  1. Ok, here goes! This is a 1943 movie in which a character has a last name which is the same as the first name of the character he played on television.
  2. Is it "Absence of Malice"? A particular favorite of mine. I am a devoted fan of Paul Newman and I thought this was one of his best performances.
  3. I hate to admit this, Tracey...but yes they did heat up. The machine had metal clamps connected to cords, which were plugged in, and the heat curled the hair. Torture, sheer torture!! The movie was a little before my time but the torture chamber stayed around for a while.
  4. Yes, Tracey...I remember reading that as well. It reinforces what I said before. He was such a fine actor. He was understated and subtle but I was mesmerized by all the little nuances of his performances. Yet, in his later movies, you could almost feel the struggles he was having. R.I.P. Monty Clift.
  5. "A Countess From Hong Kong" "ANASTASIA" or "ANNA KARENINA"
  6. Oops! I did a "B" instead of a "C".(so sorry, Raining....) Ok, I will do a D - "DECEMBER BRIDE"
  7. Yes, they did do a good job! I think because the director was determined to get it in the theatres. Your point is well-taken about the Jean Harlow film. Another film that was interrupted was "Elephant Walk". It started out with Peter Finch & Vivien Leigh. V.L. got sick during production and so they substitued Elizabeth Taylor. However, they used long shots of V.L. taken before her illness.
  8. "Duel At Diablo" THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO or THE THREE MUSKETEERS
  9. "Young Man With A Horn" WORDS & MUSIC or THREE LITTLE WORDS
  10. Hi Judy.... I agree with your choices for sure. Some of my favorites are: THE OTHER THE OTHERS VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED PSYCHO THE THING FRANKENSTEIN(1931) KING KONG(1933) INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS(1956) THE INNOCENTS THE INVISIBLE MAN(1933) THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES(1939) MISERY ROSEMARY'S BABY
  11. Hi Stephen... Natalie Wood died in 1981 and the film was in limbo for 2 yrs. Ultimately, the director decided to use body doubles and Natalie Wood sound-alikes to complete the film in 1983. It must have been a little eerie for the cast & crew.
  12. I agree Ben... The scene in J.A.N. was gut-wrenching! At this point in his career, he was in bad shape and the emotion he showed on screen was due to his delicate physical condition. He is a favorite of mine and whenever I view one of his movies I can't help but think, it is such a waste!
  13. marked down - "The Little Shop Around the Corner" nw. - recession
  14. Is it FRANCES FARMER? (I promise no search engines)
  15. Hi, ILRM! Going back to your original post(5/14) - "pick a Frank" movie, watch it, and tell favorite Frank moment. I chose "SOME CAME RUNNING". I really didn't have one favorite moment. He was definitely the pivotal character in the movie. As soon as he comes home, he disrupts the complacency of his home town. He ran the gamut of emotions: disgust, lust, anger, frustration, resignation. It is a long movie but the other actors were so good(except Martha Hyer (blah). Dean Martin - good ole' boy pal Shirley MacClaine - child-like floozy(wonderful in the role) Arthur Kennedy - Smarmy/hypocritical older brother(excellent as always) So...there you go!!.
  16. VERY definitely, "THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES"! There is not a bad perfomance in this movie and it certainly deals with the fighting men returning home trying to pick up where they left off. When I watched it I could "feel" the awkwardness of the families. The script conjured up so many emotions from each character in the film. Definitely on my "A" list. "STALAG 17" is another of my favorites. William Holden is excellent. The characters are so well drawn and the actors certainly made the most of their portrayals. "SOPHIE'S CHOICE" and "THE DEERHUNTER" are excellent films with heart-rending stories. I don't think they have been shown on TCM. Maybe you have already seen them. If not, hopefully you will find the time.
  17. Another film starring Montgomery Clift is "I CONFESS". This film is directed by Alfred Hitchcock and it doesn't get discussed as much as his more popular films. I think you will enjoy it. It also stars Anne Baxter, Karl Malden, Brian Aherne. I find the movie to be riveting in a quiet way. The supporting cast is excellent. If you are intrigued, give it a try.
