  3. What a great idea! Robert and Regis! I like it! Regis definitely has quite a history with movies. Maybe some day.
  4. Took the bait once. Now I am off the hook. Bye, Bye!!!!
  5. Very smart observation, Thelma! In my town, libraries, junior colleges, & museums will show classics occasionally. We have alternatives such as TCM and most DVD rental places have a good selection of "classics. So, basically, we pop our own popcorn, pour a diet soda and sit back and enjoy in the privacy of our homes. Maybe, that's not so bad after all.
  6. Well....I thought the story was amusing & then you spoil it by making it into something disgusting. Not funny, just sad.
  7. I am a fan of "Live With Regis & Kelly" and try to watch or DVR it every am. This morning, Regis was on the topic of classic movies. He talked about a theatre in New York that showed only classics several yrs. ago. One day he noticed the marqee said "Cary Grant". He was curious about the attendance in a theatre such as this so he asked the cashier "how many people do you think are in the audience right now." She answered "just one, but you know him". Regis asked "who is it" and she said "DUSTIN HOFFMAN". The cashier suggested Regis join "Dusty"but he didn't want to disturb Mr. Hoffman because he thought he was probably doing some observational study. Then Regis said "Thank God, we have TCM!!
  8. I am the "Mom" in "webestang's" post and he brings back fond memories. The "Blondie" movies were so much fun. Today, they talk about "chemistry" between couples in movies. I don't know about THAT in these films, but they certainly were excellent together. There were actors who had small parts in some of the movies, such as Glenn Ford & Rita Hayworth. I am sure there were others which don't come to mind at the moment. I would like to see them run on TCM as well. Why not!?
  9. That is very nice of you. I didn't think about that. You get a * for politeness. If ILRM is reading this, a decision could be made. Hope so!
  10. THANKS! All of your comments were a combination of what I was thinking before I posted, so I appreciate your input.

  12. I have a question/comment. Often I have posted "info" or asked for comments and I don't get any feedback. Is it because what I have to say doesn't warrant any repoirtee with other posters. Please know that I am not feeling neglected, just curious. I enjoy this forum. Any thoughts?
  13. Being the "author" of this post, I am delighted you all have stayed with it so long! If you want to continue, we can pass up "q", "u", "x", & "z". Or....we can end it now. Your choice. As I said, it's been fun.
  14. Hey, Carrieliz. Great idea. "Most Handsome Actors". Why don't you start it!
  15. In doing a little research, the screwball was first invented in baseball in the '30s. It is used to throw the batter off and confuse him. So...screwball comedy is a genre in which characters become confused, misled, or disoriented. I think "endearing" comes in when the comedy touches your heart. Such as: "My Man Godfrey" "Sullivan's Travels" "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" "The Lady Eve" (Hey, Weebs. If you can't call, at least post to your MOM
  16. I am such a huge fan of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Especially Cushing who was so versatile. I was delighted when he appeared in "Star Wars". The Hammer films were unsurpassed. A few months ago, I saw "Bram Stoker's Dracula" starring Gary Oldman (1992). I was so impacted by the lush production, but I couldn't decide if I could endure it. It was beautifully filmed but very gory. I am used to tamer versions I suppose. Gary Oldman won an Oscar for his portrayal. I watched it because it was directed by Francis F. Copolla and also starred Anthony Hopkins as Van Helsing. I would be interested in other opinions if you have seen this version.
  17. VERA-ELLEN was a dancer in the late 40s and 50s. She was tiny and athletic in her dance style, but she could also do slow numbers with grace and poise. She partnered with Kelly,Astaire, & O'Connor but also did solo numbers.
  18. Hi Weebs. I am not sure but I think in "Union Pacific", starring your fav,Barbara, there were two trainwrecks. I think, from a little research, they were real trains. Check it out.
  19. Thank you, Poinciana! What a cad our Alfie boy! What an actor our Michael Caine!!
  20. This is one child star who grew up without all the baggage of some of her peers. I will always remember she and Bill ("Bojangles") Robinson dancing up and down the stairs in "The Little Colonel" (1935) Many Happy Returns, Shirley Temple!!
  21. "The Big Clock" is my favorite. Ray Milland is always top-notch. There are, not one,but two very smarmy characters played by the fabulous Charles Laughton & one of the best "bad guys", George McCready. I thought Elsa Lanchester(C.L.'s wife) was perfection. The scenes in the bar where the bartender can produce objects on demand was a clever touch. In fact, I thought the whole production very clever and the climatic scene very tense.
