The Eisenhower Tunnel, Rocky Mountains, I-70 west of Denver at an elevation just over 11,000 feet. Longest mountain tunnel in the I-70 system. Better have good brakes going down her. Jake in the Heartland

Hi Star, I've been over it many a time. How did they do it? American exceptional abilities.. Yep, we have the finest men and women on this planet who are capable of unleashing their creative spirits and creating works of wonder. I spent a lot of my youth in New Orleans and lived in a middle-class neighborhood in a home that had pilings driven into the ground below the foundation to ensure it did not sink. The only home I ever lived in with that situation. May you have a great evening and remaining week. Jake

Hey, there Ham, I'm glad you brought the flag up. Did ya know there were about 5000 men who fought for the South from the state of Ohio? Did ya know there is a Sons of Confederate Veterans Chapter in the state of Ohio? By the way, I love the people of Ohio. Jack Nicklaus is one of my heroes. Chirp...Chirp...Chirp... Ham, your post was insulting to people who live In West Va. I have been there and found the people gracious and welcoming to all people. Jake Holman the Heartland

Hi TomJH, Great thread. You might find this interesting. It has been my experience in talking to younger people than myself, especially young men, some know and like John Wayne. It's not very often they know of Gary Cooper. This poll reflects how well loved John Wayne still is in this country. By the way, I unabashedly love John Wayne's politics. Hi Tom, The Hanging Tree has many nuances in the movie. Doc Frail and his relationship with the other characters is not always picked up on by first time viewers -- myself included. The cinematography and general ambience of the movie is very underrated. It is beautiful. This is perhaps Delmer Dave's masterpiece and I know Karl Malden finished it up. All in all, for me, it's the epitome of Coop's persona. Have a great weekend. Jake Holman in the Heartland

*His appearance is about the same as that in The Hanging Tree, I'd say.* Saw 'em both and I don't agree with ya. He looked great in The Hanging Tree and one of his best Westerns and one I personally consider his best. Kickin' Frenchy off that cliff was pure and true kick tail Coop. Jake Holman in the Heartland

True, both were great. Really great and a time that is long gone in America, regrettably. Jake Holman in the Heartland

You gotta remember Coop's movies were played on TV after his death and I know because I watched 'em. Jake Holman in the Heartland

Two: Steve McQueen Papillon: was not even nominated. The Sand Pebbles: there's no doubt McQueen could act and the people loved him. Jake Holman in the Heartland
