perfection.

I'm new here as of today and just saw this thread.
Heath has been on my mind non-stop. I used to think it unrealistic that people would mourn those they did not know, a la Evlis, which borders fantatic. Then I found myself mourning this loss. I guess it's because there are so many reasons he touched me. My father commited suicide and I have devoted my life to working with gay teens as I am also gay. The highest suicide rate in this country is gay teens struggling with coming to terms of their being homosexual. I am also Christian and a sports addict. I love and live in the name of Christ. I won't be judged, you can, but it won't be accepted.
As a film lover, I said at the release, what many have said sense, that he reminded me of a youngm Marlon Brando. This is odd for me. But he is the only actor in who's film career I have every DVD. After seeing Monster's Ball, I had to see more of him as I thought at the time he was just a teen heart throb. He did more for the human agenda than so many others in such a long time. I say human agenda, as I do not believe in a black, Hispanic, women's, or any agenda other than the human one which is an umbrella under which we hold together.
I would have like to have known him. I was blown away at how he was 25 at the time of makin Brokeback and aged in the film over 20 years. So convincing.
When Daniel Day Lewis, at the SAG awards, spoke of the last scene in the movie, I felt he was speaking to me as I can not watch that scene without thinking it is the finest moment ever on cinema scope, in my opinioin. I have said this long before Ledger died.
I find it incredible that Phelp of Kansas wanted to picket the funeral as he does everyone who is gay or moves the gay's toward progress.
I wrote a campagin and was able to get 3200 plus signature sent to Fox News about John Gibson's laughing at the death. He said he was sorr for those offended. He did not say he was sorry. I urge everyone to boycott them until they give him the pink slip.
I ask you one question: if your son or daughter died and was mocked at on the air, what would you do?
Sincerely,
Robert Michael
-
Take a guess. I was astonished when I found out.
-
Excellent. Now we have all five.
I can't believe you knew that about Beatric Straight. Everyone says Judi Dench. You are only person I know who has guessed that correctly.
Congrat. handing you a five dollar bill. Don't spend in all one place.
-
I messed up the question and thread badly. As I said I had brain surgery. There are 47 different winners who have won portraying a real person. A few have been named. Name as many as you want. I am going to name quite a few here, keep in mind it is becoming the trend lately.
Here goes. Just a short list of many.
Patti Duke (no one ever guesses her)
Anne Bancroft for same film
Hang Ngor
Katherine Hepburn
Forrest Whitaker
Maureen Stapleton
Jamie Foxx
Now see what you can follow up with. 47 in total.

In your Oscar Opinion who should not have won?

I hated Million Dollar Baby as well but can't go into it. Too hard on me as we have someone like that in our family. My neice. And her life is worth living.
As for Marisa, I demand a recount....she was only American, the other four British. I spit nails too. Redgrave or Joan Plowright, anyone but Tomei.
