Right...
Judah Benjamin turned downed a nomination to the Supreme Court. He was known to be the best orator on the Senate floor while he was a Senator from the State of Louisiana and his penmanship was also excellent. In the final analysis, he was a brilliant man.
For those who enjoy reading about the Civil War, as I do, Robert Rosen has written a book titled The Jewish Confederates. It gives one a perspective on the Jewish participation in Old Dixie during the Civil War.

Jf,
I must admit I don't remember XTC but from what I have heard, they might be interesting to listen to some more...
By the way, since I've been doing this, I've found myself buying some bargains at Amazon.
I just bought an album from the The Romantics called The Romantics, used, in very good shape, we will see, for less than seven dollars.
I really like that band...
Here's one I know you like and so do I...

>Jake Holman, you sir are clearly misinformed. Trying to put 20th/21st century values and morals upon 18th century codes is ludicrous! Lincoln was MUCH smarter than you amd many others and understood that THE COUNTRY NEEDED TO BE BROUGHT ALONG SLOWLY TO EVENTUALLY REJECT THE "PECULIAR INSTITUTION" OF SLAVERY! Quit being a revisionist and leave History to those who know what they're talking about.,
Surely, you can do better than that? That's a schoolboy's reply...
Oh, well, I will work with what I have....
So, by your logic, and others here, we should judge Abe's actions within the context of the times he lived and be understanding to him.
Ok, I will buy that logic but I wonder if you would be willing to be just as charitable to the men on the other side of The War For Southern Independence who lived during that same time?
Those men being Jefferson Davis, Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson and Judah Benjamin.
Judah Benjamin, by the way, was a Jew who was called the Brains of The Confederacy.
I think I know the answer and that would be no because to the victor goes the spoils and the writing of history...
Have a good evening...

>-Skip McCoy wrote: "except that lincoln and 99% of white men who lived in US at that time were indeed racist." - You CLEARLY are not a student of history and the Civil War!!! I am. Here are a few of Lincolns words from his 2nd inaugaration speech: "...
I hate to be the one to shatter your illusions about honest Abe but I am afraid there are plenty of documented references about Mr Lincoln and his utterances about the black race.
The Lincoln cult lives to perpetuate the great lie that honest Abe was an emancipator when nothing could be further from the truth...

" I'm a lawman. Do you know what a lawman is, Crowe? He's a killer of men. That's what the job calls for. There are new ways to put it, but it reads the same. That's the difference between us, and it's all the difference I need."
