  1. TCM is not a great foreign movie channel. There are some great pix by Luis Bunuel that you'll never see on TCM. "El", Robinson Crusoe, - he is noted for being Anti-Catholic Church & he was in Some movies but not others. One in particular is being withheld DEATH IN THE GARDEN which is 140 min. They are offering cut versions. Another good one is THE YOUNG AND THE DAMNED which might have been on TCM.

  2. I have the VHS of The Fireball - a great Mickey Rooney part. The funny thing is I was just like him in this movie. Became a great skater - thought I was hot & unbreakable - then it happened - I broke!

Mickey gets polio in the Fireball, I broke my pelvis & damaged a spinal nerve. Which has left me barely able to walk. Marilyn plays a kind of groupie/**** type in which Mickey grabs when he was on top/hot. the adrenalin rush you get from skating is a high & you get confused in your mind to think you are indestructable from the adrenalin. Great Movie!

  3. Rating are important to TCM which is why silents are on Sunday nite which is the deadest spot of the week. Also TCM has been showing more noirs at night & more family oriented Color movies during prime time. Maybe its just me but I can picture WB tech counting every single viewer & what they are... (age, income, male/female etc.) it shows in the sked.

  4. I know this might sound odd to some of you but I can't listen to music when I watch a silent movie. It distracts me & breaks my concentration & then I have to stop. Another thing about METROPOLIS which somebody mentioned. They are showing this way too fast. What is the big rush? Metropolis is a 3hr movie - maybe longer. It needs to be shown at natural speed. If you look at the DVD of Nosferatu on the 2 disc Ultimate Edition you will see it projected at natural speed. Your eye reacts to the image & it clicks in your mind. If the image speeds by too fast = no reaction.

  5. In Europe on early sound films the image was narrower due to the magnetic strip along side so the tops are cut off when shown on tv. Extase (recently shown on TCM) had the top of heads cut off. M & Vampyr also are this way. both the Criterion used the original aspect. Extase is available from Edition FilmMuseum in proper print.

  6. I recorded two versions of Nosferatu off TCM - the first was from Image/Blackhawk films. The other was a Thames version With music by James Bernard. So there are two right there. I like it better than Hollywood or Hammer. Its got mood all over it.

I saw a movie Called "Shadow of the Vampire" which tries to portray the making of Nosferatu. It is really bad. But the person who made it must really like Nosferatu to go thru all the trouble.

Vampyr I like better than Hollywood or Hammer. It takes a bit of getting used to but again the mood is awesome. Timeless VHS is the best I've seen. There is one from Criterion which is reported to be the original aspect ratio. Haven't seen it yet. There is a book in the movie & it has been translated differently. I'm curious what the original writing was.

    Nice pic of Max Schreck!

  7. You're wrong about that & I'll explain why. The whole operation was top secret. When those people stumbled upon it, they all had to die to keep the thing secret. Knox killed Lindfors because he loved her but she had to die so he did it to make sure she didn't suffer. Its not a great movie but at least its original.

  8. We were talking about how film companies become conglomerates & then grow so big & have so many holdings they lose track of what they own. & then they decide to never show these movies on tv for decades. So nobody sees them & people on here talk about them , buy barely watchable bootleg copies- & say: "where are these movies"?

Sony took over Columbia & still with new ownership many titles are not shown. Old Paramount & Universal now owned by MCA are holding hundreds of old movies back from tv.

Now you people keep asking for movies WB has to pay $$ to get, rather than being contented with Gidget twice a month & Andy Hardy. What IS Wrong with you? Won't you ever be happy?

  9. I am looking forward to seeing Patterns, & Broken Blossoms & some of the others already mentioned. & talking about them here.

The version of Broken Blossoms recently shown on TCM was very good tinted & complete. The Thames version was edited so TCM is doing much better to get the complete print. Also the tinting is different.

  10. I have said things on this board that have nothing to do with the people on here. & I was personally attacked & reported (ratted) by cheeseaters. Sorry you dont agree but you gotta respect the truth & thats what I do. truth. it is what it is. not positive or negative. learn to love it.

  11. To straighten out all the confusion, Warner Bros. is a big media monster owning RKO, MGM/UA, Monogram, Allied Artists etc. But they dont use WB on everything they put out as it would reveal too much. So when I say that China's Little Devils is blacklisted, WB is refusing tv play on the movie. TV play being TCM since there is only one old movie channel. Oh well the viewers of TCM are too stupid to notice anything like a blacklist. & even if they do notice there is nothing they can do about it. AMC did not show proper aspect ratio because back then the studios were not ready to remaster them for tv. In addition, TCM now shows 90% fake letterbox proving the studios today are unwilling to provide proper remasters ? no **** - they?re just faking it. Given the choice I would rather see full screen than cropped.

I know most of you love your channel & although I subscribe to it, they have decided to water down the content considerably. I guess I?ll just go along with it for the present as we are stuck with only one old movie channel ? bad as it is, Gidget twice a month there is no choice. I will continue buying stuff from England Region 2 & Germany as with TCM?s new conservative programming I am unlikely to see on TCM.

  12. I bet AMC showed The Men & Blood on The Sun more in one day than TCM has shown them in its entire existence. It just proves my point which I was told I am wrong, BUT you see Gidget is more important to TCM & its viewers so much so we need to see it 2 times a month. Let me get this straight so there is no misunderstanding. Warner Bros. can show any movie ever made on tv if it wants to. Warner Bros. made the rules by which others must abide. If they choose to suppress The Men & Blood on the Sun they are fully capable of doing so since there is only one old movie channel.

  13. When I am logged in I cant read the board & when I hit reply it takes me to the front page - not back to the thread I'm replying to. Then I hit Post Message & nothing happens...

I have recordings of The Men & Blood on The Sun off AMC in the 90's & I have never seen them on TCM. Considering two of the greatest stars of Hollywood: Cagney & Brando its odd to say the least. I have subscribed on & off to TCM for 10 years. I just want to say one more thing. Warner Bros. can show any movie ever made on tv if they want to. So to those who say they cant show this or that due to rights - Warner Bros. Make the rules thru which others must abide.
