Francis Ford Coppola...Bram Stokers Dracula!!!
Bargar replied to AvaG92260's topic in Films and Filmmakers
AvaG...I am a big fan of this Dracula rendition as well. F.F.Coppola is one the finest directors we have. There is always that little extra in some of the scenes, as in lighting, sound, etc. The wardrobe is this version was exquisite. The story of "Dracula" is a fascinating one. We have seen so many different interpretations and then when something like this comes along, it is a welcomed change. Don't get me wrong, however, because I like the "Bela" versions. Unfortunately for him, the typecasting wouldn't go away. I didn't see the T.Cruise/ B.Pitt movie, but I did read the A. Rice book.(She has gone to the other end of the spectrum with her religious fiction, hasn't she. I haven't read any of those). Thanks for posting this as I have enjoyed everyone's comments. Bg (tiny correction: It is Gary Oldman not Goldman) -
Again, a good choice, Mongo. Despite his persona, I have always been fascinated by his acting. He is definitely a presence on the screen. I think his perfomance in "M" was outstanding, albeit a disturbing movie. I consider him "the man you love to hate".

Hi, Cinemaven! Do you want us to guess the Power/O'Neal movie or are you looking for the title. Either way, it is "DIPLOMATIC COURIER". (You knew that, right?!)

The actor all the way on the left is Don Beddoe. He was in many movies and also in later years, did many roles on tv. series. I remembered he played Dagwood's neighbor and so I researched him under that. Check him out and all the acting credits he has are amazing.

My definitive list is: CASABLANCA, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, ANY BOGIE & BACALL, IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, ANY TRACY & HEPBURN, and I am sure there are many more.

AMEN, AMEN, Visualfeast! My family and I have been saying EXACTLY this for years. That's why I am always looking for independent movies to see. They are coming to the forefront more & more. Original screenplays, book adaptations, etc. instead of thriller movies pts. l,2,3,4, ad nauseum. I have to admit I am a big fan of the Lord of the Rings & Harry Potter franchises. Also, Godfather l & 2 were good. Message was edited by: Bargar

Unfortunately, they did do a remake of "The Women" called "The Opposite Sex" which starred June Allyson, Joan Collins, Ann Sheridan, Leslie Nielsen, Agnes Moorhead, Joan Blondell, Delores Gray, Charlotte Greenwood. (1956) A musical!! I am sorry, Tricia..When I came back to this thread today, I noticed my post didn't make sense. I hope this does! Message was edited by: Bargar Message was edited by: Bargar

The worst film ever to win Best Picture and why . . .
Bargar replied to Selk's topic in General Discussions
ILRM, You are so right about "the idiots" in regard to Orson Welles' films in general. I think your Mom's statement about Louis Jourdan is hysterical. Do you think she was confused and thought it was Maurice Chevalier?! "The Quiet Man" is a favorite of mine and it definitely should have won over the "circus" picture. It has such wonderful character actors and John Wayne and beautiful Maureen O'Hara. So romantic! I have enjoyed this little exchange. Soon....Bg -
The worst film ever to win Best Picture and why . . .
Bargar replied to Selk's topic in General Discussions
Good topic, Selk! I always enjoy a entertaining musical. HOWEVER....I certainly do not believe that "GIGI" should have won although it wasn't the "worst" film to have ever won. When you consider that "Touch of Evil"(Orson Welles triumph) and "Vertigo" were released at the same time as "Gigi", and weren't even nominated, that was a major oversight, in my opinion. Considering J. Stewart's dark perfomance and Hitchcock's direction, it puzzled me. -
"Carrie" "HELLO, DOLLY!" or "THE MATCHMAKER"(1958)

Bronx...I agree with you about Sally F. in "Murphy's Romance", but I am sorry that about your "insecuities". Anything I can do? I also liked S.F. in "Norma Rae". The ending WAS perfect. We should do a thread on "perfect endings".

Me too, Bronx...I thought he was sexy in that movie. I would have been very disappointed if he hadn't gotten "the girl" at the end. (Even it was Sally Field) Ooops, sorry SF lovers.

ILRM..Yes! I respect the dead Dean more than the dead Frank! LOL

I like all the movies mentioned so far. One of my particular favorites is "YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU".(l938) It was adapted from Moss Hart's Pulitzer Prize play. The cast is outstanding. Frank Capra won an academy award for Best Director & the movie won the same for best movie. Check it out. You won't be sorry!

cmvgor - That is impressive. I am wracking my brain on your entry. Hopefully, someone else will solve it. My head hurts.
