  1. I'm sorry Cine Maven, a big faux pas in light of what I had to say! I have edited the comment to avoid confusion. Thelma
  2. *"The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari"(1919)* has one of the most remarkable endings. The entire film is done in a twisted German Expressionist design. At the end, it is made clear why; the whole film was narrated and visualized by an insane man in an asylum! Thelma
  3. (In response to johnbabe) To say that the ending to *Casablanca* is "stupid", raises questions. That Bogart didn't get the (very pretty) girl? That's understandable. But the part about the police chief, who was officially employed by the Vichy govt. ( a sell-out French puppet state to Hitler), shooting a German officer, symbolically dropping a bottle of Vichy water into the waste basket, and leaving with Bogart to join the Free French resistance in equatorial Africa, is what defines the ending and the message of the film. Casablanca is about resistance to evil and being willing to stick your neck out to do it. The ending is thus a message of resistance, at a time when the war was still on and Hitler not yet defeated. Only a Nazi, Vichy sympathiser or someone ignorant of history would be disappointed with, or make light of the loaded political implications of the ending to *Casablanca* Thelma
  4. I am gratified whenever I see someone of Rose's age and generation take such an interest in classic film. I am sure she could be doing other things than hosting on TCM. Her heart is in the right place. She also has a whole lifetime ahead of her to gain more knowledge and insight. I hope that she inspires other young people to take interest in what we have to offer. Thelma
