>(I'm partial to Derek Jeter.)
I don't think you are the only one. Derek is a Hall of Famer who is Mr Clutch with men on base.
One of the greatest Yankees ever...
My idol as a little boy: Mickey Mantle.
Thank You cinemafan for the wonderful clips. The LA Angels are tough and could have won the first two playoff games. We still have a tough series in front of us.

>Wikipedia a left-leaning source? Translated from the wingnutese, that means it's a source that
>can't be refuted so they'll just call it left-leaning as if that makes their false case. The Wikipedia
>article on Columbus has 57 footnotes, 13 book references, and 10 external links. Why
>don't you try to refute that on the basis of fact, not on the irrelevant charge of being "left
>wing." That dog won't hunt.
Oh, that dog is gonna hunt and run your little tail up the tree yippin' and yappin' the whole way.
Yep, it is a liberal source no doubt about it. Do your google and yahoo thing and that might help you.
All those footnotes by whom? Who put them there" Who are the researchers? Have they been vetted?
You did not even bother to weigh in on that little paragraph in the wikipedia source that briefly describes the concerns of the Indians and genocide. That's your case? It is not even twenty lines long--much less.
>Why don't you cite some brief, or even not so brief, accounts that refute the facts about Columbus' horrid treatment of the natives he encountered. Reliable accounts, not the old fairytale ones that have been around for so long, and have been shown to be untrue.
Well, I am gonna do just that. Unlike you, I will make a stand and boldly post something other than
a shoddy wikipedia that most University professors would fail you for using on a term paper.
But what the heck...
http://www.osia.org/public/pdf/Columbus05_factvsfiction.pdf
>The fact that Columbus sailed to the Caribbean and set in place the Spanish killing machinery >is not in doubt, and in its way, it is a very important part of history. The fact that Columbus was
>a famous explorer in no way contradicts the fact he was a mini-genocidist.
See the above...
>I don't feel guilt, because Chris the Killer never set foot on American soil. Sly old Columbus
>kept two sets of logs on his first voyage, so that the crew wouldn't know what was what. Maybe
>that's why Tony and his crew were so upset about the Columbus Day protests. He is a
>natural hero for the Sopranos, as they would be for him.
That's an insult to every Italian American on this board. Be careful because you might run into one who will make you an offer you can't refuse.
>The bottom line is that the old Columbus myth that was taught for so long in the public schools
>is gone with the wind, as we now know the ugly side of the Columbus story, which was really
>known for quite some time, but that truth wouldn't look good. The "discoverer" of "America" a
>common criminal? That surely wouldn't go down very well. The sources and references are
>there. Anyone can check them out, but you'll have to let go of your illusions. That's life.
The discover of America is one of the greatest figures in recorded history. True he was a man with some flaws as all men. But a man like you only knows a limited life...and that's life, too...

>Wikipedia is a fine reference source, with footnotes and articles and books listed
>for further investigation.
Hardly, wikepedia is known to be a left-leaning source...that means liberal...
>People who cannot refute the actual facts about
>Columbus try to impugn the sources, but the sources are solid and cannot be
>refuted factually. No serious historian doubts the havoc that Columbus caused by his actions.
Again, hardly, there are other accounts that refute what you state. It is incumbent upon you to provide your sources with actual references that would probably be Ward Churchill and others like him.
>If people want to be proud of the fact that Columbus and his crew exploited, enslaved, raped, and murdered the native inhabitants, that's their problem, not mine.
It's time to acknowledge the progress that was accomplished by Columbus and his heroic journey to bring advancement and knowledge to the West.
As what is done at the History Channel Board: it is incumbent upon you to provide the actual references you site and let the rest of us judge if they are truly objective and scholarly.
If all you can do is site the slavery issue, which many other societies did at that time, then you are not refuting the grand importance of Christopher Columbus.
And as another poster stated earlier: are you prepared to give away all your assets to the Indians at this time for the guilt you feel?

HI RainingViolets101,
You should be proud of Christopher Columbus and celebrate his holiday just as other countries do.
No, I'm afraid, the attack on Christopher Columbus is an attack on Christianity and the Catholic church which so many Italians worship.
God Bless Christianity and its role in Western civilization. You hold your head high and always be proud of your traditions.
And, remember, references about Christopher Columbus from sources using wikipedia from google and yahoo are not, I repeat, are not, scholarly nor to be given very much weight.
God Bless and have a wonderful day...

The little toad sineast comes forward and attacks a teenage girl for her stand on Columbus and, yet, on his own thread, he states he loves Cat Stevens and his conversion to the Muslim faith.
Muhammad and his followers are not known for their kindness to women and the faith certainly has an exemplary history regarding slavery, too...
I don't need to write an entire page to question your hypocrisy...

>In fourteen hundred ninety two
>Columbus sailed the ocean blue
>and proved the world was round~
>HAPPY COLUMBUS DAY!
You are absolutely right. Hang in there and don't give much weight to the French pirate Leefeet's account. His account is nothing new and not official as recorded history.
Have a great day...
