Boom! - the widescreen version was on flix a year ago. its a great movie - my favorite liz taylor movie. a great scene where she tries to push a medical device off the deck & it wouldnt move properly. I laughed out loud.

Way Down East is the 1930 reissue edited by DW Griffith. I also own Broken Blossoms - Both of these Alpha Videos are great quality. They try very hard to get complete versions & sometimes
the quality is stepped on. But on the whole I'm very happy to get rare movies for $5 each & some for .99cents! Like White Zombie & The Hoodlum & Blonde Ice. I might buy another dozen Alpha Videos over time as I have planned

I have a tape of Born To Kill from TCM where the scene in which Elisha Cook was killed at that exact moment the movie pixelated. That is definitely censorship.
In addition I never said TCM banned blacklisted movies. They dont ban them. They just dont show them & the subject isnt discussed. I have said it is my opinion WB is refusing tv play of blacklisted pix.

Columbia pix are usually fake letterbox. You can tell right away as the steps of the platform of the statue is missing. The Wrong Man used to be fake letterbox & enough people complained & it was returned to full screen. Kiss Me Deadly is fake letterbox. Columbia pix Strait-jacket, Middle of the Night, Nightfall, Murder by Contract are fake.

Not just TCM - dvds are being issued in fake letterbox. DONT ERASE your old tapes! I have four I got out of the library - ALL are fake letterbox: Iceman Cometh 1973, Mikey & Nicky, Warning Shot & Danger Diabolik. They call it "Enhanced for 16 X 9 screens" ......ENHANCED! cropping a movie is a Good Thing!... thats playing viewers for suckers alright.

TCM is not showing them in the proper aspect ratio. They are showing full screen cropped to simulate widescreen. Thats the problem. other pix TCM showed in fake letterbox: House on Haunted Hill, The Tingler, Shampoo, Phenix City Story... many others

fake letterbox: what it means... Ever see the ad on tcm where martin scorcese compares the "7 Brides" pan & scan to real letterbox? EVER see it? TCM is doing exactly that but the top & bottom rather than the sides. The motive behind fake letterbox: to make suckers out of viewers & to prevent copying of the actual movie. TCM loses its integrity by showing this crap. Cant you see THAT? You are too stupid to know the difference. Are you?

On the Waterfront is 35 mm full screen TCM shows fake letterbox. Sweet Smell of Success is 35 mm full screen TCM shows fake letterbox. There are so many it would take all day to name them. Separate Tables, Man in the Net...etc. Night Tide ... Mickey One , etc. There is no reason for TCM to ever show fake letterbox. Its an insult to subscribers. Its just freakin wrong. Its pure crap. TCM does not HAVE to show a movie. Unless a movie is presented properly, TCM can wait until it is presented properly. Nobody is twisting their arm to show fake letterbox. ignorance is not bliss ... except for some of you dreamers.

you're wrong. I have 100's of dvds I made myself better than tcm versions. These movies are obsolete. Nobody cares about them. Each day old people get older & the young people of today have no interest in this stuff. That is the reality. I bought a copy of NIGHT TIDE off sinister cimema much better than TCM's version. Because TCM has no quality controls. It shows fake letterbox with top & bottom of the picture removed for no good reason. What Is The Point of showing Cropped Movies? Night Tide is not important enough. Answer it! Why is TCM showing Fake Letterbox?

I have an MGM/UA vhs tape of Big Parade. There is nothing rare about it. I mean TCM shows dvds. For example NIGHT TIDE - when TCM showed it they included the FBI warning. some of the stuff on tcm is below vhs quality - blurry/fake letterbox. the only stuff of high quality are movies that are crap like father of the bride & other mgm romantic dreck. I can produce a dvd from my vhs collection of higher quality than TCM. How is that possible?

Somebody talked about it...how it was a nice print. Yes its a nice print. Monogram - owned by WB so technically TCM could show it BUT like I said about China's Little Devils, about Blockade, Blood on The Sun, The Men, Undercover Man, Among the Living, Try & Get Me, Underworld Story, DECOY was written by Ned Young a blacklisted writer so out of respect for the blacklist TCM will not show it.

Mayer was behind the plot to destroy Magnificent Ambersons. A govmint official was put up to officially request Orson Welles make a good will film outside the USA. As soon as he left, the studio was locked & MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS reshot & destroyed. Louis B. Mayer was behind the plot to destroy GHOST SHIP in which he saw himself as the ships captain. A phony plagiarism lawsuit was concocted & it was successful. GHOST SHIP was mothballed for 50 years. Louis B. Mayer was behind the plot to blacklist hollywood. He was successful.

I only watched two pix Mickey One & Parallax View. Both were blurry or rather out of focus. Mickey One was fake letterbox or rather cropped to simulate widescreen. There is no need to show these movies unless they are going to be shown properly = undoctored. There is nothing precious about these movies where they need protection from copying. TCM needs to rethink why they are showing movies of a special night blurry! Its an insult to subscribers.

I get to say what I want & you can say what you want. just so you can go bother other people. I pay $17 a month to get tcm so that entitles me to an opinion. I just happen to know what I'm talking about. get an education about movies & come on back. my big toe forgot more about movies than you'll ever know.

Garbo sucks cuz all her movies are MGM. MGM movies are dreck because they had bad writers & the movies have no interesting elements. Except Joyless Street which is a masterpiece.
I didn't mention the blacklist so there is no need to personally attack me about it. I don't like these "Star Days" where they play 7-8 movies in a row. I prefer a balanced schedule. There is no question AMC was better. Wanna know something? AMC had blacklist festivals! I'd fall on the floor if TCM ever had one.

TCM don't give away squat. either its fake letterbox or its time compressed. in addition TCM often shows beat versions of movies when good quality versions exist. Like FOOLISH WIVES TCM showed a bad quality 110 min. version when Image has a 143 min. print... TCM showed a bad version of Joyless Street & now that a 150 min. version is around TCM is not interested. TCM is becoming gutless - its an ok channel full of bad MGM dreck. But AMC was much better & analog too. Digital sucks.
