It was written by Alan LaMay, whose other novel is "The Seachers",which I consider one of the great films ever made even if there is a big change from the book, but that's why they make more then one flavor of ice cream.Everyone has different taste...

I really like Burt Lancaster in Westerns and I don't think he is given enough credit for how really good he is in that genre.
