  1. Favorites from the 80's: When Harry Met Sally Baby Boom Radio Days Hannah and Her Sisters Zelig Tootsie
  2. Vivien so fabulous as Katie Scarlett, but I think Margaret Sullavan may have been great as well.
  3. Loved this movie, but cannot remember the name and little details. A woman who was working in a WWII orphans home continually seeks to find her own son. At the end of the movie more children are brought into the orphanage and she goes down the line and finds her son. LIttle to go on, but hope the experts on this board can solve this one! Thanks so much.
  4. Yankee Doodle Dandy!! This was his movie all the way with brother and sister, Jeanne, very involved as well.
  5. I'd give those folks a thousand years from now: The Best Years of Our LIfe The Heiress Strangers on a Train Yankee Doodle Dandy Radio Days
  6. Greatest thrill of all was meeting Judy Garland in June, 1967 at Bay Back Rail Station in Boston when she arrived to perform a free concert on the Boston Common. My aunt somehow knew when her train was arriving. It was just us and a small group of the press waiting for her. She was with her son Joey and stopped to talk with us. Joey kind of kept straying away here and there and she looked around occasionally saying, "where's my boy"? What impressed me the most was her sense of humor. I was astounded by that--had never read previously how witty she was. Reporters and, occasionally my aunt chimed in, kept asking her questions for about 15 minutes and most all her comments were hilarious. She was cold sober, looked fabulous, and seemed just like any mother vacationing with her son. I attended her free concert with thousands of others the next night. She was in top form and sang nearly nonstop for hours. Just absolutely amazing.
  7. Back to King's Row--An entire back lot at Warner's was made to recreate those gorgeous houses in Kings Row. It still exists today--recently used for Gilmore Girls and can be seen on the studio tour.
  8. Alan J. Pakula died in car accident in pre-production for Doris Kearns Goodwin--"No Ordinary Time" about FDR' White House. Had been at Hyde Park, home of FDR to check on filming scenes there. Too bad no one ever finished it.
  9. Watch on the Rhine--ending originally changed due to studio stupidity. Per studio order--verved from stage play and filmed ending with main character killed due to his "murderous" behavior. However, changed it again for final edit and did not end with death of main actor. Studio didn't notice or didn't care.

  11. Chicken Every Sunday with Celeste Holme and Dan Dailey It's a Big Country--array of stars in vignettes celebrating 1950 in the US
  12. The Bad Seed--not changed due to preview, but ending added due to studio bosses' perception that audiences were generally stupid/psychotic and had to have "evidence" that Patty McCormack was still alive--actors filmed "curtain calls".
  13. I have been using "The Heiress" for years in class when teaching family dynamics. Also, particularly love Olivia in "To Each His Own"-fabulous "lost" film, "Hold Back the Dawn"--great film, has hot scene with Boyer, "In this Our Life" with Bette Davis, and of course, as Melanie in GWTW. 14. James MacArthur was hot, hot, hot. Also had crushes on Gene Kelly and of course, Clark Gable.
  15. Forgot to add how wonderful Virginia Grey was in her bit part in "The Women" as a salesgirl with Joan. Saw an interview with her recently where she states she traveled twice by train from NYC to LA for that part and that it took about 3 days each time to film that 5min part!!
  16. How about William Powell as butler in "My Man Godfrey".
  17. I agree that it is a wonderful movie. I bought the video on Amazon as I did not have much hope for DVD release. Particularly love James Dunn and Lloyd Nolan performances.
  18. I bought the Hitch DVD with the older films for $9, put it in a Yankee swap at Christmas and it was the most sought after gift! What a great deal. Message was edited by: lidash
  19. Agree with "Holiday" and "Affair to Remember"!! Have to add--"Arsenic and Old Lace", "Penny Serenade", "Suspicion", "North by Northwest", and "My Favorite Wife". Message was edited by: lidash
  20. Wow, talk about subtle sexual themes--just watching Johnny and Maureen together and absolutely nothing explicit.
  21. "Song of Bernadette" is my favorite along with "Since You Went Away"--great scenes with Robert Walker.
  22. I think the duchess keeps stating "L'amore, l'amore, l'amore.
  23. I love this film for many reasons--Joan Crawford, Virginia Weidler, Norma Shearer, Lucile Watson, Rosalind Russell, the unique colorized fashion show, great sets, and also the "lessons" learned. Message was edited by: lidash
  24. Still trying to figure out why "The Farmers Daughter" Oscar winner for Loretta had not found its way onto DVD!!?
  25. One of the best aspects of "Mother Wore Tights" is the fun, warm relationship of Dan Dailey and Betty Grable is projected on screen.
