Thanks, FF! So far no one is laughing.

I also like the different versions of "A Christmas Carol", except the tacky ones modernized
for television. For example, there was one starring Susan Lucci. AWFUL!! I couldn't get
past the first 1/2 hour. What was I thinking to even attempt to watch it?!
You are correct about Charlie being made for tv. Oh, well. I like it so..o..o much!! Bg

I like "Holiday Inn" but my favorite is: (don't laugh)
"A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS"
I am a huge fan of Charles Schulz and all of the Charlie Brown holiday movies.

"White Heat" and "Wizard of Oz" are certainly two of my choices.A few more are:
"THE CHAMP"(1931) (Big Wallace Beery & little Jackie Cooper)
"KING KONG" ( 1933) "It was "beauty" killed the beast"!
"DARK VICTORY" - Bette Davis lying on the bed as the shadow flows over her
"WUTHERING HEIGHT"- Heathcliffe holding Kathy at the window until she slumps in his arms
"LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN" - The look on Gene Tierney's face as she watches "Danny" drown
(cold chills, but a wonderful piece of acting)
"MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE" (1962) The reaction of Sinatra to the off screen suicide is priceless.
"CITIZEN KANE" - "Rosebud"
"THE STRANGER" - Orson Welles being "skewered" by the swordsman on the clock
There are so many good ones. Bg

Cellkd....It is a very funny movie. The mold was thrown away after Tony Randall was
made. No one quite like him!

hlyw....Hopefully, you will be able to see "The Suspect" some time. "The Big Clock"
is terrific. It has become a little joke in our house. When I don't know what to watch,
my husband says there is always "T.B.C." and he is right!

Charles Laughton is "the star of ANY month" as far as I am concerned.
Genius actor.
One of my favorite roles of his is in the movie, "The Suspect"(1944), co-starring Ella Raines.
On the edge of your seat suspense. If you are a fan and have not seen this, you are in
for a treat.

ChiO & Arakin. Both of you make good points in regard to "intelligence" of today's
audiences. Reality tv. has definitely taken over many of the channels that are available
to us. That takes us back to the "colosseum mentality". Does this type of
programming make the viewers feel better about themselves because they believe they
would never make fools of themselves like the participants on the show or do they want
to be a participant themselves?
Do viewers become too immersed in programs? Maybe. However, how many times have
we yelled at the tv. during sport, game, political, etc. shows. Most of us compromise our
intelligence at one time or another. Media is powerful and getting "sucked in" is a
"reality". (Pardon the pun)
An adviser told me a long time ago that sometimes when we are depressed or anxious,
doing something mindless can be a distraction. Such as watching a mundane tv. show.
So as far as "Intelligence" in today's audiences is concerned, maybe a better description
would be "discretion". (power of decision of choice).
Those that do not use or are incapable of using discretion are unfortunate. There is so
much media with quality available, it is a shame. Whatever choice we make we
are stuck with it. Hopefully, some will become bombarded enough to choose more
wisely next time.

"Are people ever who they present themselves to be"?
I think it depends on the individual and the person's personality, disposition, ego. I like to
think of myself as a person who adapts to a situation and, thus, reacts a certain way.
I also would like to believe that there is enough intelligence in a majority of people who
are faced with media presentations, to discern the true from the false.
With the influx of hundreds of tv. channels, a plethora of magazines, books, & newspapers,
our choices are endless. I say, choose wisely.
