  1. I vote Republican (the alternative is a no go) but there are two Republicans I truly admire: Barry Goldwater and The Great Man Ronald Reagan. After all, the Republican Party is the party of Lincoln... Jake in the Heartland
  2. I'm no expert on Capra but I've read in the past he was a Republican? Jake in the Heartland
  3. Ya wanna talk to me about Goldwater's defense of the South and its right of association in 1964? He only won Southern states and LBJ won the rest. I own and have read a Conscience of a Conservative by Mr. Goldwater and I am familiar with his views and his later life. I don't use wiki as a reference. Have a great evening. Jake in the Heartland
  4. John Ford supported Barry Goldwater... Jake in the Heartland
  5. *I don't know how I feel about TITANIC* . *Can we say that it holds up fifteen years later? Probably not.* At least you are honest: how you *feel.* Fifteen years is a long time. Probably not could just as easily be probably so. Jake in the Heartland
  6. Golly, gee, I love Titanic 1997... Jake in the Heartalnd
  7. I'm a red-blooded Southern Male is gonna be watchin' some football and my only regret is Drew Brees and the Saints are not in the Big Game. By the way, Canadians play and love football, too. The CFL and the Grey Cup is a Canadian tradition with many American players going and playing in its league or coming to the NFL. Great Football. Jake in the Heartland
  8. Glad you liked it Wendy, That's a time frame when Dolly was just starting out. She's gone a long way. Can't say I like everything she does but most of it. You take care and have great year. Incredible String Band Jake
  9. Patton. As a side note: in real life, General Patton studied all leading military generals in his youth. He especially liked studying battles during The War Between the States. Grant, Sherman and Thomas were studied. But his favorites were General Robert E. Lee and Lt. Gen.Stonewall Jackson. He used many of their strategies and tactics in his conquest of the Nazis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kh9S1Hk975U Jake in the Heartland
  10. He will always be remembered, too for his portrayal as the main antagonist (Wesley) to Patrick Swayze (Dalton) in the cult classic Road House. AMC features the movie from time-to-time. RIP Jake in the Heartland

    Shane

Well, James, violence has solved many a problem. It's in the Bible or your favorite History book. And I think it's a good bet those problems will continue and violence will solve many of them. The Beatles were wonderful poets but not always realists but I think they might have been a little more realistic than many think. Jake in the Heartland

    Shane

Shane is unquestionably my favorite Western. There are many nuances or plots and subplots to this timeless movie. But there is one thing that stands out and is still applicable today: Violence. In the end, violence solved the problem. Jake in the Heartland

  18. What's this antipathy to AMC? They have been long gone with a different business model than TCM. I like to go over and watch AMC from time-to-time. I know I am not one of those pseudo intellectuals who would never be caught there watching anything from that channel. Betcha you do though? In the past, I watched Patton and The Searchers on their channel when no one else showed it. Oh, but with commercials. Right now, AMC is highlighting Steven Seagal and I love it. Love to see him kick some butt and take names. Jake in the Heartland
  19. Bill Phillips...classic country... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEHtP9RHE18 Jake in the Heartland
  20. Joey Heatherton I like Bimbos. It keeps things uncomplicated and simple for a man and his needs. Jake in the Heartland
  21. "I work all day to get you money to buy you things." Been there and done that and loved it. Jake in the Heartland
  22. Delmer Dave's classic: The Hanging Tree. Dave's was a precise and insightful director who I believe is highly underrated. He made some great ones. Coop in this movie shows a little of a dark side. This is one of the greatest Westerns ever made. Yes, I know it's my opinion but a good one. Jake in the Heartland P.S. This is one of those bootlegs I bought but it's not out on DVD. The copy I have is OK and will work. Got the movie from Amazon who sponsored the seller.
  23. You're spot on movieman1957. That's why they are the Beatles. A Hard Day's Night ain't no slouch either. Time comes and goes but we can say we lived and listened to the Beatles. Jake
