  6. Good morning JF and MM1957, Great stuff -- liked 'em both. By the way, run with this thread any way you like. Post on it whether I'm posting or not. Have a great day. Jake
  7. Virginians! We'll stay! Who will come with me? Brig. Gen Lewis Armistead - Gettysburg As a side note, Armistead and his troopers actually did pierce the Union line during Pickett's Charge but he was fatally wounded shortly thereafter. It is considered the High Water Mark of the Confederacy and there is a marker today at the Gettysburg Battlefield honoring him where he went down on that fateful day. Jake in the Heartland
  8. Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM! Alba gu br?th! Braveheart Jake in the Heartland
  9. Hi JF, Hope you got enough to eat. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving feast and time. George Harrison played a precise and innovative style with his guitar and, at times, could let a powerful riff flow. There were some on the board I was discussing him who pointed out he had extremely long fingers which allowed him to easily manipulate a guitar. Some claimed he hit notes that were unheard of. And, surprising to what many think, he owned Clapton and not the other way around. By the way, I will not be posting here on a daily basis going forward. It's been fun for the past two years but I'm going to let up on the posting. I'll post from time-to-time but not every day. Your friend Jake http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQ63HUiPyL4
  10. Colour Sergeant Bourne: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The Lord of Hosts is with us. Cpl. William Allen: I hope so. As I live and die, I hope so. Zulu Jake in the Heartland
  11. Hydarnes, Commander of the Immortals: Yesterday, we only probed your positions. When we attack today, our arrows will blot out the sun! Leonidas, Spartan King: Good; then we will fight in the shade. The 300 Spartans Jake in the Heartland
  12. > {quote:title=movieman1957 wrote:}{quote}Great song. I always loved the sound of the guitar solo in the middle. I like it, too. The other day, I spent some time on another board and the RS list was discussed. Many, like me, some very knowledgeable, believe George Harrison is the most under-rated guitarist. I'd have him as number five in my top 10 and others pointed out his influence on many who are considered better than him. His precision, power and innovation is slowly beginning to be acknowledged and as time goes on his stature will be much higher than it is today. He is number eleven on the RS top 100..He's much better. Jake...
  13. Republic. I like the sound of the word. It means people can live free, talk free, go or come, buy or sell, be drunk or sober, however they choose. Some words give you a feeling. Republic is one of those words that makes me tight in the throat - the same tightness a man gets when his baby takes his first step or his first baby shaves and makes his first sound as a man. Some words can give you a feeling that makes your heart warm. Republic is one of those words. The Alamo Jake in the Heartland
  14. Just as we would not send any of our soldiers to march in other states, and tyrannize other people. So will we never allow the armies of others to march into our states and tyrannize our people. Lt. Gen. Stonewall Jackson - Gods and Generals As a side note, Stonewall's horse, Little Sorrel, was the horse the great Stonewall was on in every major battle. Little Sorrel was never hit or injured - a truly amazing feat and horse. Stonewall was on him when Stonewall was accidentally shot by a fellow Confederate at the Battle of Chancellorsville which resulted in his death. Jake in the Heartland...

  18. *Anyway its Elaine Stewart all the way and I'll brook no disagreement.* From what I could gather she was a beautiful woman. Was she a natural redhead? Rita Hayworth was not? I just disagreed with you. Now what? B-)

  20. Rolling Stone just released its top 100 greatest guitarist picks. It's a very subjective list and RS is a very slanted or political organization. Here's their top 10: 1 Jimi Hendrix 2 Eric Clapton 3 Jimmy Page 4 Keith Richards 5 Jeff Beck 6 B.B. King 7 Chuck Berry 8 Eddie Van Halen 9 Duane Allman 10 Pete Townsend I got some problems with the top 10 but one of my favorites is not even in the top 100: Ted Nugent. Politics as usual... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN2VNFpiGWo Jake in the Heartland Edited by: JakeHolman on Nov 25, 2011 10:32 AM

  22. Good morning JF, Hope all is well and that you have a great Thanksgiving and Holiday season. I know the women in my clan have quite a turkey dinner being prepared for us. It will be hard not to put on a few pounds. Glad you liked the tunes and the Marshall Crenshaw is a good one. Almost picked that one myself but stuck with my cynical girl pick. You take care. Jake
