  1. Star, You're welcome. Your sister lives in a city many would love to live. The River Walk is indeed a beautiful locale and one I highly recommend. The people are friendly and gracious. Texans get a bad rap. Texans want people around them, regardless of their circumstances, race or religion, to think big and go for it. That, in my book, ain't all bad. Jake

  4. You do know about all the jokes and sayings about Okies don't you? Personally, I never took part in that practice. By the way, Oklahoma has hard working and God fearing citizens. I love 'em. And the state has produced a ton of Miss Americas. Good genes... Jake in the Heartland

  7. Good stuff. Zep is known as a hard rock band but they did blues and other things, too. The mark of a great band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TechHc8GK_Y Jake

  10. Eugenia post here anytime you like with news like that and any clips you want to share. Jake
  11. Hi Wendy, I thought I'd just play 'em instead of list them. The Beatles made so many great songs it's really hard to find some I don't like. Really, just a handful and my favorites could change daily. I did listen to your clip and it does have a rhtym and beat to it that could appeal to many. I can see why some younger listeners could relate and like it. I'll listen again but I don't think I'll ever be a fan. Thanks for posting it, though. Your friend, Jake

  13. Star, You're welcome. I lived in Shreveport and it has some old beautiful homes and historic sites with a rich history. Jake in the Heartland
  14. Joanne Woodward was born in Thomasville, Ga. and was a beauty queen winner as a young woman. She was more than capable in turning a red-blooded male's head when she walked by. Her roles, in general, did not reflect that but her beauty is true. Jake in the Heartland.
  15. Hi Euginia, I won't be something I'm not. I'm not a fan of the Band. Frankly, never really listened to them. My music taste pretty much stops at the mid eighties. But I'm glad you posted it because the band has been inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. I'm sorry about his death. He was a young man. Tell ya what: if you wanna post some of his music go ahead. By the way, try to listen to the Beatles a little more. They are the Sheakspeare of Rock and Roll and truly the greatest Rock and Roll band of all time. Jake

  19. You won't hear Stop but you will hear the morse code. One reason I participated here is I actually did this and kinda like reading and talking about it. It's a lost art form and obsolete other than a few Ham Operators who still use it. I actually communicated with others doing this. I like the thread. Fred and I are like oil and water but he's OK here. Jake in the Heartland http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39CNF0mzuLA
  20. I've bought several from them and have been very pleased. The price is reasonable and the product excellent. Pay a little more but I consider it a bargain and I dislike standing in line in stores asking clerks questions who don't have a clue. Jake in the Heartland
  21. Fair Grounds, New Orleans, La. One of the oldest tracks in the country. Some sources say the oldest. Risen Star was a great horse produced by this track. He was the son of Secretariat and he won two of the three legs of the Triple Crown. He would have won the Kentucky Derby had he not had a bad ride from the jockey. But they made up for it from then on. Jake in the Heartland http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhqFUQtaWkI

  23. *One of the reasons I chose to visit Savannah was because of its reputation for heritage preservation, for its beautiful old buildings and its pride in and respect for its history. I believe there are laws and policies the city has thoughtfully legislated over the years to prevent the kind of disregard for architectural history that is currently running rampant in Toronto.* Ditto! You and many others. Canada is beautiful with a rich history. Flannery O'Connor's works are classics with a deep and lasting meaning once you understand the metaphors and symbols she uses to convey her message. We love her down South and I am a Southern Baptist.. Jake
