  1. Ah, Ava was mysterious and sultry. But there is only one, imho, who is of the earth and has a beauty to leave men weak: the incomparable Red Head Maureen O'Hara. Now, that's a woman.... And a beautiful one at that....
  2. Virginia writes..."Please don't get mad at me for posting this. PLEASE. I mean harm to NO ONE." I am not mad at all. You have my unequivocal pledge to be civil and polite while on this board. BUT, when a poster comes on this board and tells me to shut up, as was done last night, all bets are off. And, keep in mind, my remarks were not directed at that poster at all. I will strike back...
  3. cinemajestic writes..."but not so sure on the most beautiful ever to grace the screen. Any thoughts." Ah, my thoughts... 1. Rita Hayworth 2. Susan Hayward 3. Patricia Neal 4. Jean Simmons 5. Marilyn Monroe 6. Elizabeth Taylor 7. Lana Turner 8. Maureen O'hara 9. Deborah Kerr What more could a man ask for? Message was edited by: JakeHolman Message was edited by: JakeHolman
  4. I love Ray,,, This a wonderful film... It's Steve McQueen's best performance... I believe it to be one of the most overlooked films of all time... It can be, at times, a little long.... But all in all, a great, great film with wonderful scenery...
  5. Gotcha....my mistake...interesting quotes non the less....
  6. Bonnie writes..."I find Lawrence of Arabia impossible to sit through, even without the other two films. " This is considered to be one the best films ever made... Please, dear Bonnie, what do you consider to be a great film?
  7. CineMaven writes.."And Lawrence of Arabia's gluteus was certainly maximused, wasn't it by the Turkish devil." I would not know? How would you? Hmmmmm....
  8. "I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk? "
  9. Nope, if you want to see a right wing sight, go to Human Events...there, I do some very serious debating... There's been a heck of a battle amongst Republicans... Some quick and sharp minds over there... I'm one of them...
  10. I apologize to TCM or any other members I may have offended. I truly do... But there is a certain individual who comes here and slings insults at members with impunity. Yesterday, he ridiculed my religion and faith. I cannot sit back like a weak little lamb and not respond. If TCM deems I should be banned, then so be it...

  12. Ava writes...".....GOD willing if maybe enuff ppl speak out TCM will not turn into AMC and will stick to the classics meaning the 30s 40s 50s 60s some 70s thats it..no 80s 90s..its just for real classic fans like me this is the ONLY channel we have to truly keep the classics alive..for all u others who want to see 80s movies ect..theres AMC they do that all day." So true... I had some fun yesterday with the term "family oriented" network and received some derisive remarks... That's ok...I'm a big boy... Ava, is right though... When you ask the average person what they can watch on TCM, he/she will tell you he/she can see great old movies with a G rating. As someone who knows a little bit about marketing and sales, I can tell you TCM has an awesome brand for great old movies that are wholesome and meaningful. If they continue to go the route of other networks, they will, imho, lose their brand and become a commodity like all the other outlets: I can get this anywhere mentality. Thanks Ava...
  13. "Fredo, you?re my older brother, and I love you. But don?t ever take sides with anyone against the family again. Ever? Michael ?Godfather? Corleone. " "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good." Wall Street. "Shane. Shane. Come back!" Shane
  14. Wow, Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia and Bridge Over The River Kwai. All, one right after the other. Now that's film making. This conservative Republican loves it....
  15. Thanks for the welcome Fred... By the way, so there is no confusion going forward, I am a proud right-wing conservative in the Ronald Reagan tradition.. Have a great weekend...
  16. Prince writes..."I have never considered TCM a "family-oriented channel". Well, when I use the term family-oriented, it means movies made with taste and class. That does not mean they are inane and have no adult or complex themes to them. They are not vulgar... Perfect example: Rebel Without a Cause is an anti-establishment movie done with class. There is no nudity or in your face vulgarity. I don't get how someone calls a movie great when all it does is to attempt to shock or insult your sensibilities...
  17. "Jake You must be a relatively new viewer to TCM. I say this because of the movies cited from the IMDB source you supplied, Raging Bull and Network both played in February as part of 31 Days of Oscar and Midnight Cowboy and Deer Hunter have both been aired since 1998 as well. I think both may have aired within the last three years actually." Not really... I've been watching TCM for years BUT most of my viewing tends to be on channels like the History Channel or Discovery Channel. I don't live by it. I just found out about this site and I do enjoy movies but TCM is far from being my favorite channel. I guess I'm behind the times. I really believed TCM to be a family oriented network. If it's showing movies like Midnight Cowboy, then it's like all the rest and, imo, has lost its uniqueness....
  18. Then I stand corrected. If Midnight Cowboy was shown and is shown in the future with no editing, then you do have a valid point. Midnight Cowboy is an R rated movie not appropriate, imho, for family viewing. In fact, it is worse than ZP and, if ZP is deemed to be a classic, which I don't think it should be, then by all means play it. Yep, and I have seen 'em both. You got me there and my viewing of TCM will be done with discretion in the future.
  19. Ah, here we go... ." Responding to complaints from viewers and movie critics that, by editing R-rated movies, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) has been tampering with their artistic integrity, the channel has decided to take those films off the air entirely. It said Tuesday that its edited versions of Deer Hunter, The (1978), Raging Bull (1980), Midnight Cowboy (1969) and Network will no longer be broadcast after Jan. 1. In an interview with today's (Wednesday) New York Post, Tom Karsch, TCM's general manager, conceded, "What we're doing is taking the heat off of ourselves by not showing these movies. If someone wants an R-rated product, there are plenty of pay services out there for them to get it" It is not only artistic integrity involved here. Many don't want to see TCM go the way of other networks by pushing the envelope a little too, far Source IMDB 14 OCT 1998. Message was edited by: JakeHolman
  20. Good for TCM. ZP has nudity, rolling in the sand naked, high on drugs and a MESSAGE. The scenery does have some merit along with the music. But I come to TCM for wholesome entertainment. Keep smut where it belongs.... I hope TCM keeps it clean for a long time or it will lose me as a viewer.
  21. King, I don't hold myself out as an "expert" regarding great films but, imho, ZP is a BAD movie. It's no classic. And yes there are objective standards we can go by to classify a great movie from a bad one. I don't like the movie Citizen Kane but it is a great movie.. Let's cut out the politically correct thought on great movies. Now, I DO believe movies are subjective and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But why would anyone think ZP should be classified as a classic? And, in my opinion, only classics should be shown on TCM. Respectfully, Jake
  22. I, for one, hope TCM sticks to high standards. No offense to anyone but this movie was a box office bomb and, to many who remember it, as I do, it was about counter culture nonsense. TCM can better serve its viewing audience...
  23. Thanks for the heads up about classicflix...but, sadly, I checked to see if it had The Warlord with Charlton Heston or Westward the Women with Robert Taylor...It had neither...Will stay with Netflix but might consider it down the road as a compliment...
  24. Paul Newman won his first Oscar for his performance in the Color of Money...that performance, imho, was ordinary. He was much better in Cool Hand Luke... But... He really deserved the Oscar for his performance in the movie The Verdict...awesome performance and so unlike most of his other roles...that's the irony...
  25. Thank you MissGoddess...Yep, The Hanging Tree, imho, is one the best westerns ever made. And it's one of the most overlooked westerns, too.... I wish I could buy it on DVD. I would snap one up. Also, Karl Malden gave an awesome performance as a slimy villain... Just found out about this site and I do love old movies so you will hear from me from time to time. Have a great day...
