The First Film That Comes to Mind...

dungaree - "Grapes of Wrath" nw: FLANNEL -
I, personally, think Laura and "the clock" represented emotional obsession. His obsession with beautiful objects. The clock was a symbol of the destruction of a beautiful thing and the fact that he was so protective of these objects, his obsession became his demise. (Irony) I definitely think there is a connection between the red-coated monkey and Sal Mineo. Mineo was like "a pet", if you will. Dependent and clinging. Dean made a last gesture of protection by protecting him like a child would protect a stuffed animal they loved.

P & D....Not a problem. Got it!

P & D....I wasn't talking about Gordon Pinsent. I was agreeing about the movie "Colossus:...."as being a little gem of a movie. I chose Lee Tracy, "The Best Man", early on in the thread. I haven't seen "Mars Attack" or "Canadian Bacon". I like Popcorn & Sno-Caps.

And.....he wanted Laurence Olivier or Ronald Coleman for the G. Peck part. I would liked to have seen Sir Laurence in the part. "Valli" is not a favorite of mine, at all. TCM also showed "Witness for the Prosecution", back to back with "P.Case" and Robert O. said that William Holden was wanted for Tyrone Power's part. That would have probably worked. He was busy elsewhere. -
FF....You are talking double talk. V - Gwen Verdon

Cine...I agree. Forbin Project is a little gem! Eric Braeden is the star. And now...he plays Victor on the Y/R soap. Go figure. He has probably made millions on the little screen.

Thanks! According to Random House Webster's College Dict.: wheeler-dealer: a clever or crafty person who devises intricate, highly profitable schemes and transactions, as in business or politics I guess that says it all! I suppose, as you said, the motive is the key.

Casablancalover(me too, BTW) It is my all time favorite movie. And now....we have chosen the SAME presidential portrayer, Lee Tracy. When I first read the thread, I immediately thought of L.Tracy. I find it rewarding to see actors from the 30s who played very different types of roles, play a more mature role with conviction. Lee Tracy usually played the fast-talking wheeler and dealer.

I wouldn't say I am a avid fan, but the movies I have seen I really liked. FARGO - Frances M. is fabulous. Her relationship with her husband is so sweet. The line that cracks me up in a macabre sort of way "Did you put your friend in the woodchipper?" HUDSUCKER PROXY - Paul Baby(adore him) and J.J. Leigh is very glamorous. BLOOD SIMPLE - M.Emmet Walsh steals the film, in my opinion. OH, BROTHER....Clever the way they work in the "Odyssy" situations. I bought the soundtrack immediately. THE BIG LIBOWSKI & RAISING ARIZONA - My son highly reccommends them. Should I take a chance? He has a copy of both.

moiraf....My DVR just finished recording it a little while ago. I will be glad to get back to you after I watch it. Sounds intriguing.

Thanks, ChiO! In "The Truman Show", the manipulation by the show's staff is definitely degrading. Degrading to "Truman". He has no knowledge his life is going out to millions. This program is totally fake and yet the powers that be consider it a very real situation because of the lack of inhibition by the main character. Truman has no script, no retakes, no makeup, etc. Today, we call reality shows "real", but, are they? The participants are real people and the locations are real. The rest is scripted and edited. In "Network", Howard Beale is manipulated with unadulterated avarice. This character is is going mad and the television network takes full advantage of this. The audience loves seeing the total breakdown. If that weren't enough he promises to commit suicide on the air. It reminds me of Madame L. knitting while waiting for the guillotine to start hanging the aristocracy. Was Beale mad...like a fox!? Is he the manipulator at this juncture. He took the air-time attention to rave on about the industry, at which point, the network began to worry. Message was edited by: Bargar -
